Friday Night Photos Wall Art Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

I was on call for jury duty this week but the group I was assigned to didn't get called in, so that was nice. That fulfills my obligation for the next 18 months. Also nice.
Weather wise the week started out a little hot with temps in the low 90s but by Wednesday things cooled off and it's been pleasant the rest of the week with more nice weather in the forecast for the coming week. I see Hurricane Lee is closing in on the New England area. QMS and other members in the area hunker down and stay safe.

This months camera club outing Tuesday morning was to photograph the murals and wall art in Chicano Park. The park is located in Barrio Logan underneath the east end of the Coronado Bridge where bridge pylons and buildings provide the canvas for some excellent cultural artwork.

compared to the spray painted logos I see on passing box cars, this is real art.
Thank you for getting out there and capturing the images, and sharing them
with us here. One, three and five are totally captivating. Sucks in your soul to
comprehend. Reminds me somewhat of my brother's escrapements down in
Lantana. An other-worldly expression endlessly expanding.

I love art in all of its various manifestations. And listening to the Santana makes
the experience even more wonderful.

This from colossal, another dream-like projection.

I fell in love with VK's work when I first walked into his gallery in Lahaina (sadly no longer there) on a trip to Maui in 2015. Having spent my working days with a tool in my hand I can relate to the channel locks drawing too.

I was introduced through the following documentary to an amazing artist and individual, Laurie Lipton. She and her drawings are totally fascinating.

This is one of her drawings ...

Thank you for the expressive Mexican wall art. The Santana accompaniment is perfect. Each in their own way are very 'moving' ; ).

Mexicans sure have a different relationship to death than their neighbours.

I've loved Santana's music since his first album. I saw him here in San Diego back in the late 90's. Jeff Beck opened. It was a great concert.
I don't know what the interest in death is for Mexicans, but it does make for some interesting art.
The sigline is from a meme I came across recently. I hope your daughter likes it.

@Socialprogressive Hi SP. Those were taken in L.A. area, so Pacific. In general a colored pouch in breeding season means Pacific. Atlantic Brown Pelican the pouch is brown in breeding season. There have been a couple found with colored pouches in the Atlantic, generating great debate as to whether it was expression of a 'throwback' gene, or, ws it Pacific Browns that crossed the land bridge? Which there are records of for other species like Heerman's Gull and Elegant Tern, two Pacific species which have been found in the Atlantic. Atlantic Brown Pelican are also smaller than the Pacific birds interestingly.

Hi Janis,

GREAT photos as always... spring showers bring flowers... What color would you describe the lower flowers as? Are they pink? Do you know what type. They look similar to a 'wild rose' here. Beautiful photos.

take care,

@janis b wow! beautiful! What a nice orange that is. Orange seems the rarer of colors for flowers here. Out of a hundred species of wildflowers around my yard and immediate vicinity, one is orange. Dozens of yellows and whites, lots of blues and purples, a ton of reds, one orange.

Thanks for showing it!

@dystopian

The poppies were 'picked' up at the flower shop. I've only planted two flowers in the ground. As you know so well many non-natives can become a pest in any environment. Very few flowers grow here naturally. The ones on native trees often flower, but they are mostly inconspicuous and pale, except for the Puriri, Nikau, Pohutakawa and Rewarewa. I have planted some other flowers in pots outside.

One of the two flowers I planted in the ground were Canna Lilies, simply because they don’t become a pest and they are a wonderfully coloured orange against all the green behind it. The other is a White Ginger whose flowers are sterile, and are the most beautifully fragrant flowers.

Happy nature watching!

creativity is awesome. Being an old acid queen, I've always loved surrealism. Great photos, and jb, I still shake my head at your stuff. I know they're not paintings, but..... In most literature, the skull has always been associated with death or some aspect of it. I would assume it would be the case in fine art. I own a small book on the art of Mati. A lot of the early Santana classic LP covers were works done by him. Great stuff!! Smile
Well, the storms missed the Peninsula the last couple of weeks. I'll be glad when the season ends. Take care, you all. Rec'd!!

I have mentioned this photographers work before. She introduced graffiti art to the larger public through her camera. Her documentation of early graffiti art is exceptional.
