Album of the Week 10-19-24
Afternoon folks!
Well, this week we're a little heavy on the blues rock, but we'll start out with a couple of blues records. Percy Mayfield starts us off with a compilation of some of his earlier recordings followed by New Orleans piano player Cousin Joe weighing in with a late career album from the mid-80's blues revival period. After that it's off to blues rock with an album from Mick Taylor (former guitarist for John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and the Rolling Stones), a live album from The Band, performing with some amazing horns, and a double album from the band Redbone. After that, there's an album from Parliament that somebody gave me years ago telling me it was great, so, well, you decide. Then there's some folk-rock from Lindisfarne and we finish off with some pure pop from Tommy James & The Shondells that's been lurking in my collection for years.
Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!
Here 'tis:

Hey Joe,
Hey Joe,
Great sounds man! Mysdys has that Tommy James album. They were great and this had their last two big huge hits on it, from that initial run of success.
That Mick Taylor album was great. So full of outstanding guitar work. Brilliant. And never got asny airplay or traction. What a shame. It is a most-overlooked gem. I used to have it on cassette, loaned it only to never see it again.
Will have to refresh my memory with the Parliment, but how could something with Bernie W., Bootsy C., Eddie H. and George Clinton be bad? One of the guys in the gang had this and we liked it at the time.
Thanks for the great sounds Joe!

evening dystopian...
i had forgotten how good that mick taylor album was when i dug it out (this sort of thing happens to me frequently), it really should have been a more popular album.
there are a couple of cuts on the parliament album that i really like and there was one that was obviously bluesy enough that i could make the guy who gave it to me happy by playing it on the air on a blues show.
have a great evening!
Awesome Parliment!
That Parliment album was fantastic! It made me, well, happier than a monkey with a peanut machine!
Those guys were fantastic. I can't believe a bunch of 18-21 year old budding hippies in snow white Huntington Beach, CA, thought it was very cool! We were all in on Maggot Brain so... it figures...
That album is a masterpiece of cool and creative..
Thanks!
