Newsworthy

Watched an Oregon Public Broadcasting program last night regarding the demise of the newspaper industry in America.
It told of them being gobbled up one by one by a certain hedge fund conglomerate. They would then be slowly cut down with huge layoffs, then stripped of assets and the land sold off. In some instants seizing employees pension funds.
Today two hedge funds own the majority of local, regional, and national newspapers.
The whole debacle reminds me of the airline consolidations of the 70s-80s and the demise of multiple companies serving the public travel needs.
I'll have to admit I helped with the slow death of newspapers by moving my news gathering and perusal to online, as most of us have. But what is missing is the actual local news that we all still get from local broadcast newscasts (the 6 0'clock news), but is sadly lacking in depth.
The Sundays of pouring through the 3" thick Sunday paper over coffee and the Winston Cup race (remember that?) are long gone. Even the proliferate ads were carefully looked over.
I miss those days.
The consolidations, buyouts, and hostile takeovers will continue until only one very rich person owns everything.
He (or she) will be King Capitalist.
Then we will have to have another fruitless "No Kings" protest.
Thread is open.

Guess it is fortunate
.
we still get the weekly paper
local news and events
costs $35/yr. The quality of
reporting has diminished over the years.
But it does help to keep up with current events.
Thanks for the OT!
Zionism is a social disease
I don't even know
if our local Oregonian is still in print. But the last time I saw one it too was greatly diminished. We had a local Vancouver issue called the Columbian that was never very good even decades ago.
I wonder if all the big presses and machinery have been cut up for scrap or stored somewhere?
Enjoy your day, Capt'n.

Good morning, e1!
What happened to anti trust suits? When did monopolies become the new norm? Newspapers, the MSM, the movie industry, farms, all being consolidated at the same time.
I keep up with local news online. Arrests and crimes dominate the news.
At least I know which parts of the county to avoid.
I won't notice the deterioration of cable tv or movies, since I have ignored them for decades.
I read that some of our most trusted newscasters were CIA assets, such as Morrow and Cronkite. Maybe I would be better off if I had ignored them while growing up.
I also read that the CIA edited movie scripts, such as "Hello, Dolly!". Well, fuck that shit.
I haven't been convinced that war is peace yet.
Take care, e1, and thanks for the oT, friend.

Consolidation is good and bigger is better was the
firm belief of William Jefferson Reagan Clinton who pretty much blessed media consolidation and winked at all other monopolies.

He gave the speech to another group.

In spite

Thanks for posting it.

Good morning e1. Before the hedge funds took over it
was majpr media firms gobbling up small and then mid-ssed and even large media companies. I had abit of a ringside seat, knowing a handful or press people personally. We still have a very small weekly freebie with mostly extremely local news and I have no idea how it manages to keep going, but it does.

Thanks for that Johnson video
He makes some great points on the range of those supposed drug boats from Venezuela. If they can make it all the way to American shores, we need to seize some to copy their technology.
The whole thing is farce. We want their oil, period. Drugs my ass. This is one of the most blatant lies Trump has ever spun.
