Saturday Open Thread - 2/7/26: Odds and Ends

Good morning, good people! You know I constantly bitch about police overstepping their constitutional bounds. You may remember me ranting and raving about kill switches in cars.
Citizens have no reason to be watched until there is some reason to be watched. A kill switch is instant detention.
And, then, there is this, from Splendora, Texas:
Splendora is near me. The interstate where this video was made is a stretch I occasionally drive. Interstate 59/69.
Speeding is a ticket type offense. Anything else is an arrest offense, such as weaving, no tags, no tail light, illegally tinted windows, no seat belt, etc...
Cops must have high school diplomas or GEDs, and go through a few weeks of training.
So, they can disable a fast moving vehicle, endanger anyone in the vehicle, cause a major pile up on one of the busiest Interstates in the country, because it is just really cool! The danger shown in the video is my proof that this disabling of vehicles by high schoolers will kill folks.
I saw Elvis at a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. My late husband met him at a bar in Houston back in the early 70s when people might not have asked for his autograph.
Kings are in the memes, so he is showing up often.

Good morning, good friends!
I raised coon hounds for 15 years. If I said this to you, it would be a compliment!

Hey, good morning
.
Looks like a rodeo maneuver these cops are using is
similar to a lasso gesture. Seems appropriate for Texas.
Ya' know, bunking broncos and the like.
Was never a big Elvis/pelvis fan. He commanded a big
stage presence for sure in the late 50's before the Brit
invasion hit the shores. Kinda faded after that. Another
temporary icon sensation. Seems America thrives on a
steady diet of those.
Thanks for the OT and enjoy your Saturday.

Good morning, Cap'n!
Elvis was making movies, making soundtrack albums, nothing innovative, during the British Invasion. His comeback tv special in December of 1968 put him back in the spotlight and singing more contemporary songs, such as "If I Can Dream", a tribute to MLK, Jr. Elvis was particularly affected by the assassination which occurred in his home town. I remember seeing him at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It was standing room only, the crowd going wild and screaming for encores.
No Elvis, no Rock and Roll. Thanks for everything, Elvis.
Enjoy your weekend, my friend!

Good morning...
Cool and sunny today, but warming up next week.
Trade day was nice except when the wind picked up. The crowd was thin, but I got a good buy on organic blackberries. Had a nice visit with several buddies as well.
Yesterday was spent cleaning up around the pond, mainly lopping small trees growing around the edge. I can still feel my back from leaning over and lopping this morning, but the walk around trade day helped.
Got the weeks grocery run in as well.
As to the police over reach, that's what happens when you use the IDF to train your officers.
Hope everyone has a good weekend, and thanks for the OT!
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Good morning, LO!
I foolishly lifted a heavy bag of ant poison and feel the effects 2 days later, so I understand all about lopping and sore backs to show for it!
We did our shopping yesterday, and at least 4 items we buy regularly were not to be found on the shelves. When I eat the occasional sandwich, I like to pair it with baked potato chips. I doubt the chips have any nutritional value, but baked beats the heck out of fried in unhealthy oils. You are lucky to find them at any store. Just like corn flakes. I doubt they are especially healthy, but they are still less unhealthy than frosted flakes. Seems all available breakfast cereals are heavily sweetened. I should just make the time and effort to cook oatmeal or cream of wheat and stop bitching, amirite?
I'm all shook up.
Enjoy your weekend, dear friend!

Mix rolled oats and water the night before and let it soak
overnight. A few seconds in the nuker to get it up to temp and you're good to go. You can also make a bowl of polenta in less than 5 minutes in the nuker.

Good ideas, el!
I guess I am lazy. Seems when I buy decent breakfast foods that require cooking, the week will fill up with early morning court, occasionally in another city.
I did make an executive decision to mentally accept eventually retiring: I now close the office on Fridays. I may have a rare court hearing, in fact, I have a zoom court hearing this coming Friday in a Harris County court, but I would say that on average, courts hold a docket on Friday maybe twice a year. For the Harris County case, I do not need to be in the office and I do not need a secretary.
In other words, I should be able to up the nutrition-anti.

Our area state rep, a gal named Michelle McGaw
.
with whom I helped launch her career into politics
many years ago is doing some good. She is with a
RI delegation in MSP to give emotional support.
The South Coast Voices for Democracy group (which I
have been developing) were able to get her to speak with
us at our weekly gathering. Maybe I was instrumental?
Anyway, it should be an interesting presentation. She says
people are raw inside due to the fed tactics being enacted.

Good on you, dude, thanks from all of us.

Morning OTC
Spent the last four days up on the farm fixing stuff. Had to roll back a 75 ft. section of garden fence and re sink all the posts. I had left the lone gate open a few weeks back and the deer got in and fed on the grasses. But one of them got freaked and tried to hop the fence (7 ft.) and got stuck on it. The neighbors said they had to come over and extricate it from the fence, successfully I might add. But it bent all the poles over and part of the fence was on the ground. No real harm done but a lot of work straitening everything up.
I'm leaving that section open for a while, just to bring in some fresh garden soil with the tractor and let the deer feed on the grasses.
Cool here in Vancouver and overcast. Will get some rain for a few days. But everything above freezing.
Thanks for the OT.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
Good afternoon, e1!
Man, that deer was lucky! Well, the fence...not so much.
My outer parameter fence is low enough that even baby deer can clear it.
Well, keeping up fencing and keeping the grass growing and properly mowed is damn hard labor, and a labor of love, ain't it? I can't think of a better escape from the woes of the world than to head to the farm or ranch, work up a sweat, get a blister, and enjoy the fruits of the labor.
This week a heard of 3 deer, all bucks, spent a couple of hours grazing. The next day, a herd of 3 does came to graze. Oddly, a large female red fox ran across the pasture, coming 20 ft. from the does, and they kept right on grazing. They didn't flinch.
Enjoy your weekend and accomplishments, my friend!

Good morning otc, farmer market today and a late start.
Some misc. ordinary shopping to add on top of it too. Then odds and ends all day.
Saw that car stopping gizmo deployed somewhere else a while back and it pulled the axle off of the frame of whatever clunker they used it on. As you say, high school kids with dangerous toys.

It is such a deadly
little gadget, el. The interstate is always heavy with traffic. The car in the video drove off to the right to a feeder road. What if it had veered hard left into oncoming, heavy traffic, 4 lane hwy? The speed limit there is 75 mph!

Good morning
Good to see another hound person here! I kept one or more hounds around me most of my life. Plots, Redbones, Blueticks, Red ticks, Black and Tans, Walkers, loved em all but will always have a softspot for Redbones. Gave it all up when the hills around here turned into mountains. Not a hound on the place now. No matter, the countryside is all cut up and filled with people since then so no safe place to turn loose now anyway. Kind of sad, these hills rang with hound music for a hundred years or so but the newcomers here will never hear it.
Guess our cold spell is over, for now anyway. Might even be able to unplug the well-house heat lamp for a few days.
Have a good one!
All I want is the truth. Just give me some truth. John Lennon
Good afternoon, burnt out!
Nothing beats a hound. Nothing. I had blue and red ticks, lemon spot, and one blood hound, one Basset hound, and a beagle. The red tick I raised from 2 weeks old, bottle feeding him day and night, was my favorite. No matter what you do to pen up a beagle, forget it. They dig or climb out of every kind of fence and you either put them in a kennel or expect them to roam at will.
It seems like people around here have gone to designer pet dogs. I haven't seen a hound in decades, other than blood hounds used by the police.
When I am feeling nostalgic, I surf the nets to find videos of hounds baying. Whereas I hear neighbors yapping dogs, which irritates the hell out of me, the sound of a hound relaxes me, and will lull me to sleep as if they were singing to me.
I have seen lots of houses and subdivisions pop up, so turning a hound loose would be unsafe here, much like what you have experienced.
Well, at least we have our memories, friend.
Enjoy your weekend!

In our new and “improved”
post-constitutional world, all are guilty until proven innocent, and the routine use of deadly force has been tacitly approved. Don’t you feel safer? After all, as they have always said, “If you aren’t guilty of anything, you have nothing to worry about”.
Meanwhile, no doubt Our Betters are working on new laws stating something on the order of “That which is not prohibited is now mandatory“, which will have the apparently-desirable effect of making everyone guilty of something. We hope that that does not cause any inconvenience…
Not, as they say, a fan.
Twice bitten, permanently shy.
Good afternoon, ufs!
What happened to the presumption of innocence? The 4th and 5th Amendment rights are all but gone, and it does appear Democrats wish to whack away at the 2nd Am. You can hear pundits and politicians from all over the globe what makes the US the toughest country to be forced into some New World Order by the globalists, and they will tell you it is because our population is armed.
We were told cameras would be used to catch speeders. If so, why do we need this dangerous gadget? It might make a person think the cameras are for some other purpose. To track our movement? Mileage?
Well, let's just trust our government, shall we? Lol!
Enjoy your weekend, friend!

Afternoon - starting to notice a trend
many C99 members have mentioned living with in the past or currently very smart breeds of dogs. My hound experience has been a beagle I spotted running down the middle of a highway far from dwellings, she jumped into my arms when I stopped to check on it. Multiple inquiries never identified a previous owner.
Is Colony Ridge the land development you have previously mentioned when I previously wrote about local homeless encampments? Just sitting down to watch. First 4 minutes mention development. Sorry it is a link to Alex Jones, but his team is often reporting in issues which will not show up in other parts of the media for quite some time or never.
Interview Gubernatorial Candidate, (Doc) Pete Chambers and Colony Ridge (1 hour X video)
Still yourself, deep water can absorb many disturbances with minimal reaction.
--When the opening appears release yourself.
That is it.
It is so dangerous, police will not patrol it.
The developer runs a scam to finance homes to illegals who have no job, credit, bank account, etc.... It is all crooked, but he heavily funds Abbott, so it's all good.
These immigrants are not here to seek citizenship or to have a safer, more secure life. They are cartel. The drug trade is like it has never been in my life. All the nearby public schools keep a medicine in their bathrooms for kids to take if they overdose on fentanyl.
All the locals tell stories about a crew of landscapers, house painters, tree removers, etc...showing up to work wearing masks, having machete's strapped to their belts, and leaving strange markers behind after the work project is done. The markers indicate the location is good for making a drug deal at the work location. (A tree removal service from the Colony Ridge area left 2 tee posts in my yard, wired together to form a cross. We dug it up immediately.) We network to keep each other notified on what businesses to avoid.
My beagle was picked up at a convenience store parking lot. The store owner rushed up to me, begged me to take the dog before it was run over. He hopped into my truck, and was a great pet for years. He was an escape artist.
Don't apologize for linking to Alex Jones. I check out right wing sites daily. It is easy to ignore the bias, and they tend to report current news much more quickly than left wing sites. Righties have their reasons for reporting, I have my reasons for receiving it.
Well, people can have their chiweenies, I'll take the coon hound!
Enjoy your day and thanks for the link, friend!

Does anybody remember
.
A commercial with I think Jerry Seinfeld filling
his gas tank and saying "Let loose the hounds"?
Had to have been about 15 years ago as I shot
the TV around then. No clue what he was selling.
Just remember the line.
Zionism is a social disease
Can anyone explain (in simple terms)
.
why Japan is holding snap elections with
their new prime minister and why there is so
much drama involved? I hardly care about Japan
and their intrigues, but I know the US considers
them as a vassal, set-up to do their bidding in east
Asia (against China). Taiwan has already bought the
American scheme. Beyond that, south Korea has
vacillated from the script imposed on them. Seems
to be all tied in together, but the reports don't add-up
in any logical fashion.
Zionism is a social disease
Well, we have almost survived another blizzard
.
The snow is piling-up. The winds are blowing it about.
At minus 10 degrees and dropping. The house is creaking
but still standing. (Flexing a bit). Feeding the wood stove
and planning a Sunday 'super bowl' dinner. Keep the kitchen
warm and nourish for the inevitable dig-out tomorrow.
Oh joys!
