Friday Night Photos Sea And Shore Bird Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 03/08/2024 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
The monthly water bill came today. $106. Of that, only $15 is for the amount of water used. The rest is for such things as consumption charge, infrastructure charge, system charge, sewer base rate. I'd love to cut my water bill in half but even if I used no water at all I'd still be paying $91 a month. Oh the joys of living in paradise.
While we're on the subject of water, here are some sea and shore birds from last month's visit to La Jolla Cove.

not much eye candy there

you make the day brighter
Hi, QMS.
Having only seen Brown Pelicans here on the west coast, I was surprised when I found out the ones on the east coast and gulf coast were not as colorful in their breeding colors as they are here.
Glad I could help make your day brighter.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
Aside from the bills you are lucky to use your photographic
skills in an area that gives you an opportunity to find such colorful and varied subjects.
Hi, humphrey
All the varied photo opportunities coupled with nice weather most of the year make it worth the cost of living here.

Hi pixelators
Hi all, Hey SP!
Great bird photos SP! I love those Heermann's Gull, the dark body and white head the opposite of so many gulls. Although a few have nested in CA rarely, generally, it nests in Mexico and moves north into the U.S. in late summer to fall, spending the winter on socal coasts, and going south in spring back to Mexico to nest. Whereas most gulls migrate north to nest. It is really a one-off amongst our gulls.
Here are some of the corals one of my clients just got a couple weeks ago. They are from Fiji. His pix after they settled in a bit.
This is a Lobophyllia sps.
The red one is a Favia sps., the bright green one a Favites sps.
Lobophyllia sps. on left, Favia sps. on right.
names given are the genus of that coral.
Hope all are having good ones!
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

Hi, dystopian
Beautiful looking coral.
Thanks for all the info on the Heermann's gull.

But it goes up every year now that I can’t get my property tax lowered. It seems that every gd thing keeps going up while income doesn’t keep pace.
Love the pelicans. Another thing I miss being in land locked Utah.
The building in this article has been in my view looking west since I was born. In fact back when I was learning photography and doing black and white I took pictures of it from different angles. I still have a few framed and hanging on my wall. Just sad.

Drove to SLC today and took the mountain road which used to be all types of farms and orchards…there was one remaining orchard, but it’s been bulldoozed and another fcking apartment is going up. The farms out west where I could see eagles are now all housing. Only Ogden valley still has open land, but even that is going.

Hi, snoopy
If there's prime land somewhere, somebody will want to build on it.
This is Fanita Ranch. It's a 10 min walk from my house. It's owned by Home Fed bank. They want to build 3,000 homes here. So far the local residents have been able to keep that from happening.

Excellent photos, gang. Everytime I think of
pelicans, it's making sure I'm not underneath a crew of them flying overhead. My sister was one time, and had the bad luck of getting hit with a smelly gift of avian fecal matter. That one shot of the pelican with its head lying flat on its back is amazing. What a contortionist! snoopy, there's an article in the current issue of Rolling Stone about the Colorado River in Utah. The drought has affected it to the point where it's reverting back to its original flow path. That's opening up new rapids and canyons. Hopefully, it will be allowed to flourish in its new state. I didn'y realize how big the Colorado River is. Definitely gives the Mississippi a run for the title of largest U.S. river. Hope everyone is well. Going into summer here. Means another storm season is on the horizon. Yech! Rec'd!!
