January 29 is nothing in particular, so let's honor Liliuokalani

~~ “Spirit of Liliuokalani” a statue of Queen Lili‘uokalani sculpted by Marianna Pineda

I'm just going to crib from da Wiki here:

Liliʻuokalani (Hawaiian pronunciation: [liˌliʔuokəˈlɐni]; Lydia Liliʻu Loloku Walania Kamakaʻeha; September 2, 1838 – November 11, 1917) was the only queen regnant and the last sovereign monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom, ruling from January 29, 1891, until the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom on January 17, 1893. The composer of "Aloha ʻOe" and numerous other works, she wrote her autobiography Hawaiʻi's Story by Hawaiʻi's Queen during her imprisonment following the overthrow.

Though England had recognized Hawaii's sovereignty, that meant nothing to the imported sociopaths like Dole, Thurston and Jones who forced King Kalakaua to sign an illegitimate constitution essentially at gunpoint. This Bayonet Constitution transferred power from the monarchy to a sleazy collection of Americans, Europeans, and selected Hawaiians. When she became queen Liliuokalani abrogated that constitution and began drafting a new one which would restore power to the monarchy and restore the voting rights of the economically disenfranchised. This resulted in a coup d'etat of pro-US interests supported by a detachment of US Marines who were allegedly "supporting US interests". As always and forever, US Interests were not the interests of any normal US people, but of banksters, corporations and corporatists, the very wealthy and the powerful. The queen was placed under house arrest and held in that condition for slightly over 2 years whereupon she was forced to abdicate. She continued to try to work for the good of Hawaii and its people, but it was far too late in the day. The US transition from Manifest Destiny to global Total Spectrum Dominance was well underway and there was no way that a small island nation could remain free and self governing when it was just there for the taking.

The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal used horribly false and fraudulent advertising to con people into horribly dangerous low-paying work. When the workers began to organize US President Andy Jackson sent in federal troops to suppress the organizing efforts on January 29, 1834. This set a horrible precedent with respect to federal, state and local interactions with labor, labor organizers and organized labor as well as a precedent as to fraud and false advertising so long as the victims were mere hoi polloi and not banksters, brokers, corporations and the like.

Another example of the inequity cultivated by the empire.
Now that the US is losing in their efforts at 'full spectrum dominance'
it seems the WEF will step into the void with their own version.

As if it is not obvious to the half-aware US population, our present bunch
of government institutions apparently think WEF and WHO are the next best
process to continue their agenda.

A few wrenches are now thrown into the works. States challenging fed mandates,
truckers descending en mass to the southern borders, military capabilities
exposed as half-assed, US products failing to perform as advertised, etc.

Team Biden is being backed into a corner with their ridiculous choices. Next up
will be a major blow to the banking scam being perpetrated by the Fed.
Interesting times indeed.

Hi all, Buenos tardes EL!

I can totally get behind Curmudgeon Day. A friend had that as his title on his biz card.

Isn't it Freethinker Day every day here at C99?

H.L. Mencken was great, so was Willie Dixon.

This song is one of those Texas troubadour bands, I think, a fair bit of them was played on 'outlaw' and 'rebel' radio in Texas. Song is about a heartbreak, but great vocal back and forth between the two singers . The band is very good. There is a subtle clue as to where one might find EL in it.

Hope all is well out there folks!

So, Monday will be gone in 6 hours, and so far, we have not gone to war with Iran.
Maybe our luck will continue.
Have a great vacation, El!

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

Thanks for mentioning Teresa Teng's birth date today EL. I first heard her song The Moon Represents my Heart when Chu Yon-mi performed it in South Korea. Teng was so popular in South Korea Ms. So knows the song in Mandarin by heart.

I had listened to a couple of Teng's other songs but didn't know her interest in Chinese classical poetry themes until I read the wikipedia entry on this-

Teng's contract with Polydor ended in 1981, and she signed a contract with Taurus Records in 1983 and made a successful comeback appearance in Japan. That same year, Teng released her most critically acclaimed album, Dandan youqing, translated as Light Exquisite Feeling, which sets 12 poems from the Tang and Song dynasties into music, blending modern and traditional styles. It became her first album to include entirely new songs, without any covers. The most popular single from the album is "Wishing We Last Forever".[41] Teng apparently felt a deep attachment to the mainland, as she immersed herself in the classics of the Tang and Song periods.[48] In a television special, Teng spoke of her desire to contribute to the transmission of "Chinese" culture. Dressed in her period clothing, she commented:

I have one small wish. I hope everyone will like these songs so that the flourishing begonias within China's 10 million square kilometres and the treasures of this 5000-year old culture can be handed down generation through song. And through this, I hope our posterity will never forget the happiness, sadness, and glory of being a "Chinese" person.[49]

Teresa Teng

Per wiki this is most popular song from that album which is highly regarded by reviewers. I really like this translation-

This is a better translation of the Chinese lyrics. The video is blocked. The song is very beautiful I recommend watching it on youtube.

EL, thanks for reminding me of Theresa Teng. Kept me engaged for a several hours on something other than the current unfolding horrors.

(edit had some trouble posting the videos. think I have it now)
