This past weekend, we were treated to another festival. This one is called Folk Fest. The
headliner was Joan reading excerpts from her newly released poetry collection.

Was unable to attend as I had a boat delivery and a small brain aneurysm in the process.
Good thing, I made it to the landing before the effects hit. Sucks getting old. The folks I
showed on the methods to rig the boat thought I was falling down drunk. Oops.

Some of the other worthy acts included:

Taj Mahal
Conan O'Brien
Gillian Welch
Dropkick Murpheys
Billie Marten

~

And many other lesser lights.

See the lineup held at Fort Adams Sat/Sun.

Open thread, so post away whatever you see fit.
Still a bit fuzzy upstairs, but will try to post some music later on.

How are ya doing, friend?
Keep us up to date on your health!
Yeah, getting old sucks.
Not ever getting old sucks worse, however.
Joan is still kickin' it, so there's that.
I slept late, don't care, the work at the office will be there when I get there.
Thanks for the OT, and no doubt, the conversation that ensues amongst us will be interesting and entertaining.

Also, get medical attention and see if you need to do things to tweak some of your vitals. Most importantly, FWIW, Don't Fall Down. Best advice I ever got.

So, consider yourself admonished. Relax, a bunch.

Folk festival, huh?

BE WELL and have a good one, ok.

Take care of yourself, and get seen by someone as soon as you can.

I've never had a TIA or a bleed, but I have had DCS (decompression sickness, the bends) with major neuro impact. It is distinctly no bueno when your brain suddenly doesn't/can't do what you are used to it doing- and in my experience, those things typically don't fix themselves. Falling down can be the least of it.

My DCS deal resolved itself after two recompression chamber rides. There's nothing like doing 160FSW on pure O2 for a good time... That led to my retirement from diving.
The only lasting effect I have is that there's a 1 sq. in. spot on my right butt cheek with no sensation whatsoever. Which comes in handy for getting shots, but there's nothing else to recommend it. At least I can keep my balance...

Seriously- get seen, if you can. And be well!

somehow, the DNC came up with camel hair
probably thinking she will be worse than Killary
Does anyone think she is presidential material?

OK, check the boxes: female, check, color, check
follows orders, check. What about intelligence? No
box there. Reads a prompter, almost. I guess it is
nice that she can explain complicated issues like
busses or the present in simple terms for us. If the
voting public are all second graders it makes sense.
But, second graders don't vote yet. So WTF?

@QMS

don’t have to be competent or that they are in charge .. republicans want to know who is running the country, but I doubt they really want to explore that because we know that lobbyists for the oligarchs runs and owns congress. They write the bill s not congress. At least since Pelosi’s reign of terror.
I don’t think Kamala is very smart.

Hey Capt.!

OMG Capt., be careful out there... we love you like a brother here. Smile

Hey wasn't it the Newport Festival where Bob Dylan went all sacreligous by plugging in electric, what about 1965?

Great advice from EL. A fall was the beginning of the end for millions of people.

I was hit by a car at 18, was on a 10-speed, in Redondo Bch. I was out quite some time. I didn't get to see the EEG, but suspect it was a cross between a psychedelic poster and an M.C. Escher work, with a musical soundtrack (Zappa, the Fugs, Hendrix, some blues, Zeppelin, ELP, etc.). Or hope so. Anyway they had me on drugs, like friggin' narcotics man, which were pretty damned good I might say. So I wake up and these two guys in ties, white lab coats and seemed to be impersonating doctors, are looking at some chartthing. Alternately one would raise eyebrows and then point at something. The others' eyes would get big, and he would say something like 'fascinating'. Then he would seem shocked at something and point. The other now raised both eyebrows, 'very interesting'... I could only imagine what their scan had provided... all my dirty secrets no doubt! Maybe they could see some of that shit I did? They said they would need to observe me for a couple days. Oh F! They saw it all and are calling the cops! I am laid up and can't even run!

So what was apparently rehab consisted of two days in a semi-provate ward with a biker that had casts all over the place, in traction. He was really F'd up. As soon as it was clear he asked if I needed a couple hits. Affirmative of course. He tossed a pipe and a quarter oz. of some great Red Leb Hash over to my bed. Said go into bathroom, turn vent on so I did. After all he was in charge in the room, I was a new guy. For two days this went on. It worked, I was all well and went home. There is a knot on the back of my head from where it hit the pavement. That was Nov. 1973, and the only time I was ever in a hospital. They are second to falling as another place with a high incidence of being the beginning of the end.

gotta get back to work!

take care and be well all, especially you Capt.!

wish I trusted doctors and their damn 'tests'
'73 was misdiagnosed as having the hep
isolated in a hospital room for a few days
friends came in with a doobie laced with hash oil
was out the next day - oops was a little liver infection
the wonders of modern medicine and ancient cures

leave it to Dylan to break the mold!

. Did you need treatment or are you just monitoring it? I can imagine how scary that was.
Any idea what caused it?
Strokes run in my family, but usually skin generations…mom and aunt had some.
My BP went to 220/160 once and the ER doctor wasn’t too concerned. He asked me what I wanted from him to do for me and when I could speak without throttling him I said well if I stroke out I can get immediate help…he walked out of the room while I was answering his question.
Something has happened to the medica field the last 4 years.

pinched a nerve in mid spine by resting my weight on a corner of the cockpit of the boat.
It was sore, but not until I climbed out of the boat did I go dizzy and lose my balance.
Did some research and a spinal injury is indicative of a loss of balance. The scary thing,
after about my fourth fall, I couldn't get back up. It was like my muscles froze-up. Pushing
as hard as I could it felt like a mountain on my back. Falling backwards was a trip. Don't
think it was a brain bleed so much as a TIA or some such ? Trying to only work a couple
hours / day. Ice and heat treatments on the back help.

Glad you are up and reporting to all of us. I would agree with EL that falling is something we do not want to do anymore. I experienced a TIA on one of my trips from Santa Fe back down to Texas. Called EMS and was taken to the emergency room in Clovis. This was at the height of Covid. The emergency room determined I had not had a stroke but kept me overnight for observation. The roaming doctor ordered at MRI so my doctor back home would have that as a base for what he recommended.

The emergency room wanted to send me to Lubbock which was overwhelmed with Covid. I said no thanks am going to Austin. They also wanted to send me by ambulance to Albuquerque. I declined because I was not going to have that bill. My in-laws drove up and rescued me and took me to Austin. The MRI showed so issues with my brain and I have not had another TIA but my father evidently did have them as he got older. He died at age 99 so I am keeping from falling and do have regular checkups. Good luck to you and take care!

I think your story is important. As long as we are able to make informed decisions
as to our health care treatments, we should exercise that power. I am constantly
being told by health care professionals what is recommended. We have an intuition
which may be better educated by what is best for us in any given moment. The goal
is to live well, as you have certainly figured out, as long as the vessel exists.

Thanks for checking in!

I am probably too sensitive about someone falling as a result.
Still, if it happens again, go to a dr. you can trust, if such a person exists anymore.

Thank you for the beautifully moody music of Billie Marten. I can imagine how her music and voice encourages inspiration and fortitude in you.

I learned that one of her inspirations is Damien Rice, whose music I especially enjoy at times of feeling vulnerable.

I wish you much strength of body and spirit in healing.

I appreciate and concur with your perspective on personal health care. Long lived intuition and informed knowledge is the way to go.
