~~ Mount Shasta

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Famously went to the moountain. Sir Edmund Hilary famously summited the mountain. Tenzing Norgay famously led Hilary and others up the mountain. These were not all the same mountain. In fact, it is never the same mountain. Just as one can never step in the same river twice, one cannot climb the same mountain twice. In fact, the mountain one comes down is not the mountain one went up.

@enhydra lutris up in Colorado, staring at the peaks, except for this irritating thing known as "work".
I hope you get a great report from the Doc.
Boy, is it every Monday. I almost had to call the cops on some 30ish yr old man. His Mom sort of got him under control, and he did leave. She was just humiliated by his behavior, made apologies.
Can't wait for the next 2 appointments. With luck, they will be oldsters, well past their fly off the handle days.

@enhydra lutris on Google, and when I tell them something that differs from their Google legal research, they go nuts. Or, it is drug-related inability to control their anger, whether illegal or legal drugs. I have begun to decline cases where young people, and that means under age 50 to me, are taking anti-anxiety and anti-depression meds. When they are triggered, they are like damn wild animals. I decline cases where the client is a PTSD veteran. They reach for weapons in their heads. Those guys have exploded in the courtroom, had to be taken to their vehicles by the security guards. Enough of that shit.

la da da, la da da,

Hi all, Hey EL!

Hope all is well all over yonder ...

That Mt. Shasta is a beauty! Very impressive to drive by since so much a stand alone mountain. But I have never been on it.

The Stones Rock & Roll Circus is great. The Yer Blues with Lennon, Clapton and Mitch Mitchell is awesome. So is Jethro Tull with Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) on guitar, as they were between Mick Abrahams and Martin Barre. Then the Who performance was amazing, esp. 'A quick one while he's away', with Entwistle doing the falsetto harmonies in his opera voice. Mind blowing.

Here are a couple 'mountain' knee jerk reactions to add... Smile

Misty Mountain Hop

Hall of the Mountain King - The Who (best thrash of a classic evah)

We had 26f here this morn, below 30N.

Third winter consecutive here with drought induced failures of fruit, nut, juniper or hack-, berry crops. The birds are simply elsewhere. Always amazing to see a few butterflies out in the 60f after it froze. Ten Robins came in a few weeks ago, counted berries for a few days and left. I hear there is a bit of a crossbill irruption going on in CA lately.

Seein' anything EL? Have anything on yer trip to central coast?

have good ones all!

Pismo Beach State Park Monarch Grove. This is the first time we've been down there at this time of year. Numbers for Pellies, Gulls and Cormorants were significantly lower than in spring and summer, presumed to be a seasonal thing. We tend to spend afternoon/evening on the balcony sipping vino, and turned up one lone otter for marine mammals. A handful of surfers north of the pier, even though the surf there was el sucko, beats me. Humans way down too, indoor seating available at favorite chowder place, another day went to a beach side restaurant on the Pismo/Grovers Beach border with hardly anybody there. (Santa Maria style Tri-Tip sandwich on a hunk of sourdough baguette washed down with a local Barbera-Sangiovese blend.

Crossbills - Todays RBA:

Red Crossbill (6 Contra Costa, 1 Los Angeles, 1 San Diego, 2 San Francisco, 7 Santa Barbara, 4 Santa Clara)
Red Crossbill (Western Hemlock or type 3) (1 Los Angeles)
Red Crossbill (Ponderosa Pine or type 2) (1 Los Angeles, 2 Santa Cruz)
Red Crossbill (Sitka Spruce or type 10) (1 Humboldt)

So would've had a chance about 10 miles out crow canyon Rd than down in Central Coast. Looks like this is the northern limit. Too bad our conifers blew down in last new year's superstorm, I don't think our Juniper or the neighborhood Redwoods will attract them.

Thanks for the tunes. I was just listening to that mountain king a couple of weeks ago.

@enhydra lutris Hi EL!

Wow, sounds a great trip! Great you got to see some Monarchs! CA TriTip is pretty darn good. So is the chowder in them parts. The place on the right side as you walk out Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey is the bomb. Those big round bread bowls of chowder, and often otters out the window.

There is some cemetery in San Mateo Co. they recorded 4 call/tree types of Crossbill at. Including the first of the recently split Cassia Crossbill ever in the state of CA. We had an invasion here a few winters ago, I forget which type, I think one of the generalists, and which can eat Cypress tree cones. Which I thought were fairly similar to Redwoods maybe? But I don't think there is a 'redwood' crossbill, so maybe they are not used.

take care man!
