Friday Night Photos Butterfly Edition

It's spring. That means it's time for the annual butterfly exhibit at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. I stopped by the park on Monday to check it out. The variety and total number of butterflies and the length of time the exhibit runs varies from year to year. This year the variety and total number were the smallest and the length of run is the shortest I've seen in the dozen years I've been a zoo member. I hope the low numbers this year were an anomaly and not a sign of things to come.

Awesome butterfly photos SP! Outstanding work man! There is another Heliconian called the Erato that is in the same group as the Postman, very similar, and occurs rarely in the U.S., mostly along the Rio Grande. It is in Kaufmann. I photo'd one there in the late 80's. A kissin' cousin to the Postman.

I have work to do so gotta fly but here is a pic at the bird bath last week. Another adult male Golden-cheeked Warbler. As a breeder, a Texas endemic, the only bird whose entire breeding range lies within Texas. Actually on the Edwards Plateau, the central 20% of the state. No Ashe Junipers, no nesting Golden-cheeks. I think they are about to be de-listed which won't go well.

That is one of the sweetest Warblers I've seen, in a group of the sweetest birds to be seen and heard. That is also an amazing piece of music, thank you.

The close up of the Blue Morpho looks like something stitched or woven. I love the patterns and subtle colours of the Giant Owl. And thanks for the music.
