Friday Night Photos Garden Edition
Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
It's been a mild spring here in the lower left corner this year. Normally by this time of spring the temps inland from the coast where I live would be hitting the low 80°. So far the temps have been in the low to mid 70s and the morning marine layer that usually burns off around mid morning is sticking around until early afternoon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this summer will be mild too. On the economic front, groceries are still expensive and a gallon of gas was $4.95 when I filled up the other day.
Wednesday of last week the camera club had it's monthly outing at the San Diego Botanical Garden, which, oddly enough, is not actually located in San Diego but about 20 miles north in Encinitas.

Hi, QMS.
Those flowers look similar to hydrangeas and that wildcat is one stone cold kitty.
Thanks for the Willie Nelson. A lot of people have covered Dylan songs over the years.

I also have nice memories of that song
The image that comes to mind is of the love my parents shared.
Nice song
Though it did come out a few years before my time.

Strange as it may seem, an elderly Bob Dylan covered that song!
Thanks lot
His crooning and guitar have an hawaiian feel, no?
Great Dylan selection, Janis

Hi again Q
I continued listening to WUMB into the next day. You were probably in dream land by then. Whoever’s djaying is playing great selections. Thanks again.

What kind of tree is that?

Beautiful photos as usual.
I have no idea what this is, but the field was full of them. Looked for them today, but maybe it’s too early.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Hi, snoopy
The tree with the cool looking yellow blossoms is an Angel Trumpet.
I believe what you have there is thistle.

Hi, otc
They're a pretty tree. Sorry you lost yours. I would think a nursery would be able to get you one.

Hi Social
I can just about feel the softness of the petals because of the clarity of your textures. Your photos are very beautiful, thank you.
I wish you a mild summer season as well.
Thank you, Janis
The camera does all the work. I just try to point it in the right direction.

Thank you el
The second photo is an image of a piece of the Mamaku (tree fern) trunk, with the smoke from a sage stick burning.
I'm sure it's naturally beautiful and intricate textures were and are highly inspirational to Maori carvers and sculptors.
Thanks. Agree on inspirational. n/t

Hi, Janis
Beautiful photos. Excellent lighting on both. The smoke in the second shot is a nice touch.

Beautiful photos as always! So delicate of light. Beautiful.
Thanks!

Hi d
Thank you for that description, it touches my heart.
You be well too
Hola SP, great photos, as usual, especially the third one
and the Brugmansia/Angel's trumpet tree. My wife & I went there not too, too long ago when it was still named Quail Gardens.

Hi, EL
I'm not sure when the name changed. The first time I went there was about 12 years ago and it was still called Quail Gardens then.

An explanation of the name change
They missed eradicating all the California Quails. Some of them live right here!
Thanks for the link, Janis
There's an area close by to where I live where I've seen Quails from time to time.

We see quail sporadically, all over the state, most
recently either Pismo Beach area or East Alameda County in LIvermore. There are a ton out in the Anza-Borrego desert, plus hybrids or crosses with Gambels Quail down there.

The quail
must be very adaptable, to live happily in the harsh conditions of the desert, as well as in milder wet conditions.
Once in a while they nest under my shallow deck in the sand. The babies look like tiny fur balls, and move like children's wind up toys as they race to keep close to mom.
Hi pixelators
Hi all, Hey SP!
GREAT photos as always SP! They are all great! I'm going with #3 for my personal favorite. As Murray and Martin asked each other... "What the hell is that thing??" Very neat1
Here are a couple to remind folks what low- and no- res pix look like...
My botanic garden is the yard and local envorons. I do have 100 species of plants on my yard list, which is two acres of highly disturbed all formerly over-grazed two acres. Can't be 10 trees so most are native wildflowers.
These first two are Mexican Hat. Which can be these two colors, or all maroon. Why did they not just call it Sombrero? Couldn't spell it? One the sepals are all open, the other most are yet to.
This is new for the yard, mysdys spotted it a couple weeks ago. Green Milkweed-Vine aka Pearl Milkweed.
Hope all are well! Happy trails!

Hi, dystopian
Love the bright colors on the Mexican Hat. I bet they attract a lot of insects and hummingbirds.

Thank you for the photos d
I find the geometry of the layers of sepals fascinating. Your botanic garden exhibits a lot of life!
The milkweed vine discovered by mysdys is also fascinating. Both the flowers are somewhat bizarrely structured ; ).
When you are old at heart, the nicest thing, coming back here,
is that you can feel that your heart gets young again.
Good to see you all again.
Here in my woods, there is water everywhere around. I am having enough of all the water. I want everything dry for a change.
Be well all !

Good to see you back. Hope things dry up soon.

Hi mimi!
You just made my heart get younger.
I wish you a forever young heart even if the rest is not as vigorous.
There's always Leonard to lift your heart even if it doesn't make it feel younger.
I hope to see you soon again
Beautiful Flowers & a trip down memory lane...
I remember going to that botanical garden all of once, but the shot of the waterfall brought back a few memories. I moved out to California from the Midwest, with my then-GF, back in 1985. Stayed for seven years, pursuing a career path that went mostly nowhere. Moved back here in 1992, for love. But the botanical gardens, both in S.D., and just North of S.B. (which we re-Christened Saint Babs, or alternately, Saint Boo-Boo), stuck in my mind, along with some of those magnificent vistas that CA affords. The Sierras, PCH, Joshua Tree Nat. Monument, the deserts both high and low, the view from on top of Mt Tamalpias, or looking up from the base of Mt. Shasta, and Yosemite in Winter, with only about a dozen other people in the park... Wish I had pictures of all those places, but the only camera I had at the time was a polaroid; not really suited for landscapes!
Thank you, Socialprogressive, for these beautiful photos!

Hi, AP
California is not without its faults (San Andreas), but natural beauty is not one of them.
Glad I could bring back some good memories.
