Had a freeby weekend.
First, my son had some tickets for a dinner cruise up the Willamette River on the Portland Spirit that he suddenly couldn't attend.
So he gave us the tickets and we had a wonderful time with a great steelhead dinner and a lightning show on our return to Port on the upper deck.
From the water, Portland is stunning at night.
The next morning, daughter gave us tickets for the Portland Gran Prix.
Great race, and witnessed Palou securing the '23 Championship.
At the farm today harvesting tomatoes, bell peppers, and basil, the main ingredients of my famous Tomato-Basil soup.
I make a cauldron of it and freeze small containers of it for fall and winter and give away the rest to family.
Still have a lot of harvesting to do. Everything is ripening late this year. There's still cabbage, cantaloupe, green beans, zucchini, and peas coming.
Trying to get the last 15 grand fir saplings planted before winter sets in. This will bring me to 63 trees planted in 3 years.
Going to be busy the next 2 or 3 weeks.
So what's going on in your neck of the woods?
Thread is open.

Foggy this morning at the farm. But it looks to burn off early.
The rain has moved on and I can't help but think of those unhappy campers at the Burning Man Festival. But it probably should be noted that they went there to brave the harsh conditions to begin with.
Just not quite this harsh.
Hope everybody makes it out ok though.

The next to last race of the season.
Indy racing returned to PIR after a long hiatus. Not sure it will survive as the stands were pretty sparse and many of them were comped.
I'm noticing a lot of empty seats at NASCAR events too.
The "Bread & Circuses" are waning, especially since there is no more bread.
Glad to hear the rain has let up on ya. We caught a glancing blow.

Sounds like you've hit the jackpot all around.

Today is off to an interesting start, a pick=up with roof flashers and such pulled in to our court and erected a sign. I changed into regular clothes and looked at it - "Road Work Ahead", facing into the court, meaning that the street providing access to our little 5 house cul-de-sac will be undergoing "road work" for an unknown period of time starting at an unknown time. Today is my day to go get my monthly infusion and I don't need grief getting there and back, but I already hear equipment rolling up on that street. Arrgh.

Still trying to prune our apricot and solve why it is raining apples, because they generally don't ripen until December-January. Also have a serious need to get the office squared away, it is magically self-cluttering.

Today is national cheese pizza day and national shrink day. I think the nation needs cheese pizza more that one or more shrinks. Shrinkology is a normative racket and we don't need to further enforce and embed the national norm(s) which lean heavily to warmongering or acceptance of war making and war mongering, inconsiderateness, jealousy and greed, and first and foremost, gullibility, etc. Ah well. Time to wander out to the main street and see if I can further ascertain what fresh hell is in store for our little mimi-hood.

@enhydra lutris
up here (Washington) for a couple of weeks now. I don't know what is normal as I don't yet have any planted yet.
Recently made a modest donation to Audubon Society and in return they are sending me 10 saplings (3 - 4 ft) for free and a book of trees to purchase. It is noted that none of the apple trees can be shipped to Washington state.
I guess I'll have to buy them at a local nursery, but I'd rather give Audubon the business.
Kinda a reversal of my norm of shopping local.
Thanks for the post.

Today I visited my favorite massage therapist. She does magic. A few months ago
she fixed my shoulder. Today it was the hip. Could barely walk since the last time
I tried to fix batteries in a deep locker on a boat. Damned but she found all the
sore spots, kinked tissues and what knots. There is hope for this mortal coil yet.

Thanks for the OT and enjoy your harvest!

I have to draw the line at that. The 8D's require a team of gorillas, which I can't
readily find anymore. Not sure if I already busted the backs of the local tribes
but seems all the buff young'uns are too busy in the gym and getting tats.

These days, I find that the amount of ink and the actual capabilities in terms of physical activity are inversely proportional. Used to be the other way around: only old squids had that much ink, and they didn't have to even lift the things. They'd just cuss it to where it needed to go. Not so anymore...

Whatever "naval architect" decided that the battery locker no longer needed vertical daylight clear up to the main boom for a skyhook should be keelhauled.

Several of us landlocked here in CO had a wake for Mr. Buffet over the holiday. At long last, he joins the jolly man...

Heard from a friend that she was hiking/visiting the river and found a very nice shelter. She began to realize it was somebody's make-shift home and left. It appears that the river bank is finding more and more homeless setting up a place for long term living.

@MrWebster
we only saw a couple of encampments, but it is a holiday weekend, so it could have been just regular campers.
After dark, on the way back, we saw two small campfires tucked back up into the brush and trees. And above that multi- million dollar palatial palaces built so close together that should one torch off, the rest would go like Maui.
It's been years since I've been up river. I can hardly believe how much it's filled in with top money mansions.

https://apnews.com/article/saudi-arabia-oil-production-cut-opec-2d6f724e...

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia and Russia agreed Tuesday to extend their voluntary oil production cuts through the end of this year, trimming 1.3 million barrels of crude out of the global market and boosting energy prices.

The dual announcements from Riyadh and Moscow pushed benchmark Brent crude above $90 a barrel in trading Tuesday afternoon, a price unseen in the market since November.

The countries’ moves could increase inflation and the cost for motorists at gasoline pumps. It also puts new pressure on Saudi Arabia’s relationship with the United States, as President Joe Biden last year warned the kingdom there would be unspecified “consequences” for partnering with Russia on cuts as Moscow wages war on Ukraine.

Bloomberg) -- A British-made Challenger 2 main battle tank was destroyed by enemy fire for the first time as Kyiv presses its counteroffensive against Russian troops in the occupied southeast.

A video of a destroyed tank near Robotyne, a village in the Zaporizhzhia region liberated by Ukrainian forces last month, was posted on social media Monday. A UK defense official who wished not to be named confirmed the tank — a model that Britain has used for almost three decades — was destroyed. It wasn’t clear whether the crew survived.

Ukraine received 14 Challenger 2s this year from the UK, which was the first of Kyiv’s allies to pledge top-flight, modern NATO-standard tanks for the fight against the invasion. Having broken the taboo, which some western governments feared would provoke escalation with Moscow, the British commitment was followed by a German pledge for Leopard 2 tanks, and a US vow to supply Abrams M1s.

Edited to add this.

@QMS @QMS The owner had walked up to our room where we were getting settled after checking in, and it had wifi and tv remote issues that he and the maintenance guy were repairing. I was actually discussing a legal issue with the guy in the room next door. ( He had experienced food poisoning at a local restaurant, and I was telling him some resources to check out to find a lawyer. ) The owner's eyes got big, "You are a lawyer?" Not sure if it worried him, or he was trying to establish good will. The next stay, I told the front desk during check out that the coffeemaker needed to be replaced. I got the message the room was comped by the time I got home. This 3rd time, no complaints, the room was very nice, the whole property upgraded, so why I got the freeby this time is known only to the owner.
As for space warriors, I actually know a guy in the Army assigned to their "space program", although he could give me details because he would have to kill me.
So, yes...a discount is in order!
