Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
With all the recent problems in the aircraft and airline industry in the news these days, I thought since I haven't been to the San Diego Air and Space Museum in a half dozen years, a visit was in order. I'm happy to say, while I was there no door plugs blew out, no panels fell off, no engines flamed out and no emergency landings were required. It wasn't all rainbows and lollypops though, as they once again managed to lose my luggage.

had a model Stuka dive bomber as a kid
with a tiny engine on a string harness to fly
around tethered by strings. Didn't last long.
Once it got up to speed, total faceplate.
Didn't anticipate the dive aspect at the time.

I played around with the small gas engine fly by wire planes when I was in my early teens. I believe Cox built the Stuka. It was a handful to fly. I know I wrecked more than one.

Nice plane photos. I don't recall seeing any of them before. The port side landing gear on that F-18 looks a little askew.

Re: the landing gear: That is normal retraction, they are not simultaneous as many planes. It was just off the ground a second or few. Was an AB (afternburner) short-strip takeoff from Hawthorne Airport in L.A.! It was so low when it passed over me I felt a nanosecond heat-flash. As fast as I could advance film and wheel around and regain target I got one shot of it going away with tailpipe flame but AB was already off. Shooting airshows is great fun if you ask me. Best if you can have the right light angle (not usually), blue skies, and a good uncluttered background.

Looking at those old planes
brought back some very fond, and very old, childhood memories. I remember being about 5-6 and riding the D.C.-LaGuardia Shuttle (pre-JFK I. A.) aboard the old turboprop commercial Constellations. I just had to have a window seat. I'm sure I drove my parents nuts! LOL. That was going to see my father's family on Long Island. My maternal grandfather, on the other hand, worked the graveyard shift for Pan Am at Miami International. When we came down for a visit, he would take me to a spot at the end of one of the runways on his days off. We would watch the early commercial jets take off. You sure as h3ll's bells can't do it now!! I was in absolute little kid heaven.

What great memories. Factoid. The Constellation was built in Southern California.
I was 6-7 the first time I flew. It was on a Douglas DC-6. I went with my dad on a flight from San Fransisco to Fresno to visit his dad. In those days everybody wore their Sunday best when they flew.
