Happy New Year.
The discussions this week regarding AI has been interesting. One of the angles not discussed yet is the point of view of a person being replaced by A.I. generated products.
How political analysis became a target of A.I. fakes Pepe Escobar, Strategic Culture Foundation Dec 29, 2025
A.I. in many aspects is the antithesis of civitas. Prior to the A.I. boom, several layers of the internet had already been distorted into a series of minefields across a large-than-life sewer. A.I. – as controlled by Big Tech – in many aspects had already revealed itself as a fraud. Now it’s a weapon.
There are several channels on YouTube manipulated by A.I., stealing the image and voice by some of us, independent political analysts. A not-extensive list includes as targets John Mearsheimer, Larry Johnson, Richard Wolff, Glenn Diesen, Yanis Varoufakis, economist Paulo Nogueira Batista and myself.
It’s not an accident that all of us are independent geopolitical and geoeconomic analysts, mostly know each other personally, and are guests in roughly the same podcasts.
...
In all cases, as far as we, the targets are concerned, all these channels are fake. I repeat: all these channels are fake. They may at least in some cases be set up by “fans” – certainly with an eye for profit via monetization.Or the whole scam may be part of something way more sinister: a strategy bent of loss of credibility. As in an operation by the usual suspects to sow confusion amongst the – large – audience of several independent thinkers.
Are we seeing the beginning of expanded recognition of working with nature or regulatory capture of the movement? Actually I am hopeful of the trend.
Regenerative Agriculture Finally Has A Seat At The Table At USDA ZeroHedge Dec 29, 2025
During an Uber ride, I received a message from Calley Means, a White House adviser to Secretary Kennedy and a leader within the MAHA movement. “Check your email,” she wrote.
Inside was a preview of a regenerative agriculture framework scheduled for release in the coming weeks.
Over the last year, Means and I have exchanged ideas on how USDA and HHS could work together to encourage soil-health adoption among conventional growers. Those discussions, across meetings, memos, and policy proposals, kept circling back to a principle long championed by Gabe Brown. Incentives only work when they reward real results.
That principle is embedded in this new USDA pilot, and it marks a clear departure from past conservation programs.
Among its distinguishing features:
It explicitly uses the term “Regenerative Agriculture.”
It relies on a single, streamlined application rather than fragmented enrollment.
It allows bundled conservation practices under a whole-farm plan.
It supports multi-year transitions, not short-term experiments.
It establishes baseline soil testing.
It reflects cross-agency coordination beyond a siloed conservation effort.
Continued funding is tied to demonstrated improvements. The pilot reflects a growing recognition that regenerative agriculture sits at the intersection of farm economics, environmental stewardship, and public health. By helping cover the financial risk of transition, the program offers producers a way off the conventional input treadmill and toward systems that rebuild soil biology and long-term profitability.
This is a shift from paying farmers to comply with practices to paying them for outcomes. Those outcomes include better food, cleaner water, healthier soil and air, and ultimately healthier people.
...
From my vantage point, this represents a meaningful cultural shift. For the first time at this level, senior leaders across USDA and NRCS are openly engaging with soil health as a pathway to farmer profitability and nutrient-dense food. I have witnessed growing curiosity and seriousness within federal agencies about regenerative agriculture. That alone is significant.
Before the massive consolidation of pharmaceutical companies in the US and European the method of serendipity was a common method of drug discovery and development. Interestingly China pharmaceutical industry has embraced the methodology.
China’s beautiful biotech chaos vs West’s elegant paralysis Asia Times Dec 29, 2025
Recent analyses have documented what many in the pharmaceutical industry quietly suspected: China’s drug discovery output has achieved parity with the United States, tripling from roughly 30 new medicines in 2013 to over 400 a decade later.
This is remarkable not merely as an economic indicator, but as a live experiment testing competing theories of how breakthroughs actually happen.
The temptation is to treat this as a zero-sum contest between superpowers. Resist it. The more interesting question is what China’s “Cambrian explosion” in biotech reveals about innovation itself.
For decades, Western pharmaceutical development has operated on an engineering premise: identify biological targets, design molecules to hit them, refine through methodical iteration. This approach is intellectually elegant and scientifically rigorous.
...
China’s hypercompetitive biotech sector, fueled by government subsidies and a cultural bias toward speed, has inadvertently embraced an alternative logic: serendipity maximization. If breakthrough discoveries often emerge from unexpected findings rather than linear target-based design, then the optimal strategy may simply be taking more shots on goal. Chinese state-owned enterprises alone now contribute approximately 200 new experimental medicines annually—comparable to all European public and private entities combined.
...
The healthiest outcome is not victory for one model, but productive competition that forces both to improve—and occasional collaboration that neither ideology comfortably permits.
...
The real question facing both Beijing and Washington is whether their pharmaceutical enterprises serve patients—or merely serve as another arena for great-power rivalry. History suggests that when medicine becomes primarily a vehicle for national prestige, everyone loses.
Why do I have a bad feeling about this story? Are the Russians calling the US bluff of denying the drones were targeting Putin or any pre-knowledge of the event?
Decrypted Data From UAV Shot Down in Novgorod Region Handed Over to US Side Sputnik International Jan 1, 2026
Decrypted data from one of the Ukrainian drones that attacked Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence have been handed over to the US mission in Moscow, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.
...
The obtained data unequivocally confirm that the drones were on their way to attack Putin's residence, the head of the Russian General Staff's Main Intelligence Directorate, Igor Kostyukov, who delivered the files to the US Embassy, said.
"We believe that this step will remove all questions and will contribute to establishing the truth," Kostyukov added.

Good morning...
No hired help this Friday AM...taking the day off.
AI is fooling us with videos for sure. It becomes difficult to distinguish between a real person and AI. There's a new AI metals person on YT. Someone in the space said most of what the AI character says is true, but there's plenty on misinformation.
I can't embed it but here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynub76KRkYs (12 min)
The global silver market has officially fractured. As of January 1st, 2026, the financial world is waking up to a historic reality: the COMEX "zombie price" is frozen at $77, while physical silver is trading on the streets for over $128. The supply chain is broken, and the old financial system is entering its death throes.
In this episode of New Era Economics, we reveal the detailed chronicle of the first day of the collapse. This is not a forecast—these are the facts unfolding right now. From China’s "Silver Curtain" embargo to major force majeure declarations by giants like Glencore, we expose the 5 undeniable facts proving the silver squeeze is no longer a theory. It is here.
In this video, we cover:
Why the official exchange price is dead and decoupled from reality.
The massive "Force Majeure" notices sent by top commodity traders.

Reality and propaganda are more and more tied together. I expect more miseducation as we move forward.
Hope everyone's new year is off to a good start. Thanks for the OT!

Q when I was married to the pirate we set up a guided
fishing enterprise out of Ketchican in the Tongass National Forest. They were just getting things set up but we had to apply for licenses with several authorities including the Tongass. We received mailings from them for years afterwards.
Love the PNW coastal waters. We fished west Vancouver Island out of Bamfield for fifteen years. I was working my way up from telecom programming an AT&T Dimension switch ending up designing the fibre network for TSMC fab as my last project.
How does a pirate afford to roam the seas? Find a high tech wife. Hah. I'm a double Taurus and would never have been out at sea if it weren't for meeting a good boatsman and avid fisherman.
Happy New Year to you.

To you as well
had the opportunity to ply the passages above Seattle.
Not technically a pirate anymore, but the waters there
roiled with currents. Had to really stay on top of the wheel to
avoid being swept aside. That was on a 30 ton vessel mind you.
Remember the dolphins frolicking about with occasional whale
sightings. And the conifer forests sprouting above the rocky islands.
Very rich visual images. Stopping to absorb the beauty was not an option
at the time. Freeze frames are all that is left.
Cheers!

I spent Christmas holidays with family on Vancouver Island
with my daughter, her Mom and two grandsons, ages 8 and 21. I live about 20 miles from the Canadian border, so I go to Vancouver Island via the Tsawwassen Bay ferry.
It's worth knowing the cheapest fares are for the first and last Sailings of the day. They run every two hours and I booked the first ferry to the Island, Dec.22nd 5:30 am for under $50 (US), the next sailing two hours later was $105.50 and prices were even higher later.
When the Ferry docks on Vancouver Island it's about a 45 minute drive to Duncan and of course I'm happy to see the family, and I would soon learn from my daughter that due to high winds ALL other sailings were cancelled for the next days. So a lot of people were stranded on the Island or on the mainland.
Those ferries are large, a deckhand once told me they averaged about 300 vehicles onboard.
On this trip I was parked on the 4th level, cafeteria 2 floors up, and my trip seemed normal. So those high winds and waves must've just been building up and any weather bad enough to force those ferries not leave the Ports means no boats or ships should be out of a port.
I should add that cancellations due to weather such as this are fairly common, and local economies definitely benefit.
A little boogie woogie too!

SOE thank you for your OT. Especially greatful
for anything about regenerative agriculture. LO often offers YT about various efforts to explore what it takes to make healthier soils, crops and critters.
I'm especially interested in the principles and goals set out by HHS. Maybe there is hope that instead of paying not to grow crops the government will help farmers transition to regenerative methods. It doesn't take anywhere as long as once thought to rebuild soils and to have healthy pastures with rotational grazing. May it be our New Years goal.
Happy New Year to you and thank you for your OTs.

always wondered why the govt. would provide funds
to leave our lands fallow. Seems a bit unproductive.
Perhaps if one is entrusted with role of steward,
more beneficial decisions will be made, not just financial.

One of the guys I worked with when I was a union rep keeps me abreast of his wife's adventure in this "hot" new field. She got a late-in-life doctorate, and now she is building up her own AI station at an absurd cost for equipment and electricity consumption. The parts she needs have to be imported, causing much consternation due to the Trump tariff regime.
Personally, I call AI the Sorcerer's Apprentice. It is integral to the hidden revolution leading us toward whatever brave new world our owners are constructing.

down a slope toward oblivion than
an actual revolution IMO.
Zionism is a social disease
For most of us, it is a slide toward The End
but these changes are not for us -- they are aimed At us.
The Age of Human Superfluity. Almost all of us are unneeded already. The few who survive the shitstorm to come will be the folks running the shit show.
The first rule of unionism that I learned working a summer job at the Safeway meat warehouse in Garland, Texas: Don't ever work yourself out of a job.
When bots and AI have all the jobs, we can't even lollygag.

Normally, I tend to
ignore USA Today, as their approach to predigested and shrunken-down news doesn't fit my mental model. But then I ran across this in a news feed that I use, and I got a good smile out of it- it is pretty counterculture, at least by their usual standards...
