A Facebook guide to discussing Project 2025

This is the Psyop of the Moment, apparently. The Democrats are trying to decide who they wish to nominate, their foreign policy is James Buchanan-level bad, and their opponent, also bad, will win in November. But, rather than organizing a countervailing force (Jill Stein, maybe), they've decided to blanket Facebook with "read Project 2025" notices. Here's the website, if you were asking. And here's the text, if you were asking. It is what it is: America is, to all appearances, a land full of gullible reactionaries. So here are some tips for meaningful discussion.

1) Don't make assumptions about your readers. Start by asking yourself: what do you know about your readers? Do not claim to know that which you in fact do not know.

2) Assume that your readers have, at best, a very, very limited ability to affect the upcoming Presidential election. Judge said election -- actually 50 elections, one in each state -- as against the various analyses of who will win what state. This will reduce panic about possible results.

3) You would benefit from considering the actual workings of power. Project 2025 is one platform; the Heritage Foundation is one lobby, tasting power since 1981. Donald Trump consults billionaires; Joe Biden would prefer to do business between 10am and 4pm. There is no guarantee that Project 2025 will be enacted, and no guarantee that the Heritage Foundation will only lobby Republicans.

4) Consider whatever proposal you might have as against background events that are going on right now. The US currently escalates toward nuclear war in Ukraine; Israel plans upon a multi-front war while at the present moment pursuing a genocide.

5) Try to debate fairly. Stick with the facts, and try to establish where common ground exists and where it doesn't.

That having been said, I'm really developing a distaste for political discussion. It really does appear that this is the least important election in my lifetime, if not in all of history.

Did you catch this essay this AM on Naked Cap?
Full disclosure: I do not face book.

Over the past few years, the Heritage Foundation has led the creation of a step-by-step manual, the “Mandate For Leadership,” that is designed to allow the next Republican president to function effectively as an authoritarian. This 900-page behemoth can be boiled down to one core directive: create a white Christian nationalist society.

Project 2025’s plans for capitalizing on the Supreme Court’s recent decisions show that the Court’s Republicans aren’t just extending invitations to the conservative movement—they’re drawing maps for where it should go next. While the Republican justices may not have written Project 2025, it wouldn’t exist without them.

@QMS A bunch of Democratic Party tribalists who can't be bothered to resist a genocide going on RIGHT NOW, and who can't be counted on to resist a drive to start a nuclear war that is going on RIGHT NOW, are going to resist this.

I know what they're going to do! They're going to vote for a politician who will find some other way of screwing us. Yeah, that'll work!

Uh-huh.

Btw, I didn't see anything in the Naked Capitalism table of contents that mentioned Project 666. But I did see this:

Biden Twists in the Wind as Big Donors Close Wallets, Party Criticism Persists Despite Clampdown, and Pelosi Questions His Decision to Continue

The drama around Biden was -- I need to repeat -- baked in a year ago. "I know! We'll destroy the primaries in authoritarian fashion, and then when everyone knows FER SHER that Biden's the nominee, we'll switch him out with someone of our choosing. It will totally work." I had RANK-AND-FILE Dems telling me this last year, so it wasn't a secret.

Project 666 is what we get when we trust such self-professed geniuses to lead the charge "against" authoritarianism. Not trusting them is a first step to a better world.

"Our national nightmare is over -- time for a new one." - anonymous response to "Biden's" statement

Politics is about fear and the lesser of two evils. Sinece the politicians don't want to rock the donor boat, administrations turn to foreign policy, in other words endless war. It used to be about citizens wanting a system to ensure peace and prosperity with the ability to protect those citizens in time of war. Much better to whip up anger and fear....emotions that give you a rush.

I was reading this https://dnyuz.com/2024/07/10/when-progressive-ideals-become-a-luxury/ and it kind of confirmed something that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Mostly, the wealthy, esp. the offspring, 2nd, 3rd gen. float above our country, with outsize influence and not enough empathy to actually set about to change things. How can you change anything if you can't really comprehend it and if fixing what's wrong means that YOU have to change?

@Snode And, to add: endless war is indeed a part of the donor boat. Exhibit A: Lloyd "Raytheon" Austin.

in the headlines that the dems are once again suing to keep either RFKjr or Stein (or both) off the ballots in a number of states.

Yawn. Business as usual for the Circle D corporation. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/democrats-allies-sue-to-keep-rfk-jr-off-bal...

It'll be a cold day in hell before any dem gets a vote from this reporter. With the exception of the Senate race, where Lauren Boebert is carpetbagging in my district and I must do what I can to block her, even though it will be unbearably distasteful to do the lesser-evil thing once again. Disgusting.

They have sown the wind: let them reap the whirlwind. I really have, at long last, come to hate the dems even more than the I do repubs, and that is truly saying something. Up until 2016, I was a yellow dog (read "idiot"). Long-held beliefs die hard, and very, very painfully...

@usefewersyllables
It is so painful to realize just how much of what we were told, read and taught was lies.
