Unprovoked Attacks...

A Heaping Helping of Hypocrisy

Open Thread Image.jpg

Unprovoked attacks by Russia on Ukraine and now Hamas on Israel....kinda like Native Americans unprovoked attacks on white European settlers. The judge asked Dr. Mearsheimer this week about current western leadership and he replied that the young today lack empathy and a sense of history. Sadly people analyze these conflicts emotionally rather than rationally. In retrospect, was the US provoked to invade Iraq...or Libya...or Syria...or...

Like most issues, the Israel - Palestine conflict is charged. I must admit to having a bias. I can't help but be with kids throwing rocks as soldiers shoot them. I can't help but be with the natives whose 1000 year old olive groves and homes are dozed down. So I wanted to be up front with my slant. That being said I can't condone the murder of innocent civilians on either side.

This is emotional tribalism rather than rational thought, to my mind...
Pro-Israel demonstrators call for genocide in New York City (3 min)

Israel Issues HUGE THREAT to Hamas! | Max Blumenthal (48 min)
Go to 20:40 to skip the history lesson. Max goes deep on bloody history between Palestine and Israel and the rise of Hamas for the first 20 minutes. Stephen Gardner hosts Max Blumenthal to discuss the coming hot war as the United States and Israel gear up to attack Hamas. Hezbollah and Iran are ready to pounce to back Hamas and get back at US for blocking $6 billion in frozen funds. Hostage Negotiations have begun with many countries involved. Hamas is a gang within Palestine that wants to attack Israel. Palestine suffers because of the actions of Hamas. Blumenthal tries to explain the complex relationship of Palestine and Israel while not desecrating the horrible attack events this past week.

Killing Gaza (1.6 hours)
In Killing Gaza, journalists Dan Cohen and Max Blumenthal documented Israel’s 2014 war on Gaza. Yet this film is much more than a documentary about Palestinian resilience and suffering. It is a chilling visual document of war crimes committed by the Israeli military, featuring direct testimony and evidence from the survivors. "Max Blumenthal and Dan Cohen’s powerful new film, 'Killing Gaza,' offers an unflinching and moving portrait of a people largely abandoned by the outside world, struggling to endure." - Pulitzer-prize winning journalist, best-selling author and activist Chris Hedges.

"The occupation is against human nature. It flies in the face of what it is to be human."

Gaza Fights For Freedom (1.4 hours)

This debut feature film by journalist Abby Martin began while reporting in Palestine, where she was denied entry into Gaza by the Israeli government on the accusation she was a propagandist. So Abby connected with a team of journalists in Gaza to produce the film through the blockaded border.
It is a documentary about the historic Great March Of Return protests, which occurred every week from March 2018 until December 2019, but covers so much more.
It tells the story of Gaza past and present, showing rare archival footage that explains the history never acknowledged by mass media. You hear from victims of the ongoing massacre, including journalists, medics and the family of internationally-acclaimed paramedic, Razan al-Najjar.

At its core, ˜Gaza Fights For Freedom™ is a thorough indictment of the Israeli military for war crimes with exclusive documentary evidence and a stunning cinematic portrayal of Palestinians' heroic resistance.

Norman Finkelstein did a series of interviews this week on Jimmy Dore with Pasta as host.

Here’s What You NEED To Know About Gaza’s History w/ Norman Finkelstein (13 min)
Talking heads on television and the Internet all seem to have a wealth of opinions about the recent Hamas attacks and Israeli reprisals, yet actual understanding of the detailed history of Gaza is often wanting. Professor Norman Finkelstein breaks down some of the key background that’s essential to understanding what led Israel and the Palestinians into this conflict.

The Palestinians Had NO OTHER OPTIONS – Norman Finkelstein (20 min)
Reports describing the violence during the recent assault by Hamas fighters on Israel have been nothing short of shocking. Also shocking, however, has been the treatment of Palestinians for more than half a century by Israeli occupiers.

Bernie & The Squad Are “A Disgrace” On Gaza – Norman Finkelstein (8.5 min)
In response to Hamas’ Operation Al-Aqsa Flood which killed hundreds of Israelis and wounded thousands of others, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised a swift and brutal response and instructed his constituents to expect a long war. Meanwhile in the United States even the most progressive politicians, Bernie Sanders and AOC among them, have come to Israel’s defense and insisted the U.S. support Israel however it opts to respond.

U.S. Politicians Call For Wipeout Of Gaza! (21 min)
So many U.S. politicians have demonstrated their sheer bloodthirstiness over the War in Ukraine that it should come as no surprise that many of them are calling for virtural genocide against the people of Gaza in response to this past weekend’s Hamas attacks inside Israel. Current and former elected officials including Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Nikki Haley and Lindsey Graham have all expressed support for Israel to visit an all-out campaign of military destruction on Gaza and carte blanche to respond however the leaders of the Jewish State see fit.

They’re Cutting Off Water To 1 Million Children In Gaza (25 min)
In response to this past weekend’s attacks on Israel by Hamas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the country was now at war and that Gaza would be subject to unprecedented violence in the coming days. Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called for a "complete siege" on the enclave, insisting "We are fighting animals and are acting accordingly.”

Russia Has The Solution To Gaza Crisis! – Norman Finkelstein (14 min)
In response to this past weekend’s deadly attacks on Israel by militants from Gaza, Russia has released a statement calling for an end to violence and for the conflict to be resolved on the basis of international law. The proposed resolution would entail a return to the 1967 borders and a two-state solution.

How This Could DETONATE The Entire Middle East! w/ Mark Sleboda (32 min)
The recent Hamas attacks inside Israel and subsequent Israeli bombardment of Gaza has sent shockwaves across the Middle East. One of the immediate consequnces: an unprecedented direct conversation between Saudi Arabian leader Price Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian leader Ebrahim Raisi so that the rival nations could confer about the fate of Palestine. The question is whether these conversations and others among world leaders will be able to prevent the conflict in Gaza from spiraling into a larger war across the Middle East and beyond

Arabs Scaling Walls To Get Into Israel & Fight! (12 min)
Since last weekend’s brazen attack from Gaza into Israel proper and the subsequent Israeli response, videos have been making the rounds depicting individuals from neighboring countries pouring into Israel in order to throw their lot in with the Palestinians and join the “resistance.” The threat is that these neighboring countries will follow their citizenry into the conflict, leading to the last thing anyone with sense could want: a wider war.

Gerald argues that given today's heightened geopolitical tensions, “World War III has already begun,” not to mention that the U.S. has been experiencing economic and political turmoil domestically. “The economy is ready to crash. You saw what was going on with the equality markets. The economy is failing. They’re getting people’s minds off with war,” he claims.

Israel will pound half of Gaza into rubble, push the survivors out, or kill them outright. Then use the rubble as a barrier and reoccupy the land, build artificial mountains to put gun positions on. Israel will commemorate this as their 9/11 and world leaders will come on the anniversary to show support, and remind the world every year how awful the Palestinians are. As to the Palestinians it'll be like Armenia, or Sarajevo....we sorta vaguely remember it, but really, who will care. Maybe like us and the First Americans, in a hundred years Israel will look back and think maybe they could have done it differently. Or like slavery, never be able to deal with it honestly.

links and vids. I once learned of an exercise in computational particle physics that was to compute how long a perfectly pointed pencil could balance on its point. The current mideast fracas reminds me of that; blatantly, massively, unquestionably unstable, since inception, the only question is when. We're less than a month from the date of the Ottoman Empire's surrender in WW I, which led to it's partition, and, like a pebble starting to roll down a gravel slope, to this.

How far will things go? Not sure and not sure if I want to worry or think about it. Que sera, sera; as somebody once said. Yard work, household chores, PT-exercises, basic health and fitness exercises, mixed in alternation for over 4 hours now, and I don't really need to think at the same time, so I think I won't, at least for a while. Took far too many very deep dives into I-P history years ago, back to the beginning, and, among other things, saw sources vanish from online access, police reports from 45 and 46 and stuff like that. History has been concealed in favor of a very fictitious narrative, surprise, surprise.

I don't know, I just can't support people rape and kill women, children, and non combatants. Not only kill them but torture them to death. I scroll past the videos but even scrolling past it's obvious what's going on. Most people in the world think killing babies is wrong.

Of course things are complicated and I'm sure many find real good reasons to kill the helpless who have done nothing, like it's only right to kill babies or something. Anybody starts that shit around here and we're liable to not even wait for them to be arrested.

I swear ideology has to be the most deadly sickness. It takes some kind of double joints to twist oneself into the knots required to justify that sort of ugliness. I hope I never reach the point where I can justify rape and murder.

It’s called “atrocity propaganda” — false stories of horrific incidents committed by an official enemy that are intended to build support for committing atrocities against the dehumanized other. And that’s exactly what’s been happening with the recent Hamas attacks in Israel as media have spread unsubstantiated reports of widespread rape, beheaded babies and hundreds massacred at a music festival.

I don't support killing civilians on either side. Try watching Abby's documentary, Gaza Fights For Freedom, (posted above) if by chance you are open minded. If not, you won't be alone. RFK sadly is there with you.

@Lookout Propaganda is most easily spread via video or you tube. Videos are much easier to appeal to emotion, if there are transcripts, sometimes I'll read them, but it's much better if the person actually spent the time to put logical arguments down on paper. That's exactly why people produce you tubes. Paste together some out of context vids from ten years ago, toss in a bunch of exaggeration or outright fibs, and that's about 99% of videos.

The US is a democracy?...or is it a republic?
Republic vs. Democracy

  • Republics and democracies both provide a political system in which citizens are represented by elected officials who are sworn to protect their interests.
  • In a pure democracy, laws are made directly by the voting majority leaving the rights of the minority largely unprotected.
  • In a republic, laws are made by representatives chosen by the people and must comply with a constitution that specifically protects the rights of the minority from the will of the majority.
  • The United States, while basically a republic, is best described as a “representative democracy.”

As stated earlier I think we're experiencing a global banking corporate cartel or oligarchy....nothing close to a democracy nor republic.

I think this article is timely. Someone who claimed to have lived in Japan for fifteen years and "knows lots of Koreans," told me my characterization of the South Korean president being out of step with public sentiment in South Korea was ill informed. According to him, South Koreans also aren't particularly politically active: rather they are more interested manga, video games, and Japanese rock. I guess the thousands of South Koreans I see in the streets of Seoul every weekend calling for their president to be impeached is something he never gets to see in US or Japanese media.

Here are some poll results published in Asahi Shimbun today:

Japanese with ‘good’ impression of South Korea hits all-time high

On the other hand, 53.3 percent of respondents on the Korean side did not have a good impression of Japan, a slight increase from last year. Those who responded “good” totaled 28.9 percent, down slightly from last year.

...

Only 8.5 percent of South Koreans had a favorable impression of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, while 36.1 percent ticked “bad.”

Regarding perceptions of shared history over Japan’s 1910-45 annexation of the Korean Peninsula, 27.0 percent of the South Korean respondents said issues emanating from this historical period cannot be resolved regardless of the state of cooperation between the two countries. This marked a significant increase from 15.2 percent last year.

“Although government-led efforts have made progress in improving relations, the viewpoint of the Korean people has not improved to the same degree as that of the Japanese,” Genron chief Yasushi Kudo told an Oct. 12 news conference.

The survey also found that 68.7 percent of the South Korean respondents were “against” the release of treated radioactive water from the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant. Operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. began releasing tons of water into the Pacific Ocean on Aug. 24.
