Really late Open Thread Blog
Sorry guys, forgot what day it is.
Started this on Saturday and just got real busy.
Mullin' over what to do with my dollars. Brother Ron, staunch conservative that he is, finds he has the same problem.
We go 'round an 'round on what to invest in, whether PM, stocks, cash, foreign currency, real estate, or non perishable goods.
The list goes on an on even though we both can dabble a little bit in all of them.
Of course, we're not talking a great sum of money. Neither one of us are buying thousands of acres of farmland (Bill Gates) or golf courses (Trump) or foreign land on top of hugh aquifers (the Bushes).
But I did buy 3 acres of pasture/farmland.
We both remember runs on the banks multiple times since the thirties. And runs on the gas pumps C. 1970s, even runs on toilet paper recently (maybe not a good choice of words though).
We are both afraid to leave it in a bank or CU, not earning any interest.
And we've always been told to have six months salary in savings.
Is that even still a thing?
So maybe some of you here have some suggestions?
Thread is open.

Another day another arms package for Ukraine!

The simple explanation:
Start more wars. Profit!
That's it in a nutshell. Once again, our last remaining export is "wholesale death". And here we are, giving it away...
I guess they figure they can make it up in volume, or something.
Twice bitten, permanently shy.
Did you see this?
That sums up everything that is wrong with America. Our military blows away anyone it want. Our cops kill over a thousand people every year and yet the leaders are surprised that Americans kill each other in droves and instead of looking into mirrors they blame the guns. But never the societal conditions that keep getting worse every year. Plus all the political BS we are exposed to. I don’t think that figuring out increasing violence in America is rocket science.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Yup.
It isn’t.
I’ve always said that if it gets to the point that I need a gun to survive, I’ll only need one round for it.
But I’m too cheap for that. At this point, if I don’t get vaporized first, I’ll just wait for the first good crossfire to come- once everyone starts shooting at one another for Reasons. Then I’ll walk into the big-ass middle of it, and let them Freedumb me. Ain’t it great? I’ll save at least a hundred bucks. Win-win!

Accounting error in my favor
Where's my $100.
Do I have to get a swastika tat?
Do I have to spend it on wine, women, and song and blow the rest on frivolous things?

I can't resist fixing that narrative:

I am sure that China is concerned by this threat. LOL

When in doubt you can always trust the BBC for information. HAH!
I, sadly, have no suggestons. Part of me say's "coffins"
but I'm sure that is unduly sardonic. You cannot corner the market in anything, so yu are at the risk of the market in everything. Me too.

LOL
Coffins are becoming too expensive for the commoner.
The plain Jane green burial plywood econo models are still three figures.
Just helped grt-granma get her "kit" together; cremation, urn, small chapel, transport, DC paperwork, come to $700.

I thought you said that you had 3 acres. n/t

Yup, 3.2 acres
Turning pasture into arable farm is freakin' hard work.
Good thing we have the time and energy (knock on wood) to get it going.
The heirs are starting to see the value and pitch in and learn.
We are up to 9000 square foot under cultivation.
Target: 15k. 120' x 120'. Plus Fruit and nut
trees.
Edit: your remark went over my head. You meant for Grt-granny. LOL, good point.

Like you and your brother, I too am wondering what to do with what few extra dollars I have. I'm looking into putting it into tangible assets like gold or other precious metals that tend to hold their value over time.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
Gold and silver
seem stable enough.
I just won't put all my eggs in one basket.
I remember FDR prohibited private holdings of gold wayback when.
Diversify is all we can do.
Throw in some ammo, even if you don't own a gun. Future currency.
Thanks for the post.

ammo is an excellent suggestion.

I have bought some land.
I am considering acquiring another property.
A bit of gold, a bit of silver. I do really mean, "a bit".
I am going to cash out a small IRA. I want to put the money to use in purchasing some commodity.
I am not interested in the stock market, leave that to you gamblers.
I am not sure what will hold value if a crash comes, but it is at least physical security to have land, especially land that will grow food, or support a bit of livestock.

Certain commodities
will always be in demand. Obviously, TP will fetch a good return.
Booze and cigarettes prey on the addicted, but in a dog eat dog situation it could feed you barter-wise.
Ammo will be a currency, not firearms.
IMHO.
Thanks for stopping by.

I had a hard time finding them
but waterproof "striker" matches. The ones you can strike on your levis or a rock.
I stocked up on them.
I'm also stockpiling seasoned Firewood.
It's nice to have a little acreage to do these things.
Everything can be bartered.

Those matches are used to cook meth.
Cooks scrape off the tips into the cook pot. You can be questioned at the store, even required to put your name on a list. Same for Sudafed.
Buy few at a time, buy at different stores.
Crazy times.

The Great Philosophical texts of China all have a subtle focus in common. They describe the characteristics of an Enlightened Leader and discuss the qualities to look for, should one come along in one's lifetime: An Enlightened Leader leads the way rather than ruling. He sees far into the future and shares that vision with the People. In time, the People take the lead to achieve great accomplishments, themselves. The People find fulfillment and shared satisfaction in what they complete, and are empowered to continue good works that benefit everyone. The greatest Leaders are invisible and the People believe they did it all themselves.
These philosophical works reach back to the very beginnings of Chinese civilization. They remind readers that an Enlightened Leader is a very rare thing, and one may not appear for many lifetimes. So they teach the people how to recognize such a Leader when one does come along. An Enlightened Leader considers the needs of all people, near and far, and concerns himself with harmonious co-existance and shared achievements.
Are we living through a period where an Enlightened Leader has emerged? Xi Jinping is now 70 years old, and writes a record of his experiences every day, When Xi was 11 years old, his family lost everything during the Cultural Revolution, and moved to a rural hamlet. Xi had to work hard and compete with other Chinese students through the National Exams to win a spot in college. He ultimately received a doctorate in government affairs from a prestigious university in Beijing.
After working for government in many different parts of China, Xi Jinping eventually returned to Beijing and Shanghai to work on national policy and international affairs. He was eventually elected President in 2012 by China's parliament. Politicians in China's communist party are servants of the Chinese People. They are not billionaires. Croneyism, nepotism, and bribery in government are heavily punished in modern China. Xi Jinping earns a relatively modest salary and is listed as one of the five lowest paid presidents in the world.

There are several, insane, wild eyed, neocon biographies out there right now that demonizes Xi Jinping as a corrupt dictator — which is laughable to anyone who knows how China's vast democratic government operates. These screeds all borrow fictitious details and lies from each other to establish a 'verified' narrative. Xi's life and that of his wife, who was the more well-known of the two for many years, is quite transparent. You can easily rise above the propaganda if you wish. Their daughter, who just graduated from Harvard, does keep a lower profile. Coincidently, Xi has just published his very first biography this month, which is also a matter of public record and the consensus of the thousands who have been part of his life. The biography is being released in dozens of languages simultaneously
Don't get bamboozled like the rest of the West. We need truth-tellers, too. Truth is the only thing that will save this planet, and it is almost unknown in the West.
The American people
know the difference between good and evil.
They don't know how to tell the difference in a sea of propaganda.

A late suggestion...
Have you thought about using, maybe you already use, an investment service/company? I don't have a lot of money, but what I do have I invest with Ameriprise. Now, my advisor is really good, and really likes the little guy, so the lower limit on investment amount is like, 10k. Other places have much higher 'lower' limits, like 100k.
Anyway, my investments with ameriprise make enough interest that I haven't had to liquidate any of them, at least, yet.
Just a thought
