Open Thread - 03-14-25 - Clapping Seals

Have you ever felt like we're rushing down the river of history headlong into the unknown known? By unknown known I mean we may have an idea of the destination, but it's so unfathomable, like a bad dream, that we deny its possibility. The rivers of history have done that before.

Like all rivers, this one too, has branches that empty into it, some large, some small. The larger tributaries are the true believers that will ride the currents no matter what may come. The smaller tributaries are those that see the rough waters ahead. The true believers are convinced the river will widen into a slow rolling and calm future. The smaller tributaries are those that see the rapids and the waterfall dead ahead and the dangers of such.

Years of manipulation have muddied the waters so that the large tributaries may easily swallow up the smaller ones into one inevitable flow that will engulf us all. Into that unknown known.

It appears pretty certain that we're headed down that river, whether we like it or not. There's a new reality over those rapids and down the waterfall, and just like the force of a mighty river there are mighty forces that will carry the willing and unwilling, marching in lock step or kicking and screaming, into whatever great body of water that lies ahead.

Time and time again, in the past, war has been the catalyst for many of the great changes that the rivers of history have brought about.

There is no larger concern, at the present moment, than the European conflict between Nato and Russia. Yes, there are talks of of fording the rapids and a pulling over before the waterfall is approached, but all it will take is an old backwoods trick of stretching a rope across the river and capsizing the vessels as they float down the river. A false flag event, if you will, that will pull everyone into the maelstrom as has happened many times in the past. Then all bets are off.

Will a war in Europe be the pretext for the advent of the "new reality"? Will you deny that it's possible? Even if we, the US, decide to sit this war out like we've done in the past, there's always that backwoods rope trick to pull us in, again. That rope trick may be so egregious that a overwhelming consensus will mandate that we join in the maelstrom, as has happened before.

That war, let's call it World War III, would most likely lead to a world wide economic collapse and societal collapse, and if we can make it past destroying ourselves, setting up the "new reality" that the trip down the muddied waters, and the backwoods rope trick, were all about from the beginning.

All the while, along the shoreline, and on the deck chairs of the great vessel barreling down the river of history, clapping seals exhort their acquiescence, as the masters throw them little bits of fishmeal, flippers flapping as they grunt their unwitting approval.

that holding the world on the brink of annihilation is so damnably profitable.

Trump will continue to sow chaos, to escalate so that he can then de-escalate and be seen to be in control. Each cycle of E/DE brings us one step closer to that bourne from which there will be no returning. Sooner or later, things will break, probably through mechanical or human failure. Somehow, I don't feel much like clapping.

I maintain my walking range to my tux and my bottle of Macallan as much of the time as possible, so that I can prep properly if warned. I don't know how I'll accommodate this damned surgical drain with the tux, but I'll either make it work or simply pull the damned thing out. It's much more important to be dressed properly for the occasion, you know.

every day as I cruise the nets, there are signs of people waking up, especially on the right. There will always be the clapping seals, but their majority dwindles as they peal off one by one.

Let's hope you wont need that tux after all.

by snatching that line one may save
the self from immanent destruction
if only to climb ashore and face the

@QMS
good catch (pun intended). Not only may there be danger from hungry bears or flaming dragons, but also too, there may be charging bull seals with flippers a flapping and mighty tusks glistening in the water vapor.

what happens could be found in who exactly profited from Bush2s criminal war, and occupation. There are entities that must want this to happen today. Even if it's picking through the wreckage bottom feeding for valuable morsels.

I still wonder how many of us the 1% need. The more of us 99% that exist, the greater the fear that we'll want their power and wealth. Less of us, less danger. I mean, once every dollar is somehow under their control, end of game.

@Snode
the monied class that own it all. One theory states that Europe needs war so they can default on the massive debt that they carry, much like the US. They can then reset it all in the ashes of ruin.

Total control, that is the end game for the psychopathic powers that should not be. The path of least resistance for said powers is acquiescence of a majority of the 99%. That's why it's so important that people wake the hell up.

Great analogy with the rivers and tributaries, especially the rope. Seems like where we are at for sure.

Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.

@earthling1
I'm hoping the powers that shouldn't be don't use war as a tool to catapult their goals such as a catastrophic fix for their debt problems and to usher in a "new reality", but I wouldn't put anything past those power mad psychos.

symbol, given enough rope ... or give them enough rope ..., or, as the Cap'n noted above we could hang from said rope to disengage from the boat (is it, perchance charon's boat?) which brings up the old adage (or truism?) that we must hang together lest we hang separately. No less a person than the great Tom Lehrer warned us that

Down by the old maelstrom. There'll be a storm before the calm.

, which also seems appropriate in this imagery fest.

Our salvation or doom, as the case may be is that there are morons at the helm. They wouldn't know or understand randomness, entropy and chaos if it bit them in the ass, but they think that they are in control. That is almost always the case. those who think that they are best suited to run the machine actually have no idea how it works. There are a multitude of ways in which they can fuck up and we just have to hope that the net vector of their errors is benign and, in the meantime, try not to inadvertently assist in the upfucking.
