"Obama’s Iran deal was working. It was working. Iran was still challenging US/Israeli hegemony in the region, but it wasn’t building a nuke and was following the rules. And Trump shredded it to start all this shit. It was never about nukes, it’s about dominating the middle east."

News and Opinion
We Are, Of Course, Being Lied To About Iran
Iran and Israel are at war, with the US already intimately involved and likely to become more so. Which of course means we’ll be spending the foreseeable future getting bashed in the face with lies from the most powerful people in the world.
The most immediately obvious of these is the Netanyahu-promoted narrative that Israel initiated this conflict because Iran was on the brink of developing a nuclear weapon. With absolutely no self-consciousness or sense of irony, the Israeli prime minister followed the attacks with a statement accusing Iran of “genocidal rhetoric” which it has backed up “with a program to develop nuclear weapons.” Israel, as we all know, has an unacknowledged nuclear arsenal, and its leaders are presently committing genocide in Gaza while spouting genocidal rhetoric.
“And if not stopped, Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in a very short time,” Netanyahu claimed. “It could be a year. It could be within a few months — less than a year. This is a clear and present danger to Israel’s very survival.”
The western political/media class have been dutifully promoting this line and uncritically parroting Israel’s claim that its unprovoked attack on Iran was “preemptive”, but there is absolutely no evidence that any of this is true.
Benjamin Netanyahu has spent literally decades falsely claiming that Iran was a year or two away from developing a nuke, only to have the calendar prove him wrong with the passage of time over and over again.
US intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard testified just weeks ago that “The IC [Intelligence Community] continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program he suspended in 2003.”
As journalist Séamus Malekafzali recently noted on Twitter, one of the strongest arguments that Iran had not reversed its decision to refrain from obtaining nuclear weapons is that Iranian nuclear scientists have been publicly expressing frustration about the fact that their government won’t allow them to construct a nuke. They want to do it, but Tehran won’t let them.
Hegseth: Iran is "moving their way toward something that would look a lot like a nuclear weapon"

— Michael Tracey (@mtracey) June 12, 2025
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth helped pave the way for Netanyahu’s claims this past Wednesday when he told the Senate that “there have been plenty of indications” Iran has been “moving their way toward something that would look a lot like a nuclear weapon.”
This claim by Hegseth was swiftly scooped up and promoted by warmongers like Tom Cotton who said that Hegseth had “confirmed that Iran’s terrorist regime is actively working towards a nuclear weapon.”
Cotton’s claim was then picked up by war pundit Mark Levin, who has been personally lobbying Trump to green light an attack on Iran, sarcastically quipping on Twitter, “So, SecDef Hegseth must by lying, too. Everyone’s lying except the isolationists, Koch-heads, Islamists, Chatsworth Qatarlson and their media propagandists.”
But let’s back up and look at what Hegseth actually said. He did not say “Iran is building a nuclear weapon.” He said “there have been plenty of indications” Iran has been “moving their way toward something that would look a lot like a nuclear weapon.”
If the US had intelligence that Iran was building a nuke, Hegseth would have just said so. But instead he performed this freakish verbal gymnastics stunt muttering about indications of something that might kinda sorta look like a nuclear weapon, which his fellow Iran hawks then falsely took and ran with as a positive assertion that Iran was building a nuke.

Lies Used To Justify War On Iraq Get Reused To Wage War On Iranhttps://t.co/P89s8NYOj8 pic.twitter.com/xO50DfRpTq— Moon of Alabama (@MoonofA) June 14, 2025
There are other lies being circulated to help market this war as well. As Moon of Alabama notes, the Washington Post’s odious war propagandist David Ignatius is pushing the narrative that Iran has been cultivating a relationship with de-facto al-Qaeda leader Saif al-Adel. The lie that Saddam Hussein was in league with al-Qaeda was used two decades ago to sell the invasion of Iraq.
At the same time, Trumpian pundits are currently circulating the narrative that the United States is full of Iranian “sleeper cells” who could activate at any moment and begin attacking Americans. The most egregious of these is Laura Loomer’s repeated claims that there are “millions” of such cells awaiting Iran’s orders to strike — possibly the single most bat shit insane claim I have ever seen anyone with any major platform make, since it would mean a very sizable percentage of the US population is actually a secret Iranian proxy army.
The fountain of lies is just getting started. There will be more. Believe nothing unless it is substantiated by mountains of evidence. These freaks have been caught lying to sell wars to the public far too many times for any of their claims to be taken on faith.
Iran Strikes Continue, Israel's Plan & AD Falter, Asks US Join War; Putin Slams Trump In Angry Call
Israel and Iran broaden strikes during third day of escalating war
Israel and Iran have broadened their strikes against each other on the third day of an escalating war that has killed and injured hundreds of people, as Donald Trump called for an end to the conflict and warned Tehran against striking US targets in the region. G7 leaders flying to Canada for a summit that starts on Monday are likely to try to use their time with the US president to urge him to keep the US out of the conflict and use his influence with Israel to broker a ceasefire.
Trump claimed he was working behind the scenes on a deal. “We will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran!” he said in a post on his Truth Social platform. “Many calls and meetings now taking place. I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand.”
His envoys face a challenge that appears to be deepening by the day, however, with Israel and Iran widening their attacks, and the casualty tolls rising. Israel attacked Iran’s energy industry and defence ministry on Saturday night, leaving a fuel depot ablaze through the night outside Tehran. It followed with evacuation warnings to civilians living near arms factories and on Sunday launched a rare daytime raid on the capital.
Iran fired at least 70 missiles towards Israel and several evaded air defences. They hit a refinery in the north, killed four people in a Palestinian-majority town near the Sea of Galilee and brought down part of a high-rise apartment block in Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv. It was the heaviest missile barrage the country has faced, and the damage was shocking to many Israelis. Despite enduring years of rockets from Gaza and Lebanon, and months of missiles fired from Yemen by the Houthis, none of those groups could deploy the scale or destructive power of the Iranian attacks. ...
Netanyahu has made no secret of his desire for regime change and on Sunday told Fox News that it “could certainly be the result” of the Israeli campaign. Trump has been more wary, and his administration vetoed a recent Israeli plan to kill the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israel briefed the White House on the “credible” plan for assassination, but it was rejected by Americans as a dangerous escalation.
European leaders to press Trump on Israel-Iran strategy at G7 meeting
European leaders gathering for a G7 summit with Donald Trump in the Canadian Rockies plan to spend the opening day asking Trump to justify his confidence that Israel and Iran will make a deal that will mean “peace soon”.
As the military exchanges worsen and the death toll mounts on both sides, European leaders are intending to pin the US president down on his whole Iran strategy, including getting a definitive response on whether he will use his influence over Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to call a ceasefire, or instead let the war run its course.
Trump’s largely unsubstantiated remarks about “peace soon” suggest he believes a ceasefire could be imminent, even though Jerusalem appears determined to wipe out not just Iran’s nuclear programme but its entire security apparatus. ...
It is possible that the G7 collectively will issue a joint statement calling for de-escalation, but there are differences of emphasis between the leaders on how far to support Israel’s attack, with Germany the most supportive and Japan the most critical.
The Israel-Iran hostilities – and their potential to upend the world economy – have at least initially usurped the G7 summit agenda, which had been set to be dominated by disputes over the war in Ukraine and US tariffs.

Tehran accuses Israel of seeking to expand conflict after attack on gas facility
Iran’s foreign minister has accused Israel of seeking to expand the war beyond Iran by attacking a major gas facility in Bushehr province on the Gulf coast. Speaking to diplomats in his first public appearance since the initial Israeli strikes, Abbas Araghchi said: “Dragging the conflict into the Persian Gulf is a strategic mistake and its goal is to drag the war outside Iranian territory. Any military development in this region can affect the entire world.”
He was referring to the strike on a facility operating at South Pars, located offshore near Iran’s southern Bushehr province. The field supplies about 70% of Iran’s domestic natural gas. The South Pars/North Dome mega-field is the largest known gas reserve in the world. Iran, which shares the field with Qatar, has been developing its side since the late 1990s.
Iranian media reported on Saturday a “massive explosion” and fire after an Israeli drone targeted one of the South Pars facilities. Araghchi added that Iran blamed the US for allowing Israel to start the war with Iran, but at present its conflict was confined to Israel, and Iran would not expand it to neighbouring countries, or to US facilities.
“Over the past two days, we have received messages from the US through various channels claiming that they were not and will not be involved in this attack,” he said. “However, we do not believe this claim, because we have evidence to the contrary.

Israeli Attacks Kill Key Iranian US-Nuclear Negotiator
Israel’s large-scale military attack on Iran early Friday targeted and killed an official who was leading a committee on nuclear talks with the United States, a decision that observers and Iranian officials said was clearly designed to undercut progress toward a diplomatic agreement.
Ali Shamkhani, whose home was among those attacked by Israel on Friday, was a top aide to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and had expressed optimism in recent weeks about the prospect of improved relations with the U.S. as President Donald Trump signaled he was open to a deal.
“If the Americans act as they say, for sure we can have better relations,” Shamkhani told NBC News last month. “It can lead to a better situation in the near future.”
This is reportedly the residence of Ali Shamkhani's house: the top floor(s) of a 11-storey apartment tower in northern Tehran. It appeared to have been targeted during the first wave of strikes, in the early morning. https://t.co/aj4ngV6ZLk pic.twitter.com/VazrXcuewj

Hundreds of Thousands form 'Red Line' Around the Hague
Hundreds of thousands of people dressed in red marched through the streets of The Hague on Sunday to demand more action against the "genocide" in Gaza.
NGOs such as Amnesty International, Save the Children, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), and Oxfam organized the demonstration, which ran through the city to the International Court of Justice. The protesters were all dressed in red, creating a "red line".
Organisers described it as the country's largest demonstration in two decades. Many waving Palestinian flags and some chanting "Stop the Genocide", the demonstrators turned a central park in the city into a sea of red on a sunny afternoon.
“The Dutch cabinet still refuses to draw a red line. That is why we do it, for as long as necessary,” Marjon Rozema of Amnesty International Netherlands said in a statement.
Protesters walked a 5-kilometer loop around the city center of The Hague to symbolically create the red line that the government has failed to set.
And what a red line it is!!!

Millions across US turn out for ‘No Kings’ protests against Donald Trump
As tanks and soldiers paraded through the streets of Washington on Saturday, several million people around the country turned out to protest against the excesses of Donald Trump’s administration. The protests, dubbed “No Kings”, took place at about 2,100 sites nationwide, from big cities to small towns. A coalition of more than 100 groups joined together to plan the protests, which are committed to a principle of nonviolence.
This week, the president has deployed national guard and US marine troops to Los Angeles to crack down on protesters who have demonstrated against his ramped-up deportations, defying state and local authorities in a show of military force that hasn’t been seen in the US since the civil rights era. Interest in the Saturday protests rose as a result, organizers said, including at a site near Trump’s south Florida Mar-a-Lago estate.
No Kings organizers estimated the day’s events drew millions of people, with some hundreds still under way in all 50 states and to some cities abroad. These included more than 200,000 in New York and over 100,000 in Philadelphia, plus some small towns with sizable crowds for their populations, including the town of Pentwater, Michigan, which saw 400 people join the protest in their 800-person town, the No Kings coalition said. The protests were largely peaceful, though some – in Los Angeles and Portland – were later deemed unlawful assembly by law enforcement and met with teargas.
The tenor of the day was also marked by political violence. There were two early morning shootings of two Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota, one of whom was killed along with her husband, in what local officials called a politically motivated attack. The state’s police and governor cautioned people to not attend demonstrations across the state “out of an abundance of caution”.
Many thousands of people still turned up at the main protest in Minnesota, at the state capitol, to make it clear that political violence wouldn’t silence them. Crowds stretched for blocks as people carried signs against Trump, and some that mentioned the names of the lawmakers who were shot. On the main stage, organizers mentioned the tragedy, saying how it strengthened their resolve and underscored the importance of gathering together.

Dave Smith: IMPEACH Trump Over War With Iran
The sea, the great unifier, is man’s only hope … and we are all in the same boat.” So said Jacques Cousteau, the French explorer, oceanographer and pioneering film-maker, who notably pivoted from merely sharing his underwater world to sounding the alarm over its destruction. Half a century later, David Attenborough, a year shy of his 100th birthday, followed Cousteau’s trajectory. In the naturalist’s acclaimed new film, Ocean, which highlights the destructive fishing practice of bottom trawling, he says he has come to the realisation that the “most important place on Earth is not on land but at sea”.
This message, backed by undeniable indicators of poor ocean health, has boosted calls for more ocean governance and protection. The mood at this week’s UN ocean summit in Nice, which ended on Friday, was that if ever there was a defining “moment” for the ocean, it was happening here, in France’s Côte d’Azur. But there was also a sense of this sentiment being shared in the wider world, where, partly thanks to the summit, many are finally waking up the reality of the serious decline of something that makes up more than 70% of the Earth’s surface. ...
But what, with the eyes of the watching world, was actually achieved for the future health of oceans? The most important accomplishment was that enough countries either ratified or formally committed to ratifying the high seas treaty. Once ratified, this agreement will help achieve an agreed global target of protecting 30% of the world’s seas by 2030. It will provide the first legal mechanism for the creation of protected areas in the high seas, international waters that cover almost two-thirds of the ocean. The treaty is expected to now come into force by 1 January 2026.
Flash floods in West Virginia kill three people with others missing
Flash flooding caused by torrential rains killed three people in northern West Virginia and rescue crews were searching for missing people on Sunday, while authorities were assessing damage to roads, bridges, natural gas lines and other infrastructure.
Officials said 2.5-4in (6-10cm) of rain fell in parts of Wheeling and Ohio county within about a half hour on Saturday night.
“We almost immediately started getting 911 calls for rescue of people being trapped,” Lou Vargo, Ohio county’s emergency management director, said at a news conference on Sunday. “During this time we had major infrastructure damage to roads, bridges and highways where we couldn’t respond to a lot of incidents. So we were delayed in getting there because there was just so much damage.”
Vargo added: “It happened so quickly and so fast … I’ve been doing this for 35 years. I’ve seen major floods here in the city and the county. I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Thanks for the news again, Joe. You have been writing about it for over 20 years and it never seems to run out.
I wonder how long the truth about Israel’s economy can be covered up. Even if its allies can offer some economic relief the fact remains that businesses have closed and the eliat port has gone bankrupt. It will take decades to recover from that.
This guy sums up how I feel.
Israel f****d around and now it is finding out
I read a couple articles on the Times of Israel and Israelis are upset that Iran is killing them or that they have to spend so much time in bomb shelters in their apartment complexes or ones that they have to go outside to get to.
One Israel’s cities is where a lot of Arabs live. A bomb killed 4 Arab women and Israelis were cheering it. But when they are targeted they cry that it’s unfair.
I’ve seen more sites saying that Iran has shot down 2-3 F-35 jets with 2 Israeli pilots captured. One is a woman.

evening snoopy...
20 years? it feels like i've been chronicling the decline and fall of western civilization, if it ever existed as such.
israel's economy is screwed. i'm not sure how they're going to put the pieces back together after losing so much population and being in need of repairing so many things. they might find that donations from rich americans taper off after the shooting stops. investments in war making are more appealing to rich people than developing a country. on top of that, they may find that not as many people find trading with them appealing after being the butchers of the world.
Not just the population
Infrastructure too. I call this “catch me if you can.”
It might have been shown before since it’s 22 hours old, but damn!!….that’s fast.
A THAAD defense missile cost $12.5 million. If 2 missiles are shot at each missile from Iran we’re talking big bucks. And one system was taken out when Iran bombed Israel’s pentagon. That probably means that Americans were killed in the strike. And Larry Johnson says that we don’t/can’t make many a year.
Trump just sent the Nimitz to the area. 2 aircraft carriers and lots of refueling planes. Looks like we are entering the war.

[Late Nighters] As long as people think protests matter...
.
.... in the US, nothing of any significance will happen that will deactivate the criminally insane Neocons from depopulating the US and setting it up for climate destruction. Nor will protests stop these Western psychopaths from triggering planetary-annihilation in order to stop socialism and communism from gaining a foothold.
In my view, protests are a colossal, low-IQ, waste of time, especially when you already know who the global psychopaths are and where they are located. It just puts protestors on the kill list. (I remember when I thought this was a paranoid delusion. Boy, was I clueless back then.)
If we are not incarcerating these criminally insane State actors in mental institutions, everything else we do is completely pointless. This has been the case since World War II. Instead, we are electing them as our leaders, over and over again. So, I guess that makes "People-Who-Cannot-Think" the actual doomsday machine.
I abhor the nonsense about end-times that the far-right Christo-fascists are successfully engineering and selling to the US masses right in front of our faces — tax free — while we do nothing. In fact, I think the dumb-and-dumber masses are actually eager to adapt to the new dystopia (while praying to be Raptured with all their might). Anything. Anything... just as long as they don't have to look directly at reality.
Meanwhile, the average American dies five years before the average Chinese person. The average Chinese consumes twice as much protein daily as the average USian — because USians can no longer afford to buy quality protein. (The US middle class secretly prays that affordable eggs will come back again. Not a chance. Forget about it.)
People alive today in China will very like enjoy healthy productive lifespans of 125 to 150 years — due to the scientific longevity breakthroughs that China has made just this year, alone. (Questions? Ask DeepSeek about it. Do I sound like an A.I.?) Extended healthy lives is one of the new goals of the People's Republic of China — and whenever the Chinese set a Goal, they usually achieve it before the deadline, no matter how awesome and ambitious it is. So far this year, they have all but conquered Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, diabetes, several cancers snd several types of heart disease, and are putting paraplegics back on their feet again by properly slicing their spinal cords. This is "Made in Chinas 2025" — a goal that was announced in 2020. This is what put the US on its current war path. Once or twice a week since Chinese New Year 2025, China makes sn announcement that catapults them a decade ahead of the US in science and technology. Their achievements in energy production and climate mitigation — this year alone — are absolutely breathtaking. (Although I now firmly believe that the Western Psychopaths will probably succeed in killing the planet before the Chinese can rescue it. We will know soon enough.)
Meanwhile, Western imbeciles are counting on a demographic CRISIS in China, that will flood China with a bloated population of aged and feeble Chinese elders to care for. The imbeciles are praying to their 'right-hemisphere-echo-chamber-brain-god' to deliver a civilization-destroying demographic crisis that will hamstring China for the next century. This, so they can use their weapons to become the global top-gun once more — intellectually, creatively, scientifically, and economically. Hahahaha! It's comical when you think about how delusional the Western brain really is.
Now, personally, I completely cede the United States to the Neocons. They won the isolated, out-of-touch, US colony fair and square — in the Corruption Pit that the US has become. Of course, the joke's on them. The gun-toting, Red Dawn-delusional US is a booby prize of immense proportion.

Americans had learned much from repeatedly getting lied into wars. Some have wised up, but doesn't look like a critical mass. Still, getting the likes of Ilhan Omar and Marjorie Taylor Green on the same page about something has to be accounted some sort of plus,
Have been reading Gore Vidal's American Empire series of historical novels about, well, American history. Inadvertently skipped the 2nd to last (chronologically) in the series - which runs Burr, Lincoln, 1876, Empire, Washington, D.C., and finally the one I am on now - The Golden Age.
All highly recommended. And just today was reading about how Roosevelt (FDR) while professing to want to stay out of direct participation in the war against Germany, (80% of Americans were opposed) was secretly maneuvering to get into it the back way by provoking Japan to attack the US.
It works, Pearl Harbor happens and all opposition to the war magically disappears.
Well, almost did - Jeanette Rankin - 1st female member of Congress was among 50 who voted against war with Germany in WW I and was the only vote against it in 1941. Funny how her name never seemed to come up when they were talking about putting a woman on a bill to replace Andrew Jackson...
Anyway, today is the 80th anniversary of the firebombing (actually the 2nd one) of my adopted city. Probably 2000 people killed in a single night, most burned to death. Woman I know and was talking with today survived carried on her mother's back because her mother (pregnant at the time) was able to flee through burning streets to a small river - the fire so intense that the baby's hair had caught fire.
City was bombed repeatedly - my wife's mother survived a naval bombardment of the factory she was working at by US and British battleships only a couple weeks before Japan surrendered.
Very few young people are aware of any of this though...
