A Funhouse Mirror?
New York turning to Mormonland:
In reference to Gaza and the holocaust Israel is inflicting upon the Palestinians, this sarcastic analogy by Caitlin Johnstone about giving New York to the Mormons really hit the spot with me. Depending upon the time we are looking at in history, most any religious group could replace Mormons in her piece, we would just have to change the location as necessary.
Artwork for Johnstone's article from SoundCloud, where you can listen to a reading of the article.
The Current Antisemitism Bill:
Another recent article by RJ Eskow, goes into why the current Antisemitism Bill (which just passed the house) is wrong, dangerous and needs to be stopped. Eskow's Jewish, he is not against the Jewish religion at all, but he is against the Antisemitism Bill. For examples of why he is against the Bill he highlights five obviously true statements this new law would prohibit, which would reduce or eliminate free speech and learning/teaching.
1. "Gaza is a concentration camp."
2. “The creation of Israel involved considerations of race and ethnicity.”
3. “The right of self-determination doesn’t (or shouldn’t) permit the displacement of local populations in favor of people who currently live elsewhere.”
4. “Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.”
5. “Israel is conducting a genocidal campaign in Gaza.”
He goes into detail explaining why each statement is true, and why it would suddenly be illegal to say it, check out the article, it's worth the time!
Eskow finishes his piece with this:
When we studied this (a return to Jerusalem) in Hebrew school, it seemed clear to some of us that the return to Jerusalem was meant to come with the appearance of the Messiah, not through a political declaration. But those of us who raised this question were waved off. Today, many of the world’s most traditional Jews hold the belief that the state of Israel violates scripture and Halakhic law. They, too, could be considered “antisemitic” under this law. These absurdities highlight the bill’s real purpose, which is the state suppression of certain speech.
Despite its name, the “Antisemitism Awareness Act” doesn’t do much to address real antisemitism. And it’s designed to stifle, not promote, “awareness.” It turns the USA’s much-celebrated sense of liberty into a funhouse mirror, a grotesque and distorted reflection of everything this country claims to see in itself. Its passage would make a travesty of everything America's leaders claim to believe in.
A funhouse mirror. That sure seems like modern 'reality' doesn't it?
Some Swing:
This is not quite Zydeco, but it is pretty good blues and swing by a very good band. I kinda wish I was walking the streets of New Orleans too!

Thanks for reading and here's the open thread, along with a needed puppy lick - remember, everything is interesting if you dive deep enough, so tell us about where you're diving!

Remember when you were called a crazy
conspiracy theorist for questioning Diebold's voting machines? Well, msm is scratching their heads about how those machines goofed up an election in Puerto Rico.
Might we one day return to paper ballots? Please?

Heh, in California, not so much. Our secretary
of state once banned Diebold machines for flagrantly violating our election laws. Don't know if it is still in effect or not. As a "permanent absentee" I always get a paper ballot and a ton of options as to how and where to file it.

Is 'optical scanning'
like what Diebold does/did? I don't know. This website, ballotpedia.org, says California uses mail in ballots, hand-marked paper ballots and so on.
I always get mail-in ballots in WA state, but I guess they use touchscreens and such as well. Bleh.

I believe that it was touchscreens, we had them
in some districts for a while. A network of Diebold machines communicated electronically with some third party, I think a local GOP HQ but can't really recall, an hour or so before the polls closed. Somewhere in the greater L.A. area. Strictly forbidden, so the secy of state said no more use of them in CA would be permitted,

Paper Ballots...
Exactly. I hate those diebold machines and any others like them. Just get people to count the votes. Sheez.

The so-called antisemitism awareness act is a
blatant violation of the first amendment both as to freedom of speech and as to freedom of religion. OTOH, it would probably be upheld by the current court, so that is kind of moot.

I can watch this all day
I hope Nikko is still snuggling with you. Sam has snuggled since she was a puppy and I’ll wake up to find her snuggled up to me. Her latest thing is to come wake me at 8 am and I tell her to go to sleep she snuggles with her head on my neck. And when I try to rise up she pushes me back down for more snuggling.

Nikko's snuggles are getting...
more soft, feeling and frequent. He's only 11 weeks old, but he's such a good boy. I had to admit, it'll be great when he's potty trained. But 11 weeks is 11 weeks! Sam sounds so wonderful too. Nikko likes snuggling by my head as I'm waking. I have no idea if he'll do that when's he's like 3 times bigger, we'll see
That video was awesome. That dog was/is amazing!

Awesome videos..
I don't know if I could get Nikko to run up the side of a bridge. But then, he's only 9 pounds right now He does like running up the side of our legs! And any tree trunk around!

good evening, sima, et al!
The song you posted brought back so many memories of my numerous visits to NO.
I wish I could make NO a sort of getaway on a regular basis like I did in the late 80s-early 90s. Good food, good music, always good times. 5 1/2 hour drive mostly on an interstate.
But it has become a very dangerous city that even locals avoid.
Caitlin's analogy was spot on and, despite the subject, pretty damn funny.
Did I just feel an imaginary Nikko face lick? I DID!
I hope your parents are situated in just the right place and environments to finish out their ride on this Ferris Wheel of Life. I always tell people making medical and health and care decisions for others that all you can do is take stock of the situation, get opinions from doctors and health care or elderly care persons, and make the best decision you can. And then, NEVER second guess yourself.
Second guessing is self-torture.
Stand firm, stand tall.
Thanks for the OT, as always.

Unfortunately,
New Orleans being so dangerous now is why I'm not going to visit it again. I wish I could, I was there once, for a short times, many years ago.
Caitlin's piece was great, I think. It made me laugh in an ironic way, and just shake my head, because it's so danged true. As for Nikko licks, enjoy them, I do!
We are starting to settle in to accepting that my Dad is in a good place, and that's the best we can do for him now. SO, it's on to getting the rest of the family settled; my sister and my mother. Fun stuff. But there is a puppy and the weather is decent and life goes on. No second guessing is right!
Thank you so much for your sage advice and thoughts. Have a great Friday and weekend, my friend!

I don’t see how this survives a court challenge. Stupid Zionist captured congress members. What part of the 1st amendment don’t you understand?

I'm afraid...
we are in a money talks kind of situation. And, of course, we have to support Israel and Zionism because... because... ahh, just because. Our PTB certainly seem to be owned by them, don't they?
