OT WE 6 AUG 25 ~ Bombs Away

~
unnamed_4.jpg

Here we are on a special Wednesday (aren't they all ?).
Sitting here at the local library wondering if the writers group
is going to show-up. Doesn't look like it, but thought I would use
the opportunity to type something up for tomorrow. For y'all.

Take it as is comes. It just may turn out alright.
Open thread so fire away.

A bit thin on content today. Sometimes this happens with
scheduled broadcasts. May try to fill-in the blanks later if
the brain engages. Intermittent Wi-Fi ongoing. Is there a
solar storm? Can't see thru the smokey haze.

@QMS
but that is not expected to cause any significant trouble. Sun has been quiet for several days now and may have started the downturn toward the next Solar minimum.

The planet has seemed to be unusually active with regard to seismic activity, particularly the far eastern Russian peninsula which recently experienced a massive 8+ quake with pacific tsunami warnings. The area continues to have multiple daily quakes in the 4-5 range.

Hopefully things will quiet down. A bit of “normal” activity would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the open thread. It allows me to publicly ruminate about where my curiosity has taken me.

Assume you are witnessing the same haze
out there on the cape? It is weird with the orange
moon at night and there is a brightness in the sky
now (which I assume is the sun) but no clouds.
My wife says she can smell the smoke but I do not.

Hope you are well and still cycling.

@QMS
a couple of nights ago. Never seen anything like it before. Upper level winds were headed towards Hudson’s Bay so prolly won’t see that tonight. This morning’s air quality was ‘Good’.

Have a date with my wife for a mushroom hunting ride on the bike trail this afternoon, after our nap time. Ha. Senior-hood requires some recalibrations, but we’re doing well, all things considering.

@QMS

I was very amused by these guys, though. This is another of those 1983-84 era songs where punk was sliding into new wave.

I'll have to try to resurrect some of my old tunes to post here- folks would probably get a good laugh out of them. I lost all the master tapes in the fire, but I have a couple of cassette dubs that survived and that might be amenable to resurrection. I've been meaning to do that for a long time, but life kept getting in the way. Perhaps I can use some of my 10-hours-per-week of newfound freedom to do exactly that...

Battery went out yesterday on the '92 Geo. Luckily it was still in warranty, so the replacement was free. However the reason the battery went out is the alternator was over charging it. So picked up the new alternator this AM and dropped it by the local mechanic. Always something when you drive 30 and 40 YO cars, but sure is cheaper than payments.

Hope your fellow writers showed up eventually. Thanks for the OT!

overcharge kills them faster
than undercharge
and alternators are just a durn devil
brushes, bearings and regulators
tend to be the demise of them
good luck with the replacement

晒干白茶 Shài gān báichá. This tea brand is just 晒白茶 Shài bái chá. The Swiss have it labeled in English. Shine White (Tea). Daughter gave us a one ounce packet of this sun dried white tea, when I told her I thought it was very good. They had received a box of it for a gift. She said it was expensive, so I looked it up. It comes from Yunnan via the Swiss. A six ounce box is probably about 100 bucks. 6 bricks about one ounce each.

Coincidentally, just saw a LCE youtube travelogue on Yunnan showing how it is made. Some of the tea trees are hundreds of years old. I like the photos on the ad below. It took me hours to find the meaning of 晒. I'd been looking into this tea on and off for a few days after I saw the Little Chinese woman (I forget her first name) doing her trip in Yunnan. I read on one of the other tea company web sites that a family farm there might produce on 60 kilos in a season. Didn't do the math. So I thought then it's still private property? How bourgeois! I think she said, the large pressed one kilo discs are a thousand dollars or more wholesale.

Shine White Tea

This was a interesting gift. Better than any US tea I ever tasted. Now I understand the financial imbalance the tea trade created in the 19th Century for the Brits. Yunnan is the prefecture near Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam, if I remembered what I learned correctly

Gotta go to the dentist. Ouch. Have a nice day yoraboon.

I finally arrive at a morning when I can leisurely sip coffee and watch the deer roam, and there are no deer in sight. Sort of like no fellow writers showing up for the writer's group function.
I have a follow up appointment with a dermatologist this afternoon. I have a recurring rash, and he prescribed a magic salve for it. The rash is long gone, but I want to get one more prescription for that compound, given that it likely comes from China. Get it while the gettin's good, as the saying goes.
I must get ready for work, Cap'n. Thanks for the OT, dear friend!

Multiple birds fighting over the bird feeder. There's four sides guys, just get along.
I hear ya on the salve. I'm looking for an alt source for my Lipitor, should it come to that.
Question? Can I get busted coming across the Canadian border with Lipitor or it's generic?
Asking for a friend, heh.

@earthling1 laws. Basically, it is illegal. However, it is not often actually prosecuted. The aim is to protect US drug manufacturers who can't compete with Canada's mandatory cheap drugs. What will land you in jail is buying as US drug from a Canadian pharmacy at cheap Canadian prices.
I remember the times when I visited Guatemala that I would buy a dozen packs of Amoxicillin to bring home and give to my family. $2.00 for a 10-day dose. Nevermore. Nevermore.

Can't buy any goods? Too bad -- tariffs.

Can't get the utilities to work? Sorry, you paid for nothing. And the corporations own your government, so you can't make them do anything.
