Friday Night Photos Safari Park Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 10/03/2025 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.
Nothing new or exciting to report on in San Diego. The weather has been beautiful (sunny, low 80s) , groceries are still expensive, the Padres were eliminated from the playoffs yesterday (bummer), and gas was $4.49 a gallon last time I filled up.
I went to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for a few hours Tuesday morning.

I am impressed by the ability that you have to get the various
animals to pose just for you.
Hi, humphrey
I just have a way with animals.
Actually, it takes a lot of patience and shoot a lot of frames, in this case 185. A little luck doesn't hurt either. Of the 185, I had 21 worth keeping and editing.

Hi, Q
It may not be the same as an African safari, but it sure is a whole lot cheaper and I can go as often as I like.
Thanks for the R.E.M. Until seeing that video I never know it was Kate Pierson doing the female vocals.

Hi, el
I'm not sure how long the park has had the Sand Cat. It's the first time I've seen it. In fact it's the first time I've ever seen one. I had to look it up and see where they're from. Found out they're from North Africa and the Middle East.

Hi Social
Thank you for the gorgeous portraits. The gorilla portraits blow me away. One so serious, and one so funny. I love the glint of the light in his/her eyes, and the pose reminds me of Rodin’s The Thinker.
Do you think some of the animals recognise you after many visits? Wouldn’t it be interesting to give the gorillas a camera to take portraits of us.
The two gorilla
shots are the same gorilla taken three minutes apart.
There are so many visitors to the park I doubt the animals recognise the regular visitors. I suspect they do recognise their keepers since they see them all the time.

You might be surprised one day
Make sure you capture the wave on film ; )
Hi all
I hope you're all well and safe and enjoying Autumn.
Springtime in these parts ...
I also am feeling more of a spring in my step after a back injury.
Hi, janis
Glad to hear your feeling better and are able to get out and about. I think I can safely say we have all been missing your photos. Good to see all that green again.

You know Sp, if I was a few decades
younger, I would make a return trip to CA. I have a very dear friend who lives very happily with his husband, and their pup (Boxer) in Santa Rosa. I would get the Royal Tour of that nearby City on the Bay. You, now, have got me all hyped up over San Diego. Their tourist bureau needs to add you to their payroll. I love the Safari photos!!!
jb, I was wondering about you? Good to hear you are doing well! Love your painting, er, photo. So far, so good on hurricane season. It's been weird though. We've had no tropical storm nor hurricane threats so far in ECFL. Climate change, and it does make me nervous. Hope all is going well for everyone. Rec'd!!.

Hi, obf
Don't let age stop you from making a trip to Ca. Both the Bay Area and San Diego are well worth the visit.
Thanks for the Tokens.

Hi obf
It's always fun to read your posts. I am very happy for you and all Floridians to be storm free for another season.
I agree that Social is a great ambassador for SD.
I loved hearing that version of The Lion again. Listening to it now, I can hear Paul Simon's inspiration.
I once had a secretary that was from Ca.
She took a vacation to visit friends in Ca., visited the zoo. She knows I have a "thing" for sloths, having pursued them in several central Am countries, so she brought me back a night shift with a big picture of a sloth on it! I got a freebie from that cool zoo!

Hi, otc
The zoo still has a two-toed sloth but it's rarely on public display. It's been years since I've seen it.

Hi Social
I read that the Sloth is naturally reclusive, which somehow makes sense to me.
This sounds like the beginning of a limerick
