The Real Lesson of the Sleepy Joe Presidency

Fox News and the rest of the wingnut noise machine call it a scandal and "demand" to investigate who was really running the country while Joe was dozing off and walking into walls. As always, they are full of shit.

Now that Trump finds himself in a position in which nobody on the other side of the table gives much of a shit what President Blowhard has to say, it should be obvious to anyone who is not in the Red or Blue Cult that Trump is not any more in charge than Joe was.

JFK got killed, Nixon got the bum's rush and Reagan and Shrub were nothing but tools to begin with. Clinton and Obama were ambitious tools who presided over the forgetting of the New Deal while stamping out the last of liberal politics at the national level.

Whoever lives in the White House is nothing but a ceremonial figure, like the "king" of Great Britain.

I find it amazing that anybody takes Trump seriously as a world figure.

Do indeed include the concept of the preznit
as being the supreme leader of the most powerful
regime in all existence. Thinking people can sort-out this
delusion in a reasonably piecemeal fashion.

For the record, the position of US president does not
contain power over affairs (Including his PR team).

I like this prostate cancer news story

It shows that Sleepy Joe was so desperate to "have" power that, well, he could have had himself screened a long, long time ago and maybe they would have removed a chunk of malignant tissue and he wouldn't be in the situation he's in now. But omigod! The bad publicity! So no. It takes a special type of egomaniac. Self-sacrifice for the cause of "me." History will remember him as a bottom-five President, for Ukraine and Gaza.

Zionist is simply a way to signal antisemitism

I don't hear Zionist used lately to describe people who support an independent democratic state of Israel. Of course many people are proud of being bigots, and being able to be so in public, but for those who are not racists, I'd suggest another word so people don't make assumptions.

Each presidential administration becomes more powerful than the last, mostly due to congress not legislating. Imagining Trump in reality to be controlled by a shadowy cabal behind the scenes is like tuning in to secret messages via the fillings in your teeth or chem trails.

I don't know what Zionism means

@on the cusp I always thought it was an answer to the long-standing prejudice of Europeans toward Jews. It is associated with the migration of Jews to the Holy Land which became the State of Israel after Germany's attempt to exterminate them all came to its miserable end.

Beyond that vague impression, I could not tell you what Zionism is today.

I usually agree with OTC and I decided not to quibble over what that Ism really means in the 21st Century. It serves as shorthand for people who want to see Israel smite all its purported enemies who supposedly want to do a Hitler on them.

That take was never persuasive and now that Israel is the exterminator, it is simply nutso.

Jewish nationalism

@fire with fire supporting a Jewish state in Palestine. It is about taking land, creating a country of one ethnic group.
Anything said that is negative toward Israel will not be responded to with explanation, justification, or rationale. It is always responded to with the charge of antisemitism and that stops the debate in it's tracks.
