Friday Night Photos Royal Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 02/16/2024 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
Nothing much new or exciting going on here. We had a week of sunshine and temps in the upper 60's. There was rain forecast for this weekend but since it's a holiday weekend somebody rescheduled it for Tuesday. That was nice of them.
The Royal Terns are in town spending their time hanging out at La Jolla Cove.

is very dynamic. Brilliant.
Thanks!
PS .. the Terns around here are tiny little things

Hi, QMS.
The Pinnipeds below the Tern are Sea Lions. The seals have their own beach they like to hang out at just a little south of the cove.

Oh, sea lions.

Thanks for explaining that. We have quite a few big blubbery seals
that over winter on the rocks off the point. Only spot them with a
scope. Amazing critters.

I saw this on naked capitalism and I love the composition.

Hi, snoopy
Beautiful reflection shot. I like the composition, too.
Hope you and Sam are doing well.

Hi pixelators
Hi all, hey SP!
Outstanding tern photos SP! Love that Tommy Bolin, have a couple from that era on cassette.
About the birds, ya know as they say, one good tern deserves another!
This photo shoot must have been a real tern-on!
Q: What did one tern say to the other tern as it passed the joint?
A: Leave no tern un-stoned.
I'll be here all week...
Here is a quickie grabshot.
It was my first fresh emergence new butterfly of the year this week. A few over-wintering here are last years' leftovers, worn, worse for the wear and tear, not fresh new bugs, ergo signs of spring. It is a male Black Swallowtail, which led me to my first flower of the year. But which is non-native and introduced, so not a native wildflower. The flower was Henbit, which is native to Europe, but is widely naturalized throughout America.
Hope all are well!
Remember to have good ones!

Hi, dystopian
I'll be sure to tip my waiter.
Beautiful looking Swallowtail. It's been a while since I've seen any around here.

You all are upping your game (pic quality).
The photos are starting to reflect a painting-like image. Sp, all your photos are great, but my fave is the first one. Glad to hear your region is handling the heavy rainfall well, at least so far. I'm an email member of Audubon FL, and their latest newsletter has a beautiful award-winning photo of a Tricolored Heron. I love herons and egrets, but this heron is special cos of its coloring. Also, Audubon is reporting decent eco news out of Tallahassee. That's a welcomed switch!!!!! Rainy day here in the old Peninsula: cool front heading our way. So, hope everyone is well. Rec'd!!

Hi, orlbucfan
According to distribution maps, we do have Tricolored Herons in the SoCal area during their nonbreeding season. I don't know when their nonbreeding season is. What I do know is, I've never seen one.
Stay warm and dry.

Not exactly a perfect match but here it is anyway.
Hi, humphrey
Nice selection. It's a very good match. Thanks for posting it.
