Viva's campaign for mayor of Portlandia

From her weird campaign:

Good evening, Portland!!

I am THRILLED to announce that we are WITHIN SPITTING DISTANCE of certification. SO CLOSE we can taste it!

We have just shy of 1000 donations (factoring in the 83 on the first platform), and at least 750 are from Oregon. We can’t be certain which are Portland proper donations until we’re certified, so we are asking ONE LAST TIME for everyone EVERYONE to dig DEEP into their contacts list and ask fellow Portlanders to celebrate this new system of small-donor-funded elections by chipping in five bucks. I might not be their favorite candidate, but my voice represents a huge crazy quilt of communities that deserve to be heard, and that’s precisely why Portlanders voted to support the Small Donor Elections Program, so people like me could run against established politicians.

My team and I were particularly thrilled to note today that we have the most “Micro” donations (of $25 or less) of ANY of the mayoral candidates. [CR = Carmen Rubio; RG = Rene Gonzalez; KW = Keith Wilson; MM = Mingus Mapps] This makes me SO PROUD. For a good portion of my donors, this was your FIRST contribution to any campaign. You’ve long felt disenchanted by politics, and not represented. To see that it is possible for someone like me — who is a shift worker and a single mom and an artist — run a campaign means that, well, EVERYONE has a place in our democracy, and that ANYONE can — and should! — run for office, if so inclined.

We’ve had 51 donations (so far) today, and 40 yesterday. We have tomorrow to ride that momentum into the sunset. And then we can move on to the main course — shaping the conversation that shapes Portland in the years and decades to come.

Thank you for your support!!

This does not mention what Viva has for a day job --stripper. But she does not shy away from her way of making a living. It is something she celebrates in her campaign.

The times, they might be changing, as the two major parties accuse each other of not supporting Ukraine and Israel aggressively enough.

If Portland is weird, what does that make the rest of the country? Blood thirsty?

I cried when I wrote this song. Sue me if I play too long.
