Pretending Peace

Open Thread Image.jpg

So a 28 point Ukraine peace plan has been leaked...most of which seems unrealistic to me. Perhaps it will serve as a starting point for conversation and reconciliation. Just returning to normal relations...like we had during the entire "cold war", would be an improvement. Things like having functioning embassies, direct flights, trade...would be a step in the right direction. Meanwhile in SW Asia, we have the Gaza (and West Bank) genocide continuing under the cover of a supposed ceasefire. Many continue to think a new conflict with Iran is in the offing. The aggression against Venezuela seems to be in a holding pattern. Perhaps someone has explained to Trump what an utter shitshow an invasion would be...at least I hope so. Here at home the government reopened with a whimper. The unclassified Epstein files were voted to be released, to which Pam Bondi declared "new information" has caused her to reopen the case and classify most of the documents. Nothing to see here...move along! The big news here locally is MTG has resigned. Many speculate she's planning a presidential run?

Israeli air strikes pummel Gaza less than 48 hours after UN adopts Trump's plan
Since the ceasefire in Gaza came into effect on 11 October, Israel has regularly violated many of its provisions.
Deadly attacks have occurred almost daily, killing more than 312 people and wounding over 700.
Since the genocide began in October 2023, Israel has killed nearly 70,000 people and wounded 170,000 more, with at least 10,000 more missing. At least 80 percent of those killed were civilians, according to the army’s leaked data.
Gaza’s government media office has recorded around 400 ceasefire violations by Israel since 11 October.

Human Rights Watch Says Israel’s ‘Ethnic Cleansing’ of West Bank Refugee Camps Amounts to War Crimes
The IDF forcibly displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians from three refugee camps in the northern West Bank at the beginning of the year....
The IDF began a major military offensive in the northern West Bank in January 2025, dubbed “Operation Iron Wall,” which began after a temporary Gaza ceasefire deal was reached. The IDF quickly displaced tens of thousands of residents of the Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams refugee camps, and began destroying many of their homes.
At the time, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the Palestinians wouldn’t be able to return, and he has kept that promise. The HRW said that the approximately 32,000 people who have been forcibly removed from the camps have been unable to return.

China‘s Silence on Gaza is Strategic | Zhang Sheng (61 min)
The United States just managed to pass a highly controversial resolution in the United Nations Security Council, which basically transforms Gaza into a UN Mandate and makes Donald Trump its governor. Resolution 2803 has already been heavily criticized by Human Rights experts like Francesca Albanese and Craig Mokhiber. The puzzling thing in this is that Russia and China, both abstained from voting, thereby helping the resolution to pass.

Alastair Crooke : Russians Believe Europe Wants War

(26 min) There were some interesting comments under the clip:
I am 73 years old now, and I have never in my life seen such incompetent and corrupt politicians across the west than we see today. That is why I think they want war, because it diverts from their incompetence. Some countries were very comfortable in WWII by being occupied, because all responsibility is abdicated. They want to give responsibility to military because they have messed up economies and they are not equipped to correct the situation without some great reset. Maybe the US dollar will collapse and Nato be dissolved to come to that point, but Russia will remain, there is no doubt.

There has never been a greater disconnect between the people of Europe and their pathetic, treasonous leaders. No Government that has submitted itself for reelection recently has survived, not even remotely. It tells Russia that the peoples of Europe have no need for war with Russia and every time they have the chance to kick out politicians who call for it is further evidence of it. The real question is why the Deep States are not being forced to be re-elected too, because decisions made to go to war taken by unelected people are acts of treason.

"Within 10 years, big changes will occur and the dollar will no longer be the reserve currency," says Dr. Marc Faber. In today's interview with Daniela Cambone, the famed contrarian investor and Grant Williams detail their stark outlook for the West, arguing that true capitalism has been dead for decades. "We haven't had real capitalism for 50-odd years now. It's been creeping further and further away to crony capitalism," Williams states, with Faber adding that the "damage has been done" after years of money printing that has expanded government and eroded living standards.
They break down the surprising optimism and economic growth they see across Asia, contrasting it with the declining conditions in the U.S. and Europe. Faber also shares why he believes physical precious metals, and specifically platinum which he calls a prime target for a market "squeeze", are the ultimate assets to protect wealth, while Williams reveals his argument for why Bitcoin and stablecoins are "highly questionable" in a world facing the risk of systemic blackouts and why central bank gold buying is a signal every investor must follow.

I keep a notebook by my chair, and note any interesting piece to post throughout the week. I usually spend about four hours over a couple of days putting the WW together. Keeps me informed too, plus helps to organize my thoughts on the events. Since all the various subjects are interrelated, it is a challenge to organize by topic.

Just using the Judge, Nima, and the Duran (plus Glenn Diesen) you can cover almost any current geopolitical topic. I miss the AE and hope its creator who was having health issues is doing all right. I am unclear, however, that "the aggression against Venezuela seems to be in a holding pattern."

Trump Begins New Phase of Venezuela Escalations...but Is It Just a Ruse?

There is, then, an actual war being waged against Venezuela right now. And it might escalate, or it might fall apart because people in the US might suddenly give two sh%ts about Trump's complete disdain for the US Constitution:

That means Trump may be leaning towards simply using the large American buildup in conjunction with various instruments of economic terror as a lever to bring down Maduro; these, of course, would also be used in conjunction with CIA and potential special forces covert ops to ‘trigger’ certain events in the country at convenient moments, particularly when the economic terror campaign has reached a certain needed culminating point.

Case in point:

Multiple airlines have cancelled their flights to Venezuela after the FAA warned of a “potentially hazardous situation” when flying over the country, according to Reuters.

Per DW, six airlines have cancelled their flights.

Cancelled flights, rerouted maritime and economic supply lines, mass-psychological and political pressure, etc. In essence, a slow strangulation campaign in conjunction with the sabotage of key energy infrastructure nodes throughout the country. That’s not to mention strikes on what are alleged to be narco-boats, which even US JAG lawyers contend to be illegal:

Holding pattern? Don't know.

Meanwhile, re Venezuela:

Adrian Fontes condemns President Trump for saying Mark Kelly should face death penalty

PHOENIX — Arizona’s top elections official said President Donald Trump’s recent comments about congressional Democrats who reminded military members not to obey unlawful orders are dangerous for democracy.

“The Democrats did the same thing my drill instructors did in Marine Corps boot camp. They told us, ‘You’re not to obey unlawful orders.’ Pretty simple. I think everybody whoever wore the uniform knows that,” Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Outspoken with Bruce & Gaydos on Friday.

One of the Democrats Trump condemned was U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, who said he and the other Democrats were specifically referring to recent strikes against alleged drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean Sea, which he believes are “really close” to crossing over into illegal activity.

President Donald Trump calls Arizona U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly a 'traitor' who should face death penalty.

They delivered their message in a Tuesday video post. Two days later, Trump lashed out on Truth Social in a response to a Washington Examiner article about the video.

What did President Donald Trump say in response to ‘unlawful orders’ post?

“It’s called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL,” the president posted. “Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL. Their words cannot be allowed to stand – We won’t have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET.”

Trump later added that he believes the video was “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”
He also shared a post by a user who wrote, “HANG THEM.”

“The president of the United States of America threatened American citizens and political opponents with death. That’s not what we do in this country. That’s not how you America,” Fontes said.

Trump’s comments are putting the country down a dark path, he added.

“This is some serious stuff here and particularly when you’ve got calls for political violence, which this is clearly,” Fontes said. “It’s not just unseemly and way beneath the office, but it’s disturbing, and it really takes us to a much darker place than, I think, we’ve been in before in this country.”

@Pluto's Republic I keep thinking of the sentence in the Constitution where it says that the President can be impeached for "high crimes and misdemeanors" --

"The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

Our current President doesn't believe in the Constitution, of course, and so there are no such things as high crimes and misdemeanors for him, since everything he does is by his definition legal. He can, and this is the case in point, murder anyone he wants, or so he thinks.

...of the nation. A lot of people believe there is no way back for the US, if the American People fail to take action against the unconstitutional crimes taking place.

Some attending the G20, believe they may be seeing the final collapse of the US. (The US did not attend the G20.) Some in the Global South believe that the European Union will fall apart. Many in the Middle East believe they are watching the final collapse of Israel.

But all we see is resignation in the US, the EU, the UK, and Israel. Nothing that looks like serious resistance or regime change.

Since WWII, the constant US wars are with countries that have nationalized their oil or other resources — meaning that the profits from the sale of oil (and/or other resources) belong to the People. This is why there is no "Left" in the Center-Right US Government. US assets are privatized to corporations.

Countries with nationalized oil include Russia, China, Iran, and Venezuela.

@Pluto's Republic
For some of the entities you mentioned, the answer is clear.

Israel: nuclear war between Israel and Iran. Israel nukes Iran, and Pakistan gives the Iran-remnant a nuke to unload upon what's left of Israel.

The EU collapse might be tricky. I would imagine that the end of Macron's term in 2017 would inspire a revolution in France. They would have to bring back the French Franc.

The rest I don't know. A US attack on Venezuela would move things forward rather quickly.

As regards our nonexistent "left," the Federal government is currently moving to destroy it before it dares to exist. I think the rest of us are waiting for the next war. What makes the revolution most possible at this point is that the representatives of the current system are their own worst enemies.

Meanwhile, for what little it is probably worth, Putin was elected and re-elected and Russia has a legislature and judiciary so Putin is far less of a dictator than any of the above.

Thanks in advance for the OT. One thing that strikes me, is if Israel is attacked, then it's open season on Gaza and "terrorists". Then there's the West Bank, the good little Indians on their little reservation. If they don't fight back then they just lose land, lives and some pitiful little autonomy. If they fight back, they're terrorists. Heads Israel wins, tails Palestinians lose.

Next, everyone is wringing their hands over the state of the US economy and the dollar. Strikes me with international capitalism the US is very susceptible to vulture capitalism, with the US sent to the international capitalist chop shop for wealth extraction. The US might consider that idea. Israel First is getting very old.

I've been singing this one for years, but just regaining it after some time.

Psalm of Life
poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Tell me not in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

CHORUS
Life is real, life is earnest,
And the grave is not its goal.
Dust thou art to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Lives of great men (ones) all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Let us then be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate.
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

My departed dear friend Lotus Dickey put Longfellow's poem to music. This a pretty close to my version, but I sing the entire poem

And from here on the mountain...Sing to the mountain.

LYRICS
Let the fires burn tonight, let the jugs of wine get drunk
Let the truth be known tonight, don’t go let yourself hide
Go and sing to the mountain, go and sing to the moon
Go and sing to just about everything, ‘cause everything is you
Listen to the rhythm of your heart play like a drum
Listen to the night-call singing songs from all around
Go and sing to the mountain, go and sing to the moon
Go and sing to just about everything, ‘cause everything is you

And let your voice go
Let it pierce through your soul

see you around the site next week...

be up and doing...

Indeed. While we still can.

For those - on the 'Right' in particular - who have dared to stray off the Narrative Reservation.

MTG, Thomas Massie, Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson...

Which seems to be having the opposite of the intended effect as their support continues to grow apace - and more and more people becoming willing to set aside ideological prejudices in favor of cooperating toward saving things like sovereignty, privacy, due process, an economy society not run solely by and for oligarchs.

Find myself checking in with TYT more frequently - Ana Kasparian on a patriotic rant is something to behold.

Here's just one example of the sort of thing the PTB *really* would rather people not
be aware of at all - much less become engaged and mightily outraged over:

Such a deal I have for you...

I think in the long run it will hurt the Zionist cause. I hope so.

I thought this was an interesting conversation on an America only take over of both parties.

"MAGA is dead, we need an America ONLY party right now!" and throw out the Israel first Uniparty
Ivan Raiklin has the distinction of being investigated by the Biden administration more than President Trump. If you can imagine that from the Bidens DOJ to the January 6th committee. Why? For putting America first and wanting honest transparency in our government. That's why they've been out to get him.
