Wildfire Smoke Particles Suck!
Honestly, until I wrote the date down for the title of this post, I didn't realize it was September 11th, Patriot Day, today. And that's how out of it I've been lately.
I got sick last week and wasn't able to get online and get anything done, or read or whatever. And so I wasn't even able to respond to the Thursday Open Thread. Bleh! I'm so sorry!
Therefore I also wasn't able to get something really good going for this week's post. So, I'm posting an interesting article from the BBC that was written a few years ago; it's about computer errors caused by cosmic rays and is called 'The Computer Errors from Outer Space'. I wonder how to keep computer code constantly under surveillance to check to see if a bit flips because of a cosmic ray? What if the surveillance code bit gets flipped? Interesting stuff!

Of course, in most cases, computer errors are probably not due to cosmic rays. There are a lot more reasons for bits to flip, such as the construction and age of computer elements, electric surges in energy supply lines and so, so much more.
Last week I had incredibly bad visual migraines from sinus trouble which made my eyes feel as though they were going to explode every time I tried to look at anything. When I kept them closed, my eyeballs felt like they were resting on deep, extremely painful, throbbing bruises. Those migraines and the pain were caused by wildfire smoke particles which came into our area last week and stayed for days starting about a week ago. So I took pain relief - ibuprofen and... that made me very sick. I got the projectile vomit side-effect. Took days to get over everything. I spent a lot of that time in bed, feeling sick and useless. Luckily, Nikko has decided he wants to be Nikko, M.D. and he did a lot of doctoring and nursing, bringing me his toys and treats as gifts as I laid in bed, laying down next to me, snuggling, sniffing all over and showing me all kinds of love. And he didn't bring me another dead rabbit from outside, although I did get a lump of old bread dough (past its prime) that hubby had put on the compost heap for the chickens. Nikko brought it in and hid it under my pillow as a gift! Good boy!

Just for grins, archaaeologists discovered a
"Montefortino"-style Roman helmet in an underwater excavation in the Aegadian Islands off the coast of Sicily in excellent condition. The Romans were turned on to this helmet style by the Celts and it became a big time favorite with the Romans. The location is the location of a major naval battle that ended the first Punic War.

I had a buddy who put himself
in the hospital burning a big pile of what he thought was just brush and weeds. Well, apparently the weeds in the pile were mostly poison ivy and poison oak, and he got a few good lungfuls of the smoke from that...
I don't recommend it. Wildfire smoke is little better.

I remember burning poison oak...
by accident as a kid. It was just after we moved into the Santa Cruz mountains, we were clearing out little property. Never again!!! Luckily most of the stuff we were burning were leaves and pine and redwood needles. Pheww.

I am surrounded by Sam Houston National forest. Wildfires have occurred, but are rare. Most of the nasty smoke comes from controlled burns.
trump has opened up the forest to logging and eliminated the prohibitions of roads. Soon, there will be no forest in said national forest. I am happy I got to ride my horse through those forests for decades. Boomers didn't realize how lucky we were until now.
While I have had a few days here and there of thick smoke, I could easily avoid it. Lucky me, unlucky you. But, I may find myself with sinus cavities from hell, and no Dr. Nikko to treat me. Damn.
So glad to hear your health problem is situational, with the situation resolving itself soon.

or state forests most of my life. Not so much in England or Philly though. Heh. I thought I was used to fires, but something has changed. I think it's postmenopausal or something. It's like I've gotten allergies I never had. Weird.
Trump just had some of the firefighters on our local fire, on the Olympic Peninsula, taken away by Ice, even though they are 'legit'. I guess the beating fire doesn't matter, eh?
