Dry Times

open thread_70.jpg

Heading into a period of dry weather with no rain and the local news stations are starting their days without count. Last year was 57 days. So far this year, we are at 62.
And it doesn't look promising. Somehow fitting that OPB ran their Dust Bowl doc last week. Just a reminder of how things could get.
My family left the hills of West Virginia a decade after the Dust Bowl ended. We followed the lower plains state farmers to California in search of jobs and opportunity. I estimate around 40 of us made the long trip across Route 66 which began a decade long commute every year back and forth on vacations until we eventually made the break more permanent. It's been decades since I've been "back home".
Home for most of what's left of our family is now the PNW. We always were a migrant family. From Ireland to Louisiana, Kentucky, W. Va, California, Oregon, and then Washington State.
What a long strange trip it's been.
The weather patterns are definitely changing. I'm seeing video in the news of catastrophic 1000 year flash flooding in the N/E and record heat in the Southland.
I'm confident I'm heading in the right direction, away from the equator, because those equatorial peoples are showing up at our southern border in bigger numbers every year.
Of course, I could be heading into the million year old microbe releases as the permafrost melts. Just what I need, running towards a Pterodactyl Flu bug.
The thread is open.

But I don't really know. The days spent in Seattle and south to No. California
along the coast always seemed a bit on the damper side. Inland was a different
climate. Today we have an imitation of tropical, but the dense fogs are keeping
the broiling sun at bay. It's only 80, so working outside is doable. Somewhat,
for an old man like me. Still gotta work to pay the bills after 68 years of toil.
Selling-off equipment to reduce the credit card balances. Oh vell.

Thanks for the OT!

is clear and dry, but cooler Temps prevail.
Earthling 2 so wants to go to the beach but mid 60s is not warm enough for her.
I'm keeping a kean eye on the forecasts and the first 70°day we are outta here.
I've been splitting my chores outside from morning (7 - 11am) to late afternoon (5 - 10pm).
Love the long summer days up here at 45° latitude.
Just paid off my Kubota tractor and now have absolutely no creditors. Even house and farm are paid for.
It's a nice feeling.
Have a great day, QMS

the debacle over the Ford electric Lightning truck I put money on only to find they raised the price $11 grand when it got here.
I backed out of the deal telling them where to stuff it.
I see on the news Ford is now lowering the price on said truck.
Apparently I'm not alone in my rejection of their pricing scheme to hijack the Fed tax credit money.
I will call the salesman later and find out the details.
It had better be a substantial reduction.
Will keep you all posted.

Boy does the website look Different with the upgrade(?)
256 gigs of memory should last me awhile since the old phone only had 16 gigs

stretching out the lifetime of your phone..
I've always been on Android but can only ever get four or five years until the battery goes or the upgrades slow it down significantly.

I just hope he doesn't bail on us like the Saker.
To be fair though, the Saker was in a bind posting from inside the beast. Can't blame him a bit for closing hisVinyard.
Thanks for the post.

They are projecting an extra strong and long el niño. For CA that means that an extremely wet winter is very likely. Possibly you guys too.

Dealing with new, major physical problem here so I'll be mostly trying to sort that out. Got up out of my chair about 8:30 last night and my left leg was not functioning at all properly, so I'm spending a ton of time trying to work through that.

be well and have a good one

My brother woke up last week with a limp arm. He thought it was a stroke. Emergency room Dr. said it was not a stroke but couldn't diagnose it. Gave him some Pregnisone and pain pills and regained function 2 days later.
He now has to make the 75 mile trip to the closest VA hospital for further evaluation.
I am starting to get numbness in my hands that the Dr. thinks is late onset carpet tunnel syndrome.
I start PT in two weeks.
El Nino/LA Nina no longer manifests themselves the same anymore.
It's a crapshoot what it brings this time around.
Get better soon.

It seems I remember that you grew cuccuzza in your garden for at least one year. It has been a fairly dependable crop here in my part of Texas. Below is a photo of cuccuzza in a tree about 20 ft up. The tree is dead, so I plan to pull it over to get to them.

We were lucky to have a wet and mild spring. Now it is hot -113 at the moment - and the grasshoppers have arrived. That's just the way it is. I'm thankful to have had a pretty good harvest of many veggies.

Wishing everyone a great day! I-m so happy

We are planning on a Gary P. Nunn Albert Hall concert in a couple of weeks, and hope the hall has coolers set up!
Thanks for the OT.
Hang in there, friend!
