Doctorow based on Financial Times article claims no proximate UK/US intel linkage to Ukrainian attacks on Russian strategic bomber bases. (The FT article is behind a paywall). He admits upfront that FT is not usually an unbiased source. I'll note that FT is owned by Nikkei.

Prof. Gilbert Doctorow : What the Kremlin Thinks.

In one of the comments on the Doctorow youtube interview by the Judge, one of the viewers notes Doctorow's lack of credentials as a military analyst. I think that Doctorow fails to distinguish between the tactical dimensions of drone warfare development on the battlefield, and the necessity for precise and timely targeting information, which cannot be derived from short ranged drones, in a strategic dimension without divulging the operational plan. The presence of reconnaissance drones flying in the immediate area of strategic bases would have been an operational indicator of an imminent drone attack. In fact, it would have alerted the Russians to the forthcoming attack and made the possibility of a successful Ukrainian drone attack mission less likely. imo. On the other hand, the US routinely monitors these bases and is aware of their status on a timely strategic basis as a matter of national security. This obviates the need for Ukraine to take unnecessary operational risks threatening the success of the Ukrainian attacks on the strategic bases.

I believe based on this below from NPR (May 29) that Trump did know:

MARTIN: So let's just start by digging in on Trump's statements. We just heard the president briefly. Remind us, what has he been saying?

MAYNES: You know, this began with Trump expressing anger over Russia's intense bombing of cities across Ukraine over the weekend. Trump initially said Putin had gone absolutely crazy and threatened potential sanctions. That was on Sunday. Two days later, Trump reminded Moscow that if it hadn't been for him, quote, "really bad things would have already happened to Russia," and he warned Putin he was playing with fire. And then yesterday, Trump said he was disappointed that Russia had continued attacks while negotiations were ongoing. Yet, on this issue of hitting Russia with new sanctions or some other response, Trump made clear he's not there yet.

(SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING)

TRUMP: If I think I'm close to getting a deal, I don't want to screw it up by doing that. Let me tell you, I'm a lot tougher than the people you're talking about, but you have to know when to use that.

This doesn't mean he authorized it, as it seems he was trying to hold this off at the time. I think the issue of organizational and management incompetence inside the administration is well understood. This allows vested interests to prevail and pretty much do what they want. I don't think like Doctorow, that the Judge's other guests are hysterical pandora's exaggerating the outrageous risks of strategic war breaking out from incompetent US leadership. Also, Europe can talk about increasing military output all they want they are restricted by their fractious politics, divided militaries, divided production facilities, declining economies, and skilled labor shortages.

East Asian expert says:

Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський
@ZelenskyyUa
Today, the Russians have once again used ballistic missiles from North Korea. We are also tracking evidence that Russian-Iranian drone technologies have spread to North Korea. This is extremely dangerous both for Europe and for East and Southeast Asia.

The longer this war continues on our territory, the more warfare technologies evolve, and the greater the threat will be to everyone.

This must be addressed now, not when thousands of upgraded Shahed drones and ballistic missiles begin to threaten Seoul and Tokyo.

Elensky is worried about Seoul and Tokyo. What's next Ukraine's analysis of the Taiwan Straits?

I listened to a number of pro-Ukrainian/anti-Russian analysts (this doesn't necessarily include Doctorow, I just happen to disagree with him in respect to his analysis above) lately, and they seem to be living on another planet.

I happen to agree with this opinion by Hedges-

Admittedly, the Ukies aren't reliable or credible sources but sometimes one can use their admissions to implicate others. After their raid, they published some propaganda braggadocio concerning same and all their planning for it which was accompanied by a picture of Ukie staff studying assorted intel including (a) sat photo(s). Ukiestan no tiene nada de satellitos; Q.E.D. Arguably, the NATOids might have gifted them an old U-2 at some point since 2014, but the RUS have a proven capability to bring them down since 1960, and if anybody is still flying Blackbirds it would be good old uncle samuel so we still get guilt by photo of photo.

grief - had some mystery crashes and such myself the past couple of days. Here we went from a warm spell back to cooler weather leaving me trying to remember if this is "normal" or not.

I see that "investment" fund managers are already petitioning for a special crve out from the effects of the Big Beautiful Bill lest its implementation might decrease their funds value and trading price and, possibly even, god forbid, the market as a whole, Nothing is sadder that Wealthy hypocrites whining. Ah well.

Hope you get things all squared away soon.

Time of year to get out and do chores early. Been tending to some of the little things.

About time to eat a bite. Hope the old computer co-operates, and the site speeds up a bit.

All the best, and thanks for the OT.

The best way to fight back against what Trump is doing with the military rollout is for people to go home until it’s gone. I know….we have the right to protest, but how many instigators are in the crowd stirring the shit up so that the military gets to take the gloves off? Or go to cities where there are no military.

I can’t remember who suggested this, but when the violence starts people just sit down and don’t engage. And go home at night because that’s where a lot of mayhem happens.

A lot of the burning cars and attacks on businesses videos are from years ago.

And let’s not forget that Obama also sent federal troops into Ferguson in 2014.

I can’t remember if Joe posted this last night but it’s one of the best explanations of the Palantir plan going back to 1992 that was cooked up by Richard Perle which was called total information awareness that congress refused to fund. Now it’s being done by a private contractor.

I am debating whether it is best for me to avoid town on Saturday during the No kings protest, or stay at my office and protect it if violence and looting breaks out.
My office is on the block adjacent to the courthouse where the protest will take place.
Lots to consider.
Thanks for the OT under such stress, friend!

has already activated the National Guard for San Antonio. So I suspect that there will be a lot of heavily-militarized cops about all over the country, in their SWAT gear and with their steroid supplements cranked to the max, all agog to kill something.

I'm personally avoiding all of these protests. While I agree with the sentiment, I've seen too many cases where agents provocateurs have made situations go from tolerable to life-threatening in a flash, such as the BLM protests here in Denver. And our cops are as trigger-happy as any of 'em.

My wife and some friends went to a protest outside Lauren Boebert's carpetbagging "residence" here in Douglas County, CO last weekend. There is, of course, no evidence that she's ever darkened the doorway there: "residence" is a legal fiction. But I could easily have seen the police laying in wait for the insurrectionists (since the current definition of "insurrectionist" has apparently now been changed to "anyone da gummint does not like"), and declined to participate.

Be careful out there. The stage has already been set for bloodshed. There will be many people who will find themselves guilty until proven innocent, according to some riot cop that is fearing for his life, in the coming days. The only questions remaining are "where?" and "how much?"

@usefewersyllables decades.
Nowadays, protests or organized by social media, emails, texts, cell phones, and so on, all of which are observed by the opposition and the FBI. I read that an FBI undercover agent had been arrested and, of course, released, in LA but cannot verify it. You have no idea who your actually communicating with when you send out the plans. Every protest stands the excellent chance of being infiltrated. People get paid to protest. The whole idea of peaceful protests has become almost obsolete. Boycotting is way, way more effective if it can be applied to the situation or circumstance.
Bud Light would agree.

and agree. My caution applies not towards protesting, but towards being close enough to a protest to become collateral damage, e.g. in the case of you going in to protect your office. Those SWAT guys can’t aim for shit. (;-)

@usefewersyllables Both the mayor and county sheriff are my clients and also close friends for decades. They will be watching, and will call me if things go awry. I will check with them and the County Judge to see if I should stay there or stay home. Everyone is communicating and working with everyone else.
