Found this recipe today which is
intriguing. It is basically soybeans
which have been dried, salted and
fermented. Called Chinese Black Beans.
Used to spice-up dishes giving them a
umami essence. Have you ever heard of this?

Speaking of bankruptcies,

apparently this is how the game is played now:

As we reported yesterday, on Wednesday one of the largest creditors to First Brands alleged that as much as $2.3bn had “simply vanished” as part of the company’s abrupt failure. That lender, one of several who had provided off-balance sheet financing relying on that collateral, is now pushing for an external investigation into the company’s actions leading up to the bankruptcy.

“The debtors should not be permitted to appoint the very parties that will investigate their own potential misconduct,” the counsel for Raistone, one of the companies that helped arrange off-balance sheet financings for First Brands, wrote in an emergency petition last night.

Separately, First Brands appointed two independent directors to probe how the company financed itself through these opaque off-balance sheet vehicles, summarized in the charts below. The company, which makes windshield wipers and fuel tank pumps for cars, had relied on a web of financiers to fund its operations and a wave of acquisitions.

It'll just be interesting to see how they do it this time- the whole "committing suicide by shooting oneself in the back of the head twice while slipping on a banana peel in the shower while holding an energized hair dryer on a sinking ship" thing has already been *done*, you know. a favorite ingredient

Often use asparagus, fresh green beans or broccoli with quick stir fry technique in frying pan or wok with garlic and ginger. Optional add sliced 1 lb beef marinated. Mixed in order 1 T oyster sauce, 2 tsp soy sauce, 1 T dry sherry, 1/2 tsp sugar & 2 tsp sesame oil set for at least 20 min. can substitute oyster sauce with soy sauce and use a dry white or rice wine for sherry.

I didn't know this "black bean" dish

...you described QMS. But I don't know much about food. I'm spoiled by Ms. So who has been a cook for most of her working life.

My most favorite "black bean" dish is Jjajangmyun. Maangchi the well known South Korean cook, (re)published this just recently:

Jjajangmyeon is everybody’s favorite food. It’s actually a very popular Korean Chinese dish, created by early Chinese immigrants in Korea, catering to Korean tastes. Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) is another example. The almost caramel taste of the savory black bean sauce over the thick, chewy wheat flour noodles makes for a really unique taste and texture. When I was young, a plate of jjajangmyeon from a Chinese restaurant always made me excited. When you order it delivered they bring you the noodles in a special tin box in under 30 minutes! I usually ended up covered in jjajang sauce and my mom had to give me a Kleenex.

I love the taste of the jjajang (black bean) sauce! Traditionally, a large brown ceramic pot of "black bean paste" usually sat outside of traditional Korean homes and even on the patios of village and city homes.

Doinjang is fermented soybean paste, yielding a rich taste. It is used to make another black bean dish, Doinjang Jjigae, A soybean bean paste base soup stew.
