Cornel West goes figuring while the "Left" endorses Biden

So Katie Halper asks Cornel West what he would say to people who think he's a "spoiler." West starts with a complaint about "mediocre and milquetoast candidates."

Let me, here, suggest a superior way of reasoning on this question, one which Cornel West would benefit from using: Joe Biden is not a lesser evil. If Cornel West were a spoiler, Joe Biden would have to be a lesser evil, rather than another evil, one which we toy with at our own great peril. Joe Biden is an old man whose brain is going south, whose primary deed while in office appears to have been to appoint a bunch of warmongers whose current dynamic in office will, if successful, launch World War III. Simplicius the Thinker:

The situation can only be considered urgent as Ukraine has now made their full intentions crystal clear. If before we suspected with high confidence, now it is plain fact. They intend to destroy the ZNPP plant as a last ditch attempt to ‘activate NATO’ by blaming Russia.

A completely coordinated campaign over the last few days has affirmed this. Not only was Budanov’s maiden speech after reappearing from his Kalibrated cranial trepanation centered on Russia’s alleged ‘mining of the ZNPP’ basement, but now several new instances of highly coordinated messaging have been released by Ukraine and its Western controllers.

(In this regard it might be reasonable to hope that the Ukrainians are not successful in this objective. Ya think?)

As I asked a pro-Biden crowd assembling on someone else's Facebook profile: "If Joe Biden's vendetta against Russia turns into World War III, would it be okay because, since a Democrat did it, it would be a 'left-wing' World War III?"

Somehow I'm imagining a bunch of Biden supporters sitting around after World War III, doped up on Fentanyl, and waiting to die of bone marrow cancer while vomiting their guts out: "oh but it's totally kewl because a Democrat made it possible. It would be SO MUCH WORSE if a Republican had instigated this!"

Meanwhile, the mainstream media is telling us as furiously as it can that Putin is in deep trouble (here, this link is from Anne Applebaum's favorite magazine). Simplicius, of course, has a more accurate story:

In fact, something very interesting is happening inside Russia. There is an energy, a vitality and solidarity that’s rising like never before. People are animated with a renewed sense of purpose, patriotism, and love for their country...It may seem confusing to the outside observer at first, because Russia has always been the infamous mystery wrapped in an enigma. But listen to the people’s voices, they are cheering for Wagner while simultaneously praising Putin and Russia with a newfound optimism for destiny, rather than the fatalism of the 90s.

Good job, Joe. Good job, Bernie. Good job, Emily's List, NARAL, Planned Parenthood. You've enabled, and are enabling right now, a group of appointees who have critically reduced America's status in the world while destroying Ukraine and empowering Russia. As regards that Ukraine point, Simplicius again:

It’s difficult to know the answer, but one thing that’s certain is that things are getting critical for the AFU in terms of overstretching fronts. They’ve suffered grave losses in the southern direction, and now they’re being unexpectedly stretched in the north Kharkov region, for which they’re reportedly sending large amounts of patchwork reinforcements.

Meanwhile, Medea Benjamin is being attacked -- physically -- for calling for peace in Ukraine:

And let's get out of the way -- RIGHT NOW -- the standard dodge against this line of reasoning. Sure, there's an important moral issue of whether or not it's right or wrong for Russia to occupy portions of Ukraine that are populated significantly by ethnic Russians. I can see both sides of it. Debate it all you want. But -- and here's what I would ask the Biden supporters -- try, as best you can, to see what kind of distinctions you can make in your heads between moral issues and reasons for catastrophically stupid warfare. Okay? Okay.

So let's be clear. There's some real mass stupidity going about right now in the United States. Its epicenter is Joe Biden, and the cluster of foreign policy appointees he's got. And let's not forget Lindsey Graham **shudder**. The place it's likely to blow up -- first -- is a nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine. The smart move would be to do what Medea Benjamin is advocating at this time. But Joe won't do that. This is why Joe Biden is not the lesser evil. Rather, Joe is merely another evil.

But hey, let's call for his re-election instead. We can pretend, like we did in 2020, that "the Left" (NOT a real Left, as long as it endorses Biden) will -- all by itself -- get Joe in the White House, this time around for another four years. Meanwhile, of course, it can be expected that when November 2024 rolls around America will be desperate to end the damned war, with (more likely) a Republican or (much less likely) with Cornel West, to stop the incredible waste of resources of all types and of human beings.

-- he can hope that nobody gets Donald Fagen's ironic subtext about nuclear war.

The ruling classes need an extra party to make the rest of us feel as if we participate in democracy. That's what the Democrats are for. They make the US more durable than the Soviet Union was.
