Told you so

open thread.jpg

The war is heating up fast in the Middle East. And the fog is starting to lift so that we can see what's going on more clearly.
Israel just may have bit off more than it can chew. Frantic calls for rescue from Israel to the US have so far gone unheeded.
And it seems the US has been warned to stay out of it, and smartly so, as Iran still has the nuclear option in its toolbag.
No, not the exploding kind, the shut down of the flow of oil that the world depends on.
Massive economic damage would crush the US vassal states of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE, among others.
Brent and WTI crude are shooting up already. And we should start seeing a rise in gas prices by the end of the week. It will hit Americans hard. The PNW is already hitting over $4 a gallon at the discount stations.
This will impact summer driving season and in turn, the recreation and vacation industries.
Our Canada trip is in a circular holding pattern for a couple of reasons. One is the gas prices could skyrocket and become scarce, not a fun thought being 1000 miles from home and in a foreign country.
And that foreign country not particularly fond of America, as our president is threatening a takeover and unfair tariffs.
I'm watching the Europeans protest the tourists there and squirting them with waterguns, just because there are so many of them clogging their cities.
I really don't want Canadians squirting me with moose piss. I really love Canada and Canadians. It's why I want to visit there.
We've already ticked-off the snowbirds with the added red tape and hassles crossing the border to come south for the winter. Many have sold their vacation lots in Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada and vowed to never return.
My little mini motorhome gets 15 mpg. A 2000 mile round trip would take $800 at $6 bucks a gallon. I could stomach that. I'd bitch a lot though.
But if Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz, prices could spike to unknown levels and induce shortages. It would possibly spark the odd/even fueling routine of the 70s, and a return to a nationwide 55 mph speed limit.
Remember those days?
I'm sensitive to gas prices because I go for long stretches of not buying any, as we use our electric Leaf for most all our transport needs.
My son always ribbed me for buying electric, even though gas prices have doubled since 2016.
If the price spikes further, I'll be the first to tell him I told you so.
How are your gas prices?

Feel free to remind the Canadians that their Parliament unanimously applauded a real live Nazi back in 2023. Canada may be a nice place but on one level they've got Oregon's problem: lots of people who are sweet and kind but whose politics is totally manipulated, with their express permission.

I keep wondering what will happen when all of these people around the world are left with nothing after the vast house of cards that is the West crashes to the ground. Will they revolt?

The Rachel Blevins interview with Laith Marouf reveals what the problem is at present. Now is the time for the Zionist regime to strike, apparently, because a long war will not work out for it. A large portion of Israel wants to get out. If Iran hits the desalination plants in Israel there will be no substitute source of water. If Israel drops a nuke on Tehran, Pakistan will drop a nuke on Tel Aviv.

I guess it matters where in Canada you're going, but there are some interesting readings on PurpleAir east of Winnipeg.

they are gonna drop the Iranian boxcar biolabs card?
And if I were Tulsi I'd resign immediately after that remark and show the American people she actually does have scruples.
An incredibly fortuitous opportunity to show she has the mettle to be POTUS in 2028. A golden opportunity even.
Her failure to take advantage, right now, reveals a lot about her.
But thats just me.
Hey! Maybe I should run for the White House in 2028?
Of course, the first thing I'd do if elected would be to burn the place down as it's nothing more than a whorehouse, where money will buy anything.
A house of ill repute should not stand in a true Christian country. Where are all these supposed Christians?
No one in America is going to heaven.

from Simplicius:

https://simplicius76.substack.com/p/true-promise-3-iran-responds-with

Iran launched the next stage of their True Promise 3.0 operation, targeting various sites of Israeli energy and military infrastructure. This time it reportedly included the latest Fattah-1 hypersonic missiles, which made quite the dazzling impact all over Tel Aviv and northern Israel—a sight so spectacular it is rivaled only by last year’s Oreshnik strikes:

of those missiles. They are incredibly fast.
If the western military world were just half as smart as they think themselves to be, they should be shitting their pants and looking for a way outta this.
I want to remind those at the Pentagon that even they are vulnerable now. Their lives are back on the line, just like early in their grunt careers.
They should really consider their options.

Where I fill up the price has been floating between $4.29-$4.35 for the last few months but I expect that will change soon. And not for the better. Even though I don't drive a lot and I'm driving a hybrid and can go close to 600 miles on a tank of gas I'm not looking forward to any increase in price. Sure glad I ditched the gas guzzler for a hybrid a few years back.

But opted for something that didn't enrich big oil and would never require fuel.
We remember well the odd/even routine of the 70s. The long lines just to get to the pumps, even when you still had plenty of gas in the tank were infuriating. We were always concerned about running out of gas while in line, or the station would run out of fuel before you got through the line.
Our first taste of "range anxiety", long before the electric car.
For the record, I did a study on my range/expenses, and it come in at 3.5 cents a mile in electricity when new.
I haven't checked it lately, but I would expect it to have changed some.
YMMV.
Thanks for the price check. California?

Fat old double punching fingers. Sorry 'bout that.
But as an aside to gas prices, I'm paying 8+ cents a kwh for electricity here in Vancouver, and 6+ at the farm in Lewis County.

https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2025/06/17/749977/operations-so-far-only-w...

In a stern and strongly-worded warning to the Israeli regime and its Western backers on Tuesday, Iran’s top military commander said the “punitive operations” will be carried out soon.

Major General Sayyid Abdolrahim Mousavi, the newly-elected Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, in a televised message, said the operations carried out so far since Friday have served as a deterrent warning, and the actual punitive operations will be executed soon.

He said the Zionist regime, in an act of aggression disguised as military goals, has in recent days attacked the people of Iran, including women, children and the elderly.

He said the regime has disregarded all recognized international laws, and after killing some 300 journalists in Gaza and Lebanon, has now launched a savage assault on the media professionals of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) to silence the voice of truth.

“The great nation of Iran, as history shows, has never bowed to any aggression, and, while standing firm against this savage act, will make the Zionist regime pay for its crimes, God willing,” he declared.

“By God’s power, the martyrdom of our dear compatriots, scientists and commanders of the armed forces, will only strengthen our resolve to carry out a punishing reprisal.”

Major General Mousavi further stated that so far, since Friday, the IRGC aerospace force and the air-defense Headquarters, are at the front line with support from the Army, the IRGC, the Law-Enforcement Command and the Ministry of Defense, and together they have “inflicted heavy blows on the enemy by striking sensitive and vital targets.”

However, he added that the operations conducted so far have only been a warning for deterrence, the punitive operations will be carried out shortly.

He also warned the settlers of the occupied territories, especially Tel Aviv and Haifa, to immediately leave these areas to save their lives and “not sacrifice themselves to Netanyahu’s animalistic desires.”

“Let the free peoples of the world rest assured: the great nation of Iran, led by its armed forces, will avenge the blood of the martyrs—God willing, by His power,” he declared.

Gotta remember they still haven't returned to the northern territories that Hezbollah drove them from.
And the exodus continues out of Israel itself.

https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/5354353-menendez-report-pri...

Former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) reported to a federal prison in Pennsylvania on Tuesday to begin an 11-year sentence following his conviction on bribery and other corruption charges.

The New Jersey Democrat was found guilty last year on all 16 counts, including that he accepted bribes from three New Jersey businessmen in exchange for his political clout and that he acted as a foreign agent of Egypt.

Menendez was in custody Tuesday at the Federal Correctional Institution Schuylkill, according to the Bureau of Prisons, a facility in Minersville, Pa., that has both a medium and minimum-security prison and is less than three hours from his New Jersey home. It houses roughly 1,200 inmates.

One week reduced sentence for every DC crook he fingers and gets convicted.
Of course, the weeks earned could out strip his sentence, being DC and all.

By Sunday night, Trump posted to Truth Social, ordering ICE “to do all in their power to achieve the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.” The next morning, ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations division held an 11 a.m. call with 30 field offices nationwide. The message: resume raids immediately—including at farms, hotels, and meat plants.
