The Mavericks - Amarillo, Texas - 9/21/23

Last Wednesday wifey and I trekked up to Amarillo to catch a Mavericks concert on Thursday the 21st of September. The show was at the beautiful Globe-News Center Performance Hall in downtown Amarillo.

This was one of the best shows I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them. It was high energy, excellent musicianship, and must I say, great vocals from frontman Raul Malo.

Anyway, I recorded some of the show for your viewing pleasure, along with some photos. You may get a feel for the excitement that reverberated through the auditorium, both from the band and the audience. We were seated center stage, 5 rows back, 20 feet from the band.

The stage pre-show.

Here's the video I took, apologies for the slight jerkiness, I couldn't help but dance and my arms felt like they were going to fall off holding the camera up for so long. They're best viewed in full screen mode.

Dance in the Moonlight & All Night Long

All You Ever Do is Bring Me Down (Encore performance)

I thought that maybe you Mavericks fans would appreciate a little taste of this outstanding show. It's Sunday evening and my head is still buzzing from the greatness of it all.

Enjoy!

These videos are great! THANK YOU!

I love the Mavericks. Have since they started, have not been able to see them live for years. So this is such a blessing. THANK YOU!

Yes, Raul's oldest son. I found out by sneaking on FB and checking out their page and looking at the older posts. So, a bit of sleuthing! Then I found this link to a podcast about Dino! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/feeding-the-senses-episode-36-dino...

I am dancing around the room to the last video, AGAIN. THANK YOU!!!! Smile Smile

@Sima
you are correct. I did a little more searching and found this:

The Mavericks, State Theatre. With singer Raul Malo now playing bass and his son Dino Malo subbing on drums (Paul Deakin had heart surgery), the refreshingly retro yet forward- thinking group was as swingin' as ever. Not only did they play an array of remarkable originals, evoking a pre-Beatles era, but Raul did three solo acoustic numbers including his slow, lonely version of Jimmy Buffett's "misinterpreted" "Margaritaville." Suddenly, there was pin-drop silence in a roomful of temporarily seated baby-boomer dancers.

Thank you for that tidbit of information.

PS - We have tickets for a New Years Eve party with The Mavericks at Gruene Hall, near Austin. It's a small venue and ought to be a blast!
