Friday Night Photos Small World vol 5 Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 06/02/2023 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
Well it's been another week of cool temps and gray skies and a little light rain on Wednesday. I can deal with the cool temps but I really miss the sun. I'm beginning to think I'm in the pacific northwest and not San Diego.
On Tuesday I had a CT scan done on my heart. The Dr. was concerned about plaque buildup in the arteries because of high cholesterol. The results said there was minimal buildup and I'm at low risk for heart disease. So that was good. Other than that it's been an uneventful week.
These are a few of the residents at the cactus garden and rose garden at Balboa Park.

Thanks. Once again you provide us with excellent images.
How many different cameras do you take on your photo gathering excursions?
Also I would imagine that a tripod is a necessity?
Hi, humphrey
Most of the time I only take one camera body and two or three lenses and change lenses as needed. If I'm going to be somewhere where it's dirty or dusty I'll take two camera bodies so I don't have to change lenses while out in the field. I do have a tripod but I don't use it for bug photography. The bugs don't stay in one place long enough to set up the tripod.

Your Hover fly is spectacular
with the yellow background and iridescent wings
wow! and the bronze carapace, sheer beauty
thanks for showing your stuff
question everything
Hi, QMS.
The yellow background is a Prickly Pear Cactus blossom. It looks a little like lemon meringue.

I love the solo bee shot that’s coated with pollen
Very nice! They’re all great, but that’s my favorite.
Hi, snoopy
I got very lucky that morning. Usually the bees just fly right in, collect their pollen and fly out. That morning they hovered place near the flowers long enough for me to get some shots of them in flight.

Hi Social
The hover fly on the pillowy yellow is not only stunningly beautiful, but can be an inspiration to one of those chefs that create Michelin star plates of food. Probably a dessert since the fly's eyelids look chocolate-dipped.
I hope you get more sunshine soon. Heading south for a reprieve might sound appealing by now.
Thank you for posting your work and hosting, plus Santana. It’s always a treat.
Another sand drawing
I thought you all might enjoy looking at these Milky Way photos from around the world ...

Enjoy the weekend and be well
Wonderful art
I’ve never seen a beach with beach art like you have. Your photo last week was even better and I think I should come for a visit. Hopefully you don’t mind if I bring the Sam dawg?
Oh snoopy,
there's plenty of room for you both, and what a treat it would be to explore together. There's even a designated dog beach next door that Sam would absolutely love. You and Sam would quickly get used to the different accent ; )
I asked Sam if she wanted to fly to NZ
She said that she gets air sick… silly dawg has never flown. Then she said she would love to if she can ride up top with me cuz she doesn’t want to be stuck in cargo. Where she learned about that is a mystery, but she is adamant! But it sure would be fun to meet you there.
Here she is being serious as she contemplates the way the world is.
Maybe we should put dawgs in charge of the world and see how that goes. I’m betting it would be more peaceful as they encourage people to take more walks and naps and just live in the moment.
Your photo of Sam
makes me think how wonderful it feels to be perfectly content exactly where you are. I'm glad you can interpret her thoughts, they must be very entertaining and informative. I'd bet dogs wouldn't want anything to do with being a politician ; ).
I told her what you said and she agrees with you
After contemplating it for awhile she decided… "You guys fck’d it up so you can fix it."
Actually she’s looking all pathetic like that because she wants a milkbone.
Thank you for the photos of Sam
She is so beautiful and gentle looking.
I think the one from last week
is also my favourite from the many sand drawing over the years.
I've posted this video several times here over the years, and would like to include it again ...
Peter is a very talented sand artist
We get a different type sand artist here.
This is from last year. Unfortunately this years contest has been postponed.

Thanks for the link to the sand castle sculpture
When you start to look around there's some amazing sand sculptures and drawings.
The Milky Way video was incredible
I’d like to do more star photography this year if I can ever get in the mountains before it starts snowing again. We still have so much snow in the high country it’s going to be months before they’re open. At least our dams are filling up and the lake is now up almost 6 feet. 5 more feet to fill it so we aren’t getting dust storms when the wind blows from the west. We had a bad one a few weeks ago but it missed Ogden.

Way cool!
The trio from 3DSD are very imaginative and talented. Thanks for the link, Janis.

Hi, Janis
Eating food that looks like bugs, no problem. Eating bugs, big problem.
I can't go to much farther south or I'll be in Mexico. Late this afternoon the sun put in an appearance which was nice, but the forecast for the next week looks like more of what we've had for the last few weeks.
Thanks for the beach art and the link. Those are some spectacular astro-photos.
Enjoy your weekend as well.

Great photos,
Just beautiful, really.
San Diego! Lucky! I love San Diego, not that I am thoroughly familiar. Been there a few times and would move there if I had the wherewithal. Awhile back, I stayed at Catamaran Resort on Mission Blvd. Took the boat tour of the harbor and enjoyed it so much, I went back the next day and did it again. I am currently in a landlocked, snowy state.
Hi, OLinda
Glad you enjoyed your visits here. If you can afford it San Diego is a nice place to live. Not as crowded or as busy as Los Angeles or San Francisco. But just like everywhere else, the number homeless people has been increasing the last few years.

Hi pixelators
Hi all, Hey SP! Hope all are well!
Great 'bug' pics SP! Always outstanding.
Love yer 'imprints in sand' series Janis!
I'll call this one 'art'.
you want some more?
ok, here ya go
modern op-art
and the full monty is ...
Tawny Emperor - Asterocampa clyton
When the missing parts on each wing match, as here, you know the near-miss was when wings closed.
Sorry I can't hang, I gotta fly. Severe thunderstorm inbound and we have to unplug everything as the electrical system here in Texastan is vewy vewy fwagile.
Have good ones all!
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

Hi, dystopian
The Emperors clothes may not be new but they sure are nice looking.
Stay safe from the storm.

Hi dystopian
I love your matchstick and op art, art.
The op art reminds me of my mom, who for years chose op art patterns to needlepoint. I'm surprised she never went cross-eyed, but coming to think of it op art requires some distance in viewing to send ones eyes into a spin.
Sometimes I see leaves with an interesting pattern of holes once they unfold after having been chewed while still closed.
I hope the weather wasn't too severe and all is well.
Coming here always puts a smile on my face.
The photos are terrific as usual. I wish I had the eye for drawing, painting and/or photography. I don't, but I sure can recognize it in others. Speaking of celestial images, check out this link to the James Webb Space Telescope: https://www.flickr.com/photos/nasawebbtelescope/52945749968/in/album-721.... Some of those images will blow your mind (no pun intended). Hope everyone is swell. It is now officially hurricane season in my neck of the woods. Big whoop. Anywho, Rec'd, y'all!

Hi, orlbucfan
Those are some incredible images from the JWST. Thanks for the link.
Yesterday I saw where the first tropical storm of the season (Arlene) is forming in the gulf and is headed south towards Cuba. Lets hope the Atlantic and Gulf coasts don't get battered to hard this season.
