Friday Night Photos Out Of Towners Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 11/21/2025 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.
As temperatures drop up north the migratory birds are heading for the warmer climates in the south. Most of the usual suspects have already shown up at Santee Lakes. Every winter, along with the usual cast of characters, there's always one bird that's a rarity. This year it's a pair of Mandarin Ducks. I haven't seen them yet but they have been spotted hanging around Santee Lakes the last few weeks.

Excellent images as per usual.
However it does not appear to be a good day for being a fish.
Hi, humphrey
Yeah, it kind of sucks when your roll as a species is to be food for other species. Very thankful I'm not a small fish.

Thanks sp, grat photos. East-West is also very welcome,
a fabulous work by a great band. It always reminds me of my elder brother for reasons that we need not go into.

Hi el
I've always loved a good jam. Hope the memories of your brother are good ones.

just noise?
Thanks for the pix!
Zionism is a social disease
Hi, Q
Depending on the bird, that noise can be very pleasant to listen to.

Migratory birds
Getting to greet the out of towners during migration season is always an exciting time! When we lived on the Texas coast, loved the warbler migration that came through and the raptor migration in the July through November season.
This year my sister and I are repeating a trip we took last year to Zion National Park. We will drive there and check things out as we go. The road up the canyon is closed to vehicle traffic except for people staying at the lodge and the shuttle buses that run up and down all day long. It is a good time to be on a bicycle riding the road. We looked for the condor that have been seen and I have a list of other birds we can possibly see while there.
Thanks for all your wonderful bird shots!
Life is what you make it, so make it something worthwhile.
This ain't no dress rehearsal!
Hi, jakkalbessie
Hope you and your sister have a great trip to Zion. I've never been there but one day hope to.

Wonderful bird pics, SP!
Thanks so much. Reminds me of what I've been missing lately in the way of wildlife. In my old neighborhood, I would see a variety of birds like this in my yard, and in the local park I frequented. Hawks, cranes, curlews, owls, osprey, doves, hummingbirds...
It also brings to mind this song Bird, Bird, Blue Bird, which is a famous Korean minyo or folk song said to be from the period of the Tonghak peasant rebellion in Korea. This recording is from the Nokdu Flower song track-

Hi, soryang
Beautiful music. Hope you're able to find a spot to see all your birds again. I know how relaxing it is to sit and listen to them singing in the trees.

Yes it is, SP
Some of the birds were so accustomed to me, they didn't even fly away when I approached.
