A Perverted Peace in Palestine

Open Thread Image.jpg

Palestinians continue to be targeted and shot. The Zionists have hired Islamic terrorist gangs to do their killing in Gaza. Hamas is shooting back and protecting the Gaza residents. Israel claims it is Hamas who is breaking the cease fire. They call for Hamas to disarm. When has Israel ever abided by a cease fire? There's still talk of attacking Iran soon. The situation in Ukraine is equally farcical. Russia continues advancing and destroying Ukrainian troops and equipment. I look for the possible meeting of Trump and Putin in Hungary to be as fruitful as their Alaska summit, which is to say, "empty". In the Caribbean, the US navy continue blowing up boats claiming they are shipping drugs without a particle of evidence nor legality. Then there's an announcement of a CIA operation to kill Maduro in Venezuela...I guess it is covert turns overt? So not much peace in the western sphere.

Last week, Israeli forces killed five Palestinians in the Shujayea neighbourhood, also in Gaza City.
Israel has continued to seal the Rafah crossing with Egypt and blocked other key border crossings, preventing large-scale aid deliveries into the enclave.
The United Nations warned this week that aid convoys are struggling to reach famine-hit areas, with 49 percent of people accessing less than six litres of drinking water per day – well below emergency standards.

They Said The Massacres Would Stop When The Hostages Were Released. They Haven’t Stopped.
On Friday Israel reportedly blew up a vehicle carrying a Palestinian family of eleven people, including seven children. The IDF gave its usual excuse for the massacre: the civilians were deemed to have crossed an invisible line into a forbidden zone which made the Israeli soldiers feel unsafe. They did this exact same thing constantly during the last “ceasefire” as well...
But two years of genocide have made it clear that the Israeli military was never killing Palestinian civilians in order to push for the release of hostages or force Hamas to cave in to their demands. The Israeli military kills Palestinian civilians in order to kill Palestinian civilians. The killing is the goal, and it always has been.

On World Food Day, Israel continues to restrict aid into Gaza
Two million people continue to face hunger and thirst, while more than 460 Palestinians have died from starvation.

The cruelty continues, and not just in Gaza and the West Bank...
Heavy Israeli Airstrikes Reported in Southern and Eastern Lebanon, One Killed
...
Israel has been attacking Lebanon on a near daily basis since the ceasefire was signed in November, but increasingly intense strikes in recent weeks, destroying a large number of construction vehicles last week in an attack on Msayleh.
Over the weekend, Israel even carried out a drone attack against UNIFIL peacekeepers in the area near Kfar Kela, wounding one. It was the second time they struck near UNIFIL personnel in the past month, and the IDF insisted only that they would take measures to avoid casualties when striking near them in the future.

Whitewashing Gas Exploration in Post-Genocide Gaza
Rubio’s timing was in line with efforts to neutralize potential legal challenges in the aftermath of the ceasefire when offshore explorations would take off. Furthermore, the three Palestinian NGOs – Al Haq, Al Mezan and the PCHR – just happen to be the ones that in February 2024 had confronted the Israeli gas exploration licenses offshore Gaza.
These were not just human rights groups that had long, highly-regarded track-record and that had assisted ICC and other international organizations in their pursuit for human rights in the Middle East. They were also likely to protest vocally and internationally, if the Palestinians’ energy rights were to be shunned.
Just as Israel had ejected Al Jazeera and other major news organizations from Gaza to shape crisis reporting, while subjecting leading Western news media networks to its military censorship, it seemed to target these human rights organizations to minimize negative publicity in gas exploration.
...
The efforts to develop the Gaza Marine natural gas field have been hindered for almost three decades. With the prospects of ceasefire, these efforts are accelerating.
Irrespective of their official mandates, the “reality creators” that have already positioned themselves in the area – property developers like Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, and political intermediaries, such as Tony Blair – are likely to use their current posts to cash on the Gaza opportunities in the future.
After two years of infrastructure destruction and genocidal atrocities in Gaza, the Strip is ecocide-ridden.
Haunted by a series of moral hazards and interests of conflict, Blair will be in charge of an area cleansed of armed conflict and presumably buzzing with development, a “special economic zone” through which foreign capital can flow and overseen by his international “board of peace.”
The quasi-colonial protectorate pledges boldly in the name of “reformed Palestine” in which Palestinians have little or no say – once again.

That Trump performance at the SS Knesset was so humiliating for America. He really bowed down to kiss his genocidal donors ar*es. Very treasonous really by a POTUS so blatantly kowtowing to foreign "Israel-First" interest plans.

The U.S. once again pretends to be an impartial and rational arbiter of “peace”, puts a band-aid on an amputation instead of a tourniquet and when it fails will cry out, “oh THESE people been at war for thousands of years!” When, one should ask, has the U.S. government not been at war and oppressing people and destroying ecosystems EVERYWHERE.

US Attempts to Regime Change in Venezuela...Again

Report: US Bombs Another Boat in the Caribbean and There Are Survivors
The Thursday attack marks the sixth boat that the US has bombed since September 2. So far, the US has provided no evidence to back up its claims that the vessels were carrying drugs or that the 27 people extrajudicially executed were drug traffickers.
While most of the strikes have targeted boats that left Venezuela, at least one hit a vessel that left Colombia and killed Colombian nationals, according to a report from CNN. It also appears that a strike the US launched on Tuesday killed two citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, and the family of one of the men says he was a fisherman who was not involved in drug trafficking and was attempting to return home from a visit to Venezuela.

Amazing, a US naval officer with morals?
Head of US Southern Command To Step Down Amid Strikes on Boats and Push Toward Venezuela Regime Change
According to The New York Times, Adm. Alvin Hosley has raised concerns about bombing boats and the policy toward Venezuela...he had raised concerns about the US military mission in the Caribbean, which has involved a significant buildup of forces and the bombing of five boats that the Trump administration has claimed, without providing evidence, were carrying drugs.

Nicolás Maduro rejects ‘regime change’ and criticizes ‘CIA coups’ in Latin America

The Venezuelan president calls on American society to to be ‘alert to avoid a war in the Caribbean and in South America’...“Peace must prevail,” affirmed Maduro, who also resorted to his deliberately clumsy English to proclaim “Not war, peace.” “No to regime change, which reminds us so much of the failed wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. No to coups d’état carried out by the CIA like those in Chile and Argentina. Until when will CIA coups d’état continue? Latin America doesn’t want them, doesn’t need them, and repudiates them,” continued Hugo Chávez’s successor. These statements came a few hours after Trump confirmed that he has authorized the CIA to carry out covert operations inside Venezuela.

@QMS We got a nice 0.5" rain this morning before daylight. Much needed.

Got sweet potatoes dug and on the porch drying. They will go down to the little room with the water heater to cure for a couple of weeks. For optimal curing, sweet potatoes should be kept in a controlled environment with high humidity and a temperature between 80°F and 90°F. Then, we store them in our little pantry by the kitchen. We still have some from last year.

Thanks for coming by and reading!

Thanks for that little tutorial regarding sweet potatoes. Got any advice on curing Yukon Gold Potatoes?
I need a root cellar badly. Our potatoes and onions and such languish on the floor in the garage to cure. Then we put them in short boxes (one layer deep) and put them on a shelf in said garage.
Not much in the way of temp control all winter long. But it doesn't drop below freezing there.
Still some spoilage though by spring/summer.
May think about excavating one at the farm.
Thanks for all the material and WW.

We harvest and dry in the sun in the mulched garden. I wear gloves and clean off the dirt (a step I didn't mention with the sweet potatoes). We store them without washing, and wash before using (same with sweet potatoes). We use boxes with holes and store them in the pantry with the sweet potatoes.

The pantry is cool, but not cold. It is in the house so humidity is less than outside. We do get some sprouting, and sometimes have one spoil. It is important to get rid of any rotten produce ASAP...like the adage one rotten apple will spoil the barrel.

How to Store Your Potatoes
Place the potatoes in a cardboard box, paper bag, mesh bag, or basket to ensure good ventilation. Plastic bags won't allow them to breathe and will shorten their shelf life considerably, so remove them from a plastic bag if you've brought them home in one.
Store your potatoes in a cool, humid, and dark place (45 to 50 F is the ideal temperature range). If you have an unheated basement, that's a perfect spot for your potatoes. An insulated garage or shed might also work during the winter. Never store potatoes in the fridge. The too-cold temperature turns the potato starch into sugar.
Check on your potatoes regularly and remove any that are soft, shriveled, or sprouted so they don't cause more potatoes to go bad. Even if your potatoes have sprouted, they are still safe to eat as long as they are firm to the touch and are not shriveled.

I think the trick is grow enough to allow for some loss. We eat less potatoes these days. We still are primarily low carb/keto, but try to be flexible - eating potatoes and so on on sporadic occasions.

Good luck in your efforts!

yet, hpe to be able to listen while doing chores and projects, depends a bit on the wifi signal. Had about 1.45" of rain on the 13th and nothing since, time to till my fake ollas in the garden beds, among other things. Good luck with the chores. I've never struggled with leaf miners. A quick search suggests neem oil with soap, and using row covers (to prevent infestation). Good luck. It's always something!

grocery shopping and stock up for a months worth of food and household items. Changes in prices are even more stark.
I probably shouldn't say this online, but I keep and have monthly receipts going back to 2004 in a kitchen drawer. Valuable data that some researchers somewhere would be interested in. Hope for no suspicious housefires.
I go back on occasion and check the numbers on products I always buy. Like Spam. We love it and use it in many dishes we serve. We have a deck of Spam cards that have a different recipe on each card. We haven't tried half of them yet.
In 2006 I bought several cans (great emergency storage item) for $1.79 ea. It has doubled in that time, but was on sale @ $2.98 yesterday. I picked up a dozen cans to rotate my stock.
I think it would be safe to say in ten years Spam will be $6 a can. Best by date is about three years after packing, but I've consumed (in a pinch) cans as old as 6 years. No problem for me. YMMV.
