The Weekly Watch

We all share the same mitochondrial DNA...we are a human family. We get our mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell) from our mother. It is like a symbiotic bacteria in our cells.
In 1987, studies of mitochondrial DNA (which tracks maternal ancestry), suggested that all human beings were descendants of one woman who may have lived in Africa about 200,000 years ago.
We also have other mothers in common. We all live on Mother Earth and in Mother Nature. This week we'll take a break from the news and honor Mothers...

Mother Earth
Carl Sagan - Pale Blue Dot
(3.5 min) The first comment below the clip...
I grew up in poverty in South Korea during the 70s. I must have been about 10 or 11 years old when I watched Carl Sagan's Cosmos on our tiny TV and it made a huge impression on me. I remember saving money to buy the book, translated into Korean, which I still own. I ended up migrating to Australia and eventually completed a PhD in theoretical physics. Thank you, Carl, for inspiring a young person so far away. It seems we were also connected to each other on this tiny blue dot.
We are a star ship, and our star is the sun. The sun powers our planet in many ways and on many levels. Stars are atom generators as they fuse (in our sun's case) hydrogen into helium. As stars age the fusion sequences changes and eventually stars create all the elements of the periodic table.

Our sun is main sequence star developing along the lower track toward a white dwarf where iron is generated. The heavier elements are thought to come from supernovas.
We, and everything around us, are stardust. As Joni wrote:

Back to the Garden.
We live on a dynamic planet that is always in flux. It may be that we are experiencing a magnetic reversal. We even saw an aurora here in Alabama for the first time in my memory. These colors in the sky are an interaction of Earth's magnetic field and the charged particles of the solar wind.
We learned that the magnetic field reversed from looking at the iron laden rock on the seafloor. It recorded those reversals and led to the discovery of seafloor spreading.

The magnetic fields are mirrored on both sides of the spreading center. This was a primary piece of evidence leading to the understanding of plate tectonics. The idea that pieces of the earth's crust move around the planet.

Understanding these movements provides an understanding of mountain building, volcanoes, ocean formation, and continental growth from terranes.

All this is driven by the heat within the planet forming giant convection currents.

The internal heat of Earth is thought to be from meteor collisions, friction of deep plate movement, and radioactivity.
We are a unique planet because we have water in all three phases...solid, liquid, and gas. The changes from phase to phase also change the Earth. Today about 70% of Earth's surface are ocean. In fact when seen from space our planet might be better named, Ocean. Water's phase changes shape Earth's surface.

The water cycle drives an endless cycle of erosion and deposition.

The Earth changes in many ways. The axis on which the Earth spins also shifts, and may be a reason for the coming and going of ice ages.

During an ice age, the water is frozen on the land surface and ocean levels are low. Sea level rises as the ice sheets melt.

Add life to the dynamic changes to our physical world and we really have change.
Mother Nature

What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the winter time. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.
Chief Crowfoot (1830 – 1890)
Our lives are so short, these Earth scale changes are imperceptible.
In geologic time, ecosystems come and go along with the lifeforms.
The valley I look over was once an ocean community.

Full of ancient starfish relatives.
The mountain top was a forest of Fern and Moss Trees.

Some of which were compressed into coal. Some were petrified as large fossils.
Despite the fact we know ecological change is inevitable, we can work with nature to improve what we have degraded. Here in Alabama our soils were eroded due to decades of cotton with its slow growth and wide rows. As a soil scientist, I see soils as key. We used to speak of sustainable agriculture. Now the term has changed to regenerative agriculture...the idea that we improve the health of the system rather than just maintain it. Of course the terms have changed throughout my lifetime: organic agriculture, biodynamic agriculture, permaculture, agroecology, holistic management and so on. They all encompass the idea of taking care of our soils and the land...leaving Soil, earth, healthier than we found it.
Humans have interacted with the planet, first as hunter gathers, and then as farmers. This is our intimate relationship with Mother Earth...it is even called husbandry or sometimes stewardship. No one has done more to promote sane stewardship than the lunatic farmer Joel Salatin.
(66 min) Few things are more valuable in life than the food we eat and the soil that grows it. So today, we have the great honor of talking with Joel Salatin. Named "the most famous farmer in America", Joel has spent his career advocating for sustainable farming practices, and pioneering models that show how food can be grown & raised in ways that:
are regenerative to our topsoils
are more humane to livestock
produce much healthier, tastier food
contribute profitably to the local economy
Who wouldn't want that?
Well, the government and Big Ag for starters.
Joel refers to himself a "lunatic farmer" because so many of the changes he thinks our food systems need are either illegal under current law or mightily resisted by the deep-pocketed corporations controlling production and distribution.
But that doesn't stop him from his passion of inspiring others to take a better path. He co-owns and operates, with his family, Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Featured in the New York Times bestseller Omnivore’s Dilemma and award-winning documentary Food Inc., the farm services more than 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets, and a farmers’ market with produce and pastured beef, pork, poultry, as well as forestry products. On the farm, Joel and his staff pilot new practices, mentor young farmers, educate the public, and produce an excellent set of workshops for those looking to truly 'get their hands dirty' learning how to farm sustainably.
He's a true hero to many, including me. And I predict he'll be one of yours, too, by the end of this discussion.
Allan Savory was the first to educate people of the power of grazing ruminants, and their ability to restore ecosystems. His famous 22 minute TED Talk revealed his work.
(47 min) Running out of Time | Documentary on Holistic Management https://savory.global/
Savory says, ruminants (any animal that feeds on grass) should be kept in tight herds in small sections of pasture and moved frequently—as soon as the forage has been lightly clipped but not destroyed. Timing is critical. After being browsed by the animals, the plants draw
on nutrients stored in their roots to regrow leaves, and that new foliage provides energy that allows the plants to replenish their root systems. Overgrazing occurs if livestock feed again before this cycle runs its course, which can happen even with traditional rotational practices. The root systems weaken, eventually causing the plants to die. In regenerative grazing, animals return to an area only after the vegetation has fully recovered.
...
Savory says his theory of livestock management replicates—and aims to restore—an ancient cycle. The original vegetation of the world’s grasslands co-evolved with enormous herds of Cape buffalo, elephants, bison and other large grazers. These animals stayed in compact herds to protect themselves against predators and moved often to find grass unsullied by their urine and dung. Because they grazed for only a short time in any area, the forage plants rebounded rapidly, fertilized and watered by the animals' excrement. Their hooves trampled desiccated and inedible plants, thus increasing sunlight and nutrients for “good” vegetation and breaking up hard soil crusts, creating conditions conducive to water infiltration and seed germination. The crushed leaves and stalks from less desirable plants provided natural mulch that retained soil moisture and prevented runoff during rainstorms. The livestock’s excrement added nutrients to the soil and further improved its ability to retain water. In turn, better soil produced bigger and thicker grasses that could support more animals. Better soil also harbored more carbon.
...
Savory insists that raising livestock is the only practical way to combat environmental destruction and global warming. “Humans have no ability to sequester atmospheric gases in the soils without livestock,” he says. “We have only one option if we are serious about climate change. It cannot be done with current technology—nor any technology we can imagine. We have to change the public attitude from vilifying livestock to vilifying the current reductionist livestock-management practices.”

Savory’s transformative methods in action in the bone-dry Karoo region of South Africa: The land on the left side of this fence line started out as bare ground and small desert bushes several decades ago. The neighboring land on the right remained under conventional management over the same period.
Allan Savory has used cows to restore degraded African savanna and increased water retention, native wildlife, and tourism as a result.
Allen Williams makes a compelling case that grazing ruminant animals are needed to regenerate our soils...

Our mulched garden hasn't been plowed on over 35 years. However I did subsoil over each bed when we started, and we plant two of our ten beds each year in sweet potatoes which we dig, or more or less plow or turn. After all these decades we have rich fertile soil full of worms.
There are many heroes restoring Earth's ecosystems.

Food maybe a way to control us, but water is an even more powerful tool. Today, 2.2 billion people – 1 in 4 – lack access to safe water and 3.5 billion people – 2 in 5 – lack access to a safe toilet.
Food and water are our basic needs and main reliance on our planet. However many people have a spiritual link to nature...especially indigenous peoples.

Mitochondrial Eve
Mitochondria are interesting organelles. They are thought to have been bacteria which became absorbed by primitive cells and used to create energy.

They are able to reproduce in our cells and we have hundreds of them in all our cells.

Mitochondria generate our energy molecule ATP

For all living cells, ATP is like the gas in a car's fuel tank. Without ATP, cells wouldn't have a source of usable energy, and the organism would die.
In 1987, a group of geneticists published a surprising study in the journal Nature. The researchers examined the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) taken from 147 people across all of today's major racial groups. These researchers found that all modern humans descended from one of two branches in humanity's family tree. One of these branches consists of nothing but African lineage; the other contains all other groups, including some African lineage.
Even more impressive, the geneticists concluded that all human beings on Earth right now can trace their lineage back to the Eve gene, a single common female ancestor whom scientists called the Mitochondrial Eve. She lived around 200,000 years ago. Because one entire branch of the human lineage is of African origin and the other contains African lineage as well, the study's authors concluded Africa is the place where this woman lived.
...
Biologists have been aware of mitochondria since the 19th century. But it wasn't until the late 1970s that the value of using the DNA within mitochondria to track ancient human history became clear.
Mitochondrial DNA differs in a few key ways from nuclear DNA — the variety of DNA located within the nucleus of each of your cells determines your eye color, racial features, susceptibility to certain diseases and other defining characteristics. mtDNA, on the other hand, contains codes for making proteins and carrying out the other processes mitochondria undertake.
The genetic material you carry in the form of nuclear DNA are the result of a merger between your mother's and father's DNA — a merger called recombination. mtDNA, however, almost exclusively derives from your mother.
This is because the egg of a female human contains lots of mtDNA, while male sperm contains just a bit of mitochondria. One of the functions of a single mitochondrion is generating power for the cell that contains it, and sperm use a few mitochondria in the tail to power their race toward the egg for fertilization. These mitochondria are destroyed after the sperm fertilizes the egg, and thus any mtDNA that could be passed on from the father's side is lost.
...
Given that researchers believe Eve lived during a time when there were other women alive, how is it that humans alive today descended from her alone? There are a couple of explanations for how only Eve’s mtDNA alone could have survived, and most likely a combination of converging factors is responsible.
...
A report issued in 1998 concluded that about 70,000 years ago, the number of living humans dropped to only about 15,000 people on the whole planet...The event that caused the near loss of our species was an eruption of Mount Toba in Sumatra. This volcanic eruption was so immense that it lowered global temperatures, killed off the animals and plants that nourished humans and spurred the coldest ice age the planet has seen, lasting 1,000 years.
The Mitochondrial Eve theory evokes similar scenarios. If the human population became dramatically reduced, and there weren’t many women around to have kids, the stage is set for one “Lucky Mother,” as Cann puts it, to emerge as a most recent common ancestor.
It’s possible that after a few generations, the mtDNA of the other women died out. If a woman produces only male offspring, she won't pass on her mtDNA since children don’t receive mtDNA from their father. This means that while the woman’s sons will have her mtDNA, her grandchildren won’t, and her line will be lost.
It’s possible that this was the cause of Eve emerging as the sole “Lucky Mother,” who in essence gave birth to us all.
We are indeed a family of humans, and our Mothers have carried the message all these millennia.
So Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers reading, to Mother Earth, and Mother Nature...all of whom we depend on for our lives!
I thought this paired well with Carl's pale blue dot. I'm not wild about the god is watching us...sadly it is Big Brother watching us. None the less a nice song sung by the writer, Julie Gold
From a distance the world looks blue and green,
and the snow-capped mountains white.
From a distance the ocean meets the stream,
and the eagle takes to flight.
From a distance, there is harmony,
and it echoes through the land.
It's the voice of hope, it's the voice of peace,
it's the voice of every man.
From a distance we all have enough,
and no one is in need.
And there are no guns, no bombs, and no disease,
no hungry mouths to feed.
From a distance we are instruments
marching in a common band.
Playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace.
They're the songs of every man.
God is watching us. God is watching us.
God is watching us from a distance.
From a distance you look like my friend,
even though we are at war.
From a distance I just cannot comprehend
what all this fighting is for.
From a distance there is harmony,
and it echoes through the land.
And it's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves,
it's the heart of every man.
It's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves.
This is the song of every man.
And God is watching us, God is watching us,
God is watching us from a distance.
Oh, God is watching us, God is watching.
God is watching us from a distance.

Planet Earth As A Living Organism? Understanding the Gaia Hypothesis
At the heart of the Gaia Hypothesis lies a compelling concept: Earth, with its intricate web of physical, chemical, and biological processes, acts as a unified organism. Lovelock theorized that life on Earth actively regulates its environment to maintain conditions conducive to its survival. However, Gaia is not sentient in the traditional sense. Rather, it is an intricate interplay of systems—oceans, atmosphere, and ecosystems—that create and sustain the delicate balance necessary for life.
According to Lovelock, this self-regulating mechanism is shaped by natural selection, adhering to Darwinian principles. He argued that Earth’s capacity for equilibrium ensures its survival, even in the face of dramatic changes or the extinction of specific species, including humans.
I also like Lewis Thomas concept of the Earth as a cell with the atmosphere acting as the membrane.

Good morning LO. Thanks for the WW.
There is a theory, or there are assorted theories the gist of which is that a switch from the early goddess focused religions to the later male gods, often angry, imperialist, conquest driven warrior gods was a driving force behind not merely most historical strife, but also destructive exploitation of the natural environment.

When mankind...
lived in small groups and lived off the land, they knew themselves to be a part of nature and their spiritual beliefs reflected that understanding by worshiping the natural wonders that surrounded them. The moon, the sun, the stars especially.
When mankind settled into an agrarian lifestyle and gave up the hunter-gatherer way of life they lost touch with the belief that they were a part of nature and considered themselves separate from Mother Earth. Their spiritual beliefs reflected that change as they no longer worshiped the natural world in lieu of religious beliefs that venerated deities in human form.
Mankind had elevated its existence above nature. Nature was to be exploited rather than shared.
And here we are today.
That juncture also...
changed moon worship (which influences hunting) to Sun worship to create calendars like Stonehenge to know when to plant. There were many moon deities most of them goddesses.
As to your point Joel suggests it is a wrestler compared to a lover. His idea of farming is to caress the earth not control it.

Zionism is a social disease
It was the Biden, Obummer, and Clinton Ukraine proxy war

That idea dates back to the 50's
Kissinger and Brzezinski
From the Grand Chessboard...
From 1997... This has been in the works for a long time as was the Obummer, Biden, Clinton Ukraine coup to entice Russia into war. In fact I think it was Ray McGovern who said they had planned since 1950 to use Ukraine to strike at Russia.
198 THE GRAND CHESSBOARD
This condition places a premium on geostrategic insight
and on the deliberately selective deployment of America's re-
sources on the huge Eurasian chessboard. And since America's un-
precedented power is bound to diminish over time, the priority
must be to manage the rise of other regional powers in ways that
do not threaten America's global primacy.
As in chess, American global planners must think several
moves ahead, anticipating possible countermoves. A sustainable
geostrategy must therefore distinguish between the short-run per-
spective (the next five or so years), the middle term (up to twenty
or so years), and the long run (beyond twenty years). Moreover,
these phases must be viewed not as watertight compartments but
as part of a continuum. The first phase must gradually and consis-
tently lead into the second—indeed, be deliberately pointed to-
ward it—and the second must then lead subsequently into the
third.
In the short run, it is in America's interest to consolidate and per-
petuate the prevailing geopolitical pluralism on the map of Eurasia.
That puts a premium on maneuver and manipulation in order to pre-
vent the emergence of a hostile coalition that could eventually seek
to challenge America's primacy, not to mention the remote possibility
of any one particular state seeking to do so. By the middle term, the
foregoing should gradually yield to a greater emphasis on the emer-
gence of increasingly important but strategically compatible partners
who, prompted by American leadership, might help to shape a more
cooperative trans-Eurasian security system. Eventually, in the much
longer run still, the foregoing could phase into a global core of gen-
uinely shared political responsibility.
The most immediate task is to make certain that no state or
combination of states gains the capacity to expel the United States
from Eurasia or even to diminish significantly its decisive arbitrat-
ing role. However, the consolidation of transcontinental geopoliti-
cal pluralism should not be viewed as an end in itself but only as a
means to achieve the middle-term goal of shaping genuine strate-
gic partnerships in the key regions of Eurasia. It is unlikely that de-
mocratic America will wish to be permanently engaged in the
difficult, absorbing, and costly task of managing Eurasia by con-
stant manipulation and maneuver, backed by American military re-
sources, in order to prevent regional domination by any one
CONCLUSION 199
power. The first phase must, therefore, logically and deliberately
lead into the second, one in which a benign American hegemony
still discourages others from posing a challenge not only by mak-
ing the costs of the challenge too high but also by not threatening
the vital interests of Eurasia's potential regional aspirants.
What that requires specifically, as the middle-term goal, is the
fostering of genuine partnerships, predominant among them those
with a more united and politically defined Europe and with a re-
gionally preeminent China, as well as with (one hopes) a postimpe-
rial and Europe-oriented Russia and, on the southern fringe of
Eurasia, with a regionally stabilizing and democratic India. But it
will be the success or failure of the effort to forge broader strategic
relationships with Europe and China, respectively, that will shape
the defining context for Russia's role, either positive or negative.

Another example of Trump making corruption great again
Yes, I know orange man bad...
there's also this:
Zelensky offers to meet Putin after Trump demands Ukraine hold direct talks with Russia
On Sunday Trump then posted on social media that Ukraine should agree to this "immediately" and it would provide clarity on whether there was a way to end the war.
"At least they will be able to determine whether or not a deal is possible, and if it is not, European leaders, and the US, will know where everything stands, and can proceed accordingly" he said, adding: "Have the meeting, now!"
Nor this:
Trump announces "full and immediate" ceasefire between India and Pakistan
"After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence," Trump said on Truth Social.
Just coming back to my theme of the good, bad, and ugly. If all you do is look at the bad, that is all you see.
How does Trump's corruption compare to the Biden crime family or the Clinton foundation grifts (much of which came from Ukraine)?
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Answer
Trump's corruption is measurably and demonstratively worse.
But you'll never know that if you refuse the information.
Really?
Trump’s corruption is worse than the Clinton foundation’s corruption?
Has Trump stolen all the funds from a country affected by an earthquake like the Clintons did in Haiti? Has Trump made numerous pay to play deals like Hillary did during her time as SoS. Are you aware of how many countries ‘donated’ tens of millions to her foundation and some still were after she left office?
And why do you think that donations that were going to the Clinton foundation got switched to the McCain foundation after she lost the election?
Republicans knew all about how corrupt they are, but shrug.
The Clintons have been ‘donating’ AIDS drugs to Africa for decades. Unfortunately the drugs are outdated or found to cause serious adverse effects or have been proven to not work and that’s why they can buy them so cheaply.
Then there’s the Biden family pay to play which the republicans delved into and proved how corrupt they were. But same thing happened. Republicans are now in charge, but their investigations have disappeared.
Lots of politicians have their own foundations because it’s how they avoid taxes and charges of money laundering.
But yeah only Orange Man bad.
Fair play. If you had bothered reading the essays here this wouldn’t be new information to you. We cover many issues that you show up days or weeks later and think that we aren’t aware of them or have been already discussing.
Apparently holocaust denial is not an issue anymore. Lots of people are denying the one in Gaza with absolutely no repercussions.
YES, really
Good afternoon, Lo!
One of these days, I intend to watch Sagan's Cosmos series. I do not recall watching it at all.
At any rate, I have noticed for days that the information brought to the site has made a sharp upwards turn. It is well researched, thoughtful, intelligent, I am beginning to think of c99 as an online college.
I am adding an Offguardian article which makes some interesting points about how we react to politicians, and the context and timing of the very predictable reactions. Most times is isn't the policy, but the proponent that matters. It is a short read, employing common sense.

Article has some major flaws,
including regurgitating the LIE about a "trans woman" winning gold at the Olympics (stop listening to JK Rowling, Mr. Hayden!).
There was one (1) trans woman at the 2024 Olympics - in weightlifting, and she finished dead last in her class. If that's a "problem", there are many worse things to worry about. (Like maybe the convicted male child rapist who was permitted to compete because he had "served his sentence".)
There were NO trans women in any other sport, particularly not women's boxing. Lin Yu-ting is not a trans woman. Imane Khelif is not a trans woman. Both were identified as female at birth, both were raised as female, both self-identify as, and have never considered themselves to be anything other than, female.
THAT IS NOT "TRANS"!!!
It so happens that both are women "of color" and neither one is a classic American Beauty (Fannie Brice knew all about that, lo these many years ago). Lin is a Plain Jane (just like her mother), and Khelif got her father's nose and jaw - and that's it.
At the very most, one or both might be some variety of intersex, which does not make them any less women. (Some forms may give a minuscule advantage, most do not, some give a disadvantage.)
Screaming and hollering about "Men Invading Women's Sports" is a total, deliberate distraction from the REAL problems facing us. (So is the nonsense about "forcing" gender-affirming surgery on children, which is HIGHLY UNETHICAL and not done anywhere that I am aware of, other than in the deranged minds of JK Rowling and like-minded TERFs.)
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Point out any mistakes you see.
I admit the issue of trans and DEI is of little or no interest to me. Sports bore me to death. All of them.
About the only thing that I do express about trans and surgeries is that surgery and hormone treatment should only be done to the patient when they are old enough to consent. If you cannot legally enter a contract to purchase a car or rent an apartment, well, you should wait a bit on the therapies and surgeries.

ZigZag Trump...
...one thing one day, another the next. The Duran guys say it depends on who he talked with last. It seems more Kellogg than Whitcoff...how foolish. We'll see. Next week should be telling.
Interesting walking on the war-Peace line and weaving from side to side.
Thanks as always for the X posts!

Move to ban backyard bee hives in Portland Oregon?
Happen to catch this interesting article in Portland's "alternative weekly::
Should Portland Ban Backyard Beekeeping? Adding hundreds of thousands of honeybees into a previously balanced residential environment disrupts it substantially.
Before my wife and I started up a hive, I rarely saw what are called native bees. We even tried to build structures to attract bumble bees--which didn't happen. The supposition seems to be that there was a balance with native bees who were abundant. From my own just everyday experience in fact, insect populations were all in decline.
Which points to an issue of how humans manage an environment which they have altered by our mere presence. How do we even understand the interlocking complexes. After putting in a hive, our cherry tree produced cherries glore; frog appeared in our little pond as source of water for bees; crows seem came back to eat the bees....
My own take on this is that some organizations are return-to-what-it-was-before-humans-arrived. In some cases that works when humans are restricted or forbidden. But in most case impossible. While honey bees many out-compete native bees, they do add to their environment in a way that the dwindling population of natives were incapable because you know, they barely survive in a human dominated area.
I did find the quote from the article about rethinking grazing animals to the quote by the local Portland activist which attempted to make keeping live stock seem negative.
BTW we no longer actively manage the hives. No more honey, food in winter, etc. Let them survive on their own. Bees are hanging in there and pollinating the neighborhood.
Not so many years ago...
We had to clean our windshield of bug splatter on the regular. Even driving to Florida we rarely get bug splatter in contrast to the past. BTW, whats the last last thing that goes through a bug's mind when it hits the windshield? It's asshole. As the old joke goes.
Rewilding bees is not a bad idea. I've worked bees in my youth, but not in years. Bringing back pollinators is a good idea. Many folks plant pollinator gardens to do so. Where we live we currently has a fair amount.
Has Oregon gone EU crazy? I've heard several snippets of the state cracking down (discouraging) small farms...especially those with livestock. If you believe the experiences of the farmers I featured today, cows are environmentally helpful.
Hope all is well in your world. Thanks for dropping in!

In my Texas county
you must have at least 6 acres to have hives. You will get an agricultural property tax exemption for your efforts.

I enjoy both Larry and Ray. I wonder if Ray is still in Russia. The Judge is very well known in all the right circles.
George Galloway hosted his show from the Moscow today.
I watched the monologue and the two interviews

Maybe it is something postive...
We can hope. As you suggest...we'll see when we see.
Thanks for the update.

Signing out with this country blues...
Another film from David Hoffman
The Morris Brothers were wonderful characters, great musicians and so kind to me and my crew when we showed up at their body shop to film them picking a few tunes with Earl Scruggs and his son Randy.
I love watching this moment as I did when I first filmed it. I do not know what it is about country/bluegrass/mountain/old time music that so appeals to me. If I am in a bad mood or having a tough day, it lightens it. If I am feeling really wonderful and floating through life, it becomes even more wonderful when I hear those songs, backed up by flat picking guitars and 5 string banjos. And when you are lucky enough as I was to go to the North Carolina mountains, the southern Appalachians, into those small hollers with the mountains all around, and just sit down and listen.
What you hear is magnificent. I once played the banjo which I have learned in high school, I was okay until I heard these folks and others like them and then I just put the banjo down and never played it again. I'd rather listen to masters like Earl.
"Salty Dog Blues" is a traditional blues song that has been recorded by many different artists over the years. It is a blues standard that has been recorded by numerous artists, including Lead Belly, Elvis Presley, and the Allman Brothers Band, among others. The song is a traditional blues form with lyrics that tell the story of a man who has been cheated on by his lover and is feeling down and depressed as a result. The song has a catchy, upbeat melody and has been covered by a wide range of artists, making it a well-known and enduring classic of the blues genre.

Formerly counterculture French daily “Libération” hits new low
https://www.trtworld.com/middle-east/fury-as-french-paper-liberation-moc...
Like the Green-Party-adjacent newspaper “taz.de” in Germany, “Libé” seems to have abandoned any semblance of its original bottom-up underdog spirit and has gone full establishment.
In Europe, almost all the pro-peace populist energy now is on the Right.
If you don’t want to spend half a trillion euros on new armaments and on planning war with Russia, are against the government spying on and censoring all online conversation, and believe people do have a right to publicly protest genocide, well, have you seen the like? Then they call you a fascist.
I am waiting for humphrey or snoopy
to drop in the X video showing Macron, Merz, and Starmer on the train, removing a spoon, a piece of tissue, such things used for snorting cocaine...

Yep there is no shortage of memes thanks to AI.
I dunno
The look on Macron’s face seems like it’s a joke and he knows it. Same with the German guy. If you’re caught with drugs do you just smirk like that?
And since it’s gone viral… and everyone is talking about it….
It just feels like we’re getting played. Time will tell I guess. If the police talks to them about possible drug use I’ll change my mind.
And Trump is the most ignorant president in history. He keeps insulting Russia after they lost 27 million people during the war compared to our less than 200,000.
People say that our land lease is what helped Russia win the war. Russia defeated Germany in Stalingrad in 1941-2 and the LL didn’t happen until 1943.
Someone should educate him or stick a sock in his mouth.
And his pretending that we have nothing to do with the Ukraine war is also getting old. He just authorized giving Ukraine more Patriot missiles and Germany permission to send their Taurus missiles that use American surveillance to pick targets.
He owns the war know, but then he was always responsible for the build up of weapons, troops and training of Ukraines military. Joe Biden’s war my left buttock.
Ignorant git!
Apparently holocaust denial is not an issue anymore. Lots of people are denying the one in Gaza with absolutely no repercussions.
Who knows if the accusations are real but it at least it is
a bit of fun while it lasts. Their credibility will take a much deserved hit in the meantime.
Everything's a joke
With all that security in the White House, we still have no idea how the cocaine got in there...
I guess things really do go better with Coke, as the song says.
I have heard from people that had friends or family that were in the Texas Senate or were State Reps. They would go to Austin to visit their friends or relatives to enjoy the parties when the Legislature was in session. My info about it spans all the way from 1971 to present.

For sure their are no hidden benefits for Qatar in its generous
gift to Trump. HAH!
The incoherence of his tweet
tells me that he actually writes them. But he ordered a new plane back in his first administration and it’s still not finished shows how far Boeing has fallen.
During WW2 we put out countless tanks and planes a day and now we can’t even finish one damn important plane?
Another ceasefire deal because….
Russia adhered to the 30 day energy ceasefire while Ukraine didn’t. They didn’t adhere to the Easter ceasefire or the 3 day ceasefire for the patriot day. Russia did that to show that Ukraine isn’t interested in a ceasefire no matter how long it is. Besides if Zelensky agrees to one he will be swinging from a tree in no time.
Apparently holocaust denial is not an issue anymore. Lots of people are denying the one in Gaza with absolutely no repercussions.
Here is another image of Zelensky and Putin.
Straight from the horses mouth.
