12/22 Open Thread - National Cookie Exchange Day

Make cookies, not war

MakeCookies

So, I guess exchanging cookies is a fine thing, unless one is on a diet, builds community and all that and lets one experience different variations from those one regularly makes themselves, if any. Though I've known folks whose participation would be to hand over a plate of tray full of Costco finest, or whatever the local grocer's bakery produced. Still, it's the spirit of the thing. My first rection was I just want to get rid of cookies without getting any in return, but I was thinking of the internet and not baked goods. That does bring to mind the idea that it might be a good day to set down and clean out all of your unwelcome cookies, i.e. most of them.

This is the anniversary of the death of (Anti)Pope John XXIII in 1415 This would be no big deal, but it appears that the record is a bit crazy with respect to this dude. It seems that he was considered to be the legitimate pope and successor to Saint Peter up until 1958. At that time somebody new wanted to be Pope John XXIII and, upon re-examination of the Western Schism, the church decided that the original Pope John XXIII was, in face, an antipope and the reign of Gregory XII is now deemed to have extended until 1415. Not being some kind of religio-savant, I am left wondering about the legitimacy of all those successors to the original John XXIII for the years from 1415 to 1958. That's like half a millennium of error there. Not my problem, but ...

@QMS

called "Thank God It's Monday Day". I guess it's better than there being no day at all, as in not waking up at all, but it otherwise seems pretty perverse. Ignorance is indeed bliss, at least in the sense of not knowing what tomorrow will bring, or even this evening. Today in the here and now is certainly enough to deal with. Locally very heavy rain, too.

What do y'all know about this topic? It was new to me this AM.
Trump's $47B Constitutional COUP: Mearsheimer Predicts REMOVAL in 72 Hours or America FALLS"

(17 min) In the most urgent analysis of his career, renowned geopolitical strategist John Mearsheimer reveals how Donald Trump's unprecedented seizure of $47 billion in Congressional funds has triggered a constitutional catastrophe that threatens the very foundation of American democracy.
What happened 72 hours ago is not politics. It's a coup.
Trump redirected funds at 2:47 AM without Congressional authorization—violating the separation of powers in the most direct way possible. Treasury lawyers resigned. Markets are fleeing. Foreign investors pulled $340 billion from U.S. assets in a single day. And for the first time in modern history, Mitch McConnell publicly broke from Trump, signaling that even the Republican establishment believes the Constitution has been violated beyond repair.
THE NEXT 72 HOURS WILL DECIDE EVERYTHING:
Will 17 Republican senators vote to remove Trump and save the Republic?
Or will America descend into executive authoritarianism with no constitutional limits?

Another sign, gold and silver made record highs this morning.

Sure sounds like a good day for this fellow...

Can't find any other reference on the seizure so guessing this is bull shit although I'm not sure what the purpose of it would be. Doesn't make sense but then again, making sense rarely enters into trumps decisions.

74degF today, here at 6700ft elevation south of Denver. Nope, nothing unusual about this at all. Just another normal average balmy swimming-pool day, 3 days before Christmas...

I'm hoping that some benefactor of CU, CSU, or the School of Mines (or all of 'em together) will step up and endow one of the schools to take over NCAR before all of the atmospheric researchers pack up and leave. The cheeto shutting that organization down is just unconscionable. I'm now so far beyond mere outrage fatigue that I can barely cope.

Never heard of exchanging cookies before. We are more of a give em away culture here.
I seldom have the time to prepare a breakfast, and I never wake up hungry, so breakfast is to put something in my stomach to keep it from growling, especially in a courtroom! So, my go to breakfast snack is a white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie. It crumbles all over the floor with each bite, so I sit on the front porch and check out the birds and flowers while the crumbs hit the deck. Lizards will eat them before the ants do.
Jtc is getting his final chemo infusion today, then pills through Sunday. It is actually hot this week, up to high 70s, low 80s, so he will not have the awful reaction to cold. A real break for him.
Take care, dear friend, and thanks for the OT!
