Arrogance and Ignorance

Open Thread Image.jpg

Today's title is a description of US/Western leadership courtesy of Col Larry Wilkerson in his 40 min conversation with Dima. Larry was also on with the Judge this week discussing Blinky at Davos. I've been describing US diplomacy as just threats and sanctions. It isn't just the US. Did you catch any of the WEF arrogance and ignorance on display this week?

Another misattributed quote. Evidently any quote that sounds wise must have been from Albert?

Jeffery was also on with the judge discussing one of my pet peeves...the mafia branch of our government, the CIA. (37 min)

The CIA creates most of the US wars, coups, and assassinations around the world, and has for the last several decades.

This speaker at Hillside College makes the argument that the CIA is a threat to our constitution. In fact he asks "Do we have a constitution anymore?" (16 min)

Gaza, Yemen & Ukraine Sound Death Knell for U.S.-Led ‘Rules-Based Global Order’

The world has reached a point of no return. The fraud of Western powers is spectacularly exposed and has become untenable.
Whatever moral authority or superiority Western states may have presumed to have had in the past, all that is now shredded – irreparably.
The hypocrisy and duplicity of the United States and its Western allies have been perceived for many years, indeed centuries. There is nothing new in that. But what is new now is how glaringly obvious to the world the fraudulent pretense has become. Global consciousness is, in turn, leading to global contempt.
There is, too, an unmistakable sense that Western leaders have become aware of their charade having been rumbled and of their imminent downfall.
...
The massive crimes in Gaza, Yemen, and Ukraine are an integral part of the Western “rules-based order”. It is an object lesson of the same root cause. That is, the Western imperialist system, headed by the United States.
The world has reached a point of no return. The fraud of Western powers is spectacularly exposed and has become untenable. The Western imperial facade is imploding from its inherent corruption. It is a perilous time but the harsh truth can set the world free of hegemony and the systemic violence of Western elitist power.

The west no longer passes the global sniff test.

Q Are the airstrikes in Yemen working?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, when you say “working,” are they stopping the Houthis? No. Are they going to continue? Yes.
Now what is the definition of insanity?

Caity nails it in her recent piece, Welcome to the Empire.

Welcome to the empire
Where genocide is self-defense and peace rallies are genocide
Where war criminals are the victims and the hospitals are Hamas
Where calls for freedom are hateful and ceasefires are anti-semitic
Where civilians get called terrorists and real terrorists get Nobel Peace Prizes
Where the propaganda is journalism and the journalism is propaganda
Where the democracy is real and the apartheid is imaginary
Where the corporations are people and the people are corporate resources

The whole piece is excellent IMO.

The world’s reaction to Israel’s ICJ case for war on Gaza

The ICJ hearings have drawn scorn as well as shock from Israel’s media punditry. In the West, however, the case has emboldened journalists to ask tougher questions of the Israeli narrative.

At least there are a few that call out the arrogance and ignorance...

However the funniest comedy this week was the shitlibs heads exploding when Trump overwhelmingly won the Iowa caucus.

The whole 20 min clip is funny, but the mash up only takes 3 min...well worth your time.

I thought I would conclude today with a couple of gardening videos and a travelogue to a Russian province.

I've often featured Jim Kovaleski a market gardener based in Florida. Well, he's turning that suburban farm over to a younger farmer and heading up to Maine to be with his family.
Urban Farmer Jim Kovaleski Returns from Maine with Mixed News... (49 min)
Jim Kovaleski is back from Maine for the 2024 Winter + Spring growing Season in New Port Richey, Florida. With Tanner living on the Farm full time, it has allowed for the crops to get a head-start this year and for some new experimentation compared to the way Jim has farmed here previously.

How He Turned Desert Sand Into Fertile Farm Land (15 min)
John Graham is a specialist in desert farming who has taught hundreds of farmers how to run profitable organic farms. He has 30 years experience creating farms out of arid sand in Mexico's desert region of Baja California, successfully transforming sand into fertile soil to cultivate a large variety of vegetables. He worked for many years as an organic farm inspector and co-founded Baja's organic market that's been running for two decades.
John's home garden is a highly abundant paradise of fruits and vegetables and although he has been in a wheelchair for 25 years after a road accident, he has constructed a system of ramps and paths all around his property so he can access his incredible garden.

I learned a few months ago Russia had a Jewish province, but didn't know about this Buddhist one.
Traveling through Eastern Europe's Buddhist republic... on a camel. (17 min)

400 years ago the descendants of Mongolian Oirats (The Kalmyks) migrated to Europe. They created the Kalmyk Khanate from 1635 to 1779 in the south of the European part of Russia territory. Today they form a majority in Kalmykia, located in the Kalmyk Steppe, on the western shore of the Caspian Sea. They are the only traditionally Buddhist people who are located within Europe.

Maybe we should learn more about our so called enemies. We might discover that we are really friends.

Hope you are all doing well and staying warm. A chilly 13F here this morning, but headed into the 60's next week.

Arrog & Ignor-ances are a dangerous combination. Not a good look on the world stage.
With embarrassing players like Biden, Blinken, Kirby, Harris, Nikki and Vicky leading the
show, it is like a tragicomedy. If the US wasn't so hell-bent on destroying the world with
their bombs and black ops to promote their twisted dream of world dominance, you
could imagine the ROW simply ignoring the empire wannabes as a bad joke.

Speaking of distractions, with the wind today it is 0 degrees F. 'Real feel' = tundra.

Alex always finishes his clips with a clown world. It has gotten to the point where most of the news is a clown world. It is so obvious, the rest of the world sees it easily. If the ICJ let's Israel get by with genocide, it will kill any credibility that the court has. I'm looking forward to their ruling.

Anyway, enough with the pleasantries. You are here for fake news you can trust, and that's exactly what you're going to get. Just don't forget to add us as a contact so we land in your inbox.

As for:

Another misattributed quote. Evidently any quote that sounds wise must have been from Albert?

who knows? Albert may well have said it, consciously or unconsciously parroting or paraphrasing somebody else. At some point in time I started adding a quote from somebody born on the month and day of my ot as well as someone who died on said date. I pick 2 or 3 likelu suspects from each and search for quotes. Recurrent ideas, themes and aphorisms pop up all the time, as various folks from every era and walk of life come to or enunciate the same conclusion about some aspect of reality; some surprisingly far back in time.

Today we have rain in the forecast but not falling. These days are sort of a pisser because one doesn't know if one should start various outdoor chores or projects or not. Leftover pizza for dinner, so what's left is dreary desk and office work, bank recs, budgeting funds and time, updating all sorts of files and spreadsheets, and all that kind of stuff. ptui.

about poet Naomi Shihab Nye: https://www.texasobserver.org/palestinian-american-poet-naomi-shihab-nye...

What Shihab Nye says here is just basic, very simple, completely understandable and so obvious. In a nutshell, her story is one about a family who only want to live in their own home, in their own community, in their own country. The unjust appropriation of their home tears apart the fabric of community and the feeling of security. All other people have to do, is simply imagine themselves in that position and then the travesty that it is, is clearly revealed.

Thank you for the OT Lookout, hope all is well on the farm.

Thanks for the poet and her story.

Before I Was A Gazan by Naomi Shihab Nye

I was a boy
and my homework was missing,
paper with numbers on it,
stacked and lined,
I was looking for my piece of paper,
proud of this plus that, then multiplied,
not remembering if I had left it
on the table after showing to my uncle
or the shelf after combing my hair
but it was still somewhere
and I was going to find it and turn it in,
make my teacher happy,
make her say my name to the whole class,
before everything got subtracted
in a minute
even my uncle
even my teacher
even the best math student and his baby sister
who couldn’t talk yet.
And now I would do anything
for a problem I could solve.

All is well in the holler. Plenty of winter chores remain. Pruning needs to move up toward the top. Tomorrow covers come of winter crops. I'm curious to see how they look after a week covered with mulch, covers and tarps.

...from which came that short take by Larry. After watching need to note the following-

Saving land attack missiles to attack China-

The notion of attacking China is as absurd as the rest of this situation.

Discussion of there only being four deployed carriers-

Clearly, there is some misunderstanding among these ground pounders about carrier rotations and how they work.

Ray's concluding assessment that Iran can destroy Israel in the event that it is attacked- What comes after that begins to happen? The same thing that would happen if the US, Japan and or South Korea began "destroying North Korea." A nuclear attack in response. Israel is a nuclear armed state, this should affect US national security judgement and the decision making. I'm not saying this in any way to excuse what is going on in Gaza or the West Bank, it's just a major factor that requires analysis. Perhaps Ray is alluding to this, but I would raise this issue openly.

I liked Cyrus' presentation below concerning the US unipolar obsession and China the global south-

The article linked in the X post below concerns diplomacy or the complete lack thereof with North Korea and what George Kennan would advise-

There's been quite a bit of discussion in South Korea about the impact of the Carlin and Hecker article Is North Korea Preparing for War at 38North.org. Some analysts feel it caused an exodus of foreign capital from the KOSPI stock exchange last week due to "Korea risk." The Yoon administration which has taken a hostile posture toward North Korea to appeal to its old age demographic support supposedly has a 35 percent approval rating. I've discussed before how the polls are not trustworthy particularly in light of the radical rightward move of the government which causes people to be reluctant to express their opinions. One independent poll put "trust in Yoon" as an issue, he scored 22percent on trustworthiness. Tim Shorrock has a couple of tweets on the war with North Korea issue which got some high profile US media coverage as well, WP and NYT. I didn't read those, I understand they may be behind pay walls.

Yoon is hiding from press conferences because of his wife's ongoing ethical/corruption issues, and also because his bodyguards assaulted and carried away a national assembly member from one of the small parties who dared to tell Yoon he needed to change his policies while shaking his hand at a public venue.

From Hankyoreh-

Based on the explanations provided by the presidential office and the Jinbo Party and video footage of the event, Yoon arrived at the Sori Arts Center in Jeonju, where a ceremony celebrating North Jeolla’s new status as a special self-governing state was being held, at 11 am on Thursday and went around shaking hands with lawmakers from the region and other people in attendance.

As Kang, who represents Jeonju-B, shook hands with Yoon, he said, “You’ve got to change your approach to governance.” When Kang refused to let go of Yoon’s hand and tried to say more, several security agents forcibly removed his hand, allowing Yoon to move away. Then one of the security agents placed a hand over Kang’s mouth while multiple other agents carried him out of the hall with his arms and legs in the air.

Thanks for the Weekly Watch LO. I often enjoy South Korean produced travelogues on the many Asian cultures. Virtually all of these are Mongolia and southward with a lot of emphasis on southeast Asia. Some of that Kalmyk video looks and sounds familiar. I think maybe I've only seen one visiting Vladivostok. I like to listen to Buddhism presentations occasionally. Also, Daoism, Confucianism, and their interrelationships. This week we watched a very interesting travelogue on Vietnam in which one of the tourist attractions was an underground village tunnel network that the Vietnamese used during the Vietnam War. I'll note here that US military technology was overrated during that war too. Vietnamese anti-aircraft tactics and missiles, were underestimated as well. We're supposed to forget all that. I can't remember which village it was, but the guide claimed "every village" had such a tunnel network. This really was just one part of the program, the rest was food, architecture, temples, family life, etc., which was more pleasant.

Yes, I'm a big believer in understanding the other side's point of view. Prevents a lot of unnecessary conflict. I was a big Bernard Fall fan, back in the Vietnam War era. James Bradley renewed my interest in more recent years. He collaborated with John Pilger on the Coming War with China. I'm still amazed at the popularity in the US of the "I hate China" meme on youtube and elsewhere. I don't understand how literate people can fall for that crap or the rest of it on Russia, Palestine, etc. I'm so over it.

I like the Dao principle of Wu Wei 無為 Doing Nothing. I understand the new president of Taiwan "William" Lai, was quite diplomatic in his comments upon being elected concerning relations with China. I saw a lot of bs on social media about what a great blow this was to China. Carl Zha and his friend who lives in Taiwan discussed how the election there really didn't change much. Much of it is my age...or more the age of my friends. They bought in and to roughly quote Twain, "It is easier to lie to someone than convinced them they've been lied to". Or as Chas Freeman said, When people inhale their own propaganda they become deluded.

That was a good conversation with Carl Zha and his friend from Taiwan. My sister spent a couple of years there and I was surprised to hear her take of the situation. However, she told me the grammar school kids pay $30,000/yr for tuition. That is a self selecting pro-western class crowd. At any rate she felt like most people there were pro-western.

Re MM, about whom I had a recent spirited exchange w my housemate who viewed her as just a slut for powerful men, the few honest authors and researchers are far outnumbered by the dubious ones with lively imaginations who constitute a rather large Marilyn industry where almost any salacious story gets published, no matter how poorly sourced.

Israeli forces have destroyed at least 1,000 mosques during their ongoing genocidal war against the Gaza Strip while desecrating dozens of cemeteries, the territory's officials say.

The Palestinian Information Center quoted Gaza's Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs as providing the information in a statement on Sunday.

"The Israeli occupation forces have destroyed more than 1,000 out of 1,200 mosques in the territory since October 7 last year," the ministry said, adding that reconstruction of those mosques would cost around $500 million.

The Palestinian ministry added that the Israeli aggression has also destroyed a number of churches across Gaza, including the historical Greek Orthodox Church, as well as Zakat religious committees, schools for teaching the Holy Qur'an, and the headquarters of the Endowment Bank.

Israeli forces have assassinated more than 100 religious scholars, preachers, imams, and muezzins who announce the Muslim call to prayer, since the onset of their military onslaught, the report noted.

In the same context, the ministry pointed out that the Israeli aggression has led to desecration and destruction of dozens of cemeteries and graves where dead bodies were stolen in clear violation of all international laws and human rights.
