Friday Night Photos Cowles Mountain Close-ups Edition
Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any and all photos, memes, or music that trips your trigger.
Needing to shed some excess pounds and being burned out on riding the bike, I recently started hiking up Cowles Mountain, a 1593 ft speed bump on the Earth's surface located in Mission Trails Regional Park, a short drive from where I live. I was pleasantly surprised to see many of the spring wildflowers were still in bloom. On Monday I decided to forgo exercise for photography and tried to capture some of the more interesting looking flowers growing along the trail. I have no clue what type of flowers most of these are other than very small.

The Fu Bao saga
This panda born from parents lent from China, and born in South Korea returned to China a few months ago. After separation from its beloved Korean keeper and two month quarantine it was said to be suffering from depression. The beloved panda is said to be positively responsive to South Korean tourists visiting in China who go to see Fu Bao (because it is missing its trainer?). The large number of spectators who come to see Fu Bao has to be limited.

Outstanding flower photos SP. Love the Monkey Flower. Did you touch the leaves? Sticky. Nothin' like it. The lowest red one, I am pretty sure is Columbine. Been too long now since I did any CA botany. Have replaced it with TX stuff. For summer flowers elevation is key. As spring fades in lowlands, middle altitudes are still going. And when they are over the higher altitudes are best. The high Sierra don't peak until later June and in July. I would expect say up on Mt. Palomar in the drainages along creekbeds (some nice trails there) it is still blooming well or better. A few thousand feet elevation and its peak bloom all over again.

I'll take your word for it that it's sticky. I did look up Columbine but the images didn't look like the flower I posted, which to me kinda look like little megaphones.

It is the leaves of the Monkey Flower that are weirdly sticky. Good ID character.

That must have been a long walk, to have discovered so many different flowering plants. The pleasure of exploring with a camera on a walk is such a satisfying experience. Thank you for all the little things you find and photograph. The last photo is a mystery. It looks like caterpillars or soft fuzzy fern fronds. But then there’s that one last lavender bloom at the top?
Oh, and the music was great! What a voice. The guitar and brass accompaniment wasn't too shabby either. From the first comment on the youtube video you posted ...

The walk wasn't long distance wise, maybe 1.5 miles up and back, but it was long time wise. I spent almost 2 hours slow walking the trail looking for suitable subjects, and I agree, it's very satisfying to go exploring with a camera.

The spider web was taken on a close to frosty morning this week. The Waitakere Ranges of Auckland are a subtropical temperate rainforest. The photo shows a Puriri tree with abundant blooms, a bit unusual for this time of year. It was taken as the sun was setting on a clear day.
Better move underground before you totally melt away, we'd miss you ; ).

well, I learned a lot, being for two weeks in a hospital with a huge bunch of old sick people and a fantastic bunch of caretakers on the hospital floor.for geirtric cased Never experienced more patient folks tham them. And the older the better and the more funny.
First rule, don't believe any of them (them being the doctors and caretakers.. because all they want is to convince you that your brain is not working as it should. the doctors test you constantly. And then they can't handle you, if it the brain is still working, just not in the same way as their's.
OK, it is fine to find you all here. As an advice if you absolurtele need to be sick, just don't choose it be your brain. Because they simply can't handle if your brain is still working as it should.

It seems weird hearing you talk about your storm season beginning in summer. Here in the lower left corner our storm season, such as it is, runs from late fall to early spring. Hope Mother Nature goes easy on you this year.

Our storm/wet season runs late spring to early fall. Winter/dry runs early fall to around early March. With climate crisis, who knows? Hurricane Beryl is heading for the Caribbean, and there are plenty of storm 'seeds' (fronts) coming off the west coast of Africa now. Funsies.

I remember well the afternoon t-storms during the time I spent with my mom in Florida, in summer. They usually were fairly brief flashes in the pan, and then it would feel a bit fresher for a short time before the humidity built up again. I hope the hurricanes stay far out to sea away from you and any land.
You always surprise me mimi,
and make me smile. I can imagine how challenging for your brain and spirit communicating with German hospital doctors can be. You've got them all beat. I'm glad the other helpers provided the human gift of comfort and care.
