1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen

The Audrain Automobile Museum in Newport, RI has an amazing collection of old vehicles.
They are now featuring mostly cars (and a couple bikes) ranging from 1889 thru 1939.
This is the eldest in the collection made by Carl Benz in Germany.

Regarded as the world’s first functional automobile, it sported tiller steering and a
gasoline fueled two stroke engine.

The power plant ..

Engine: 58 C.I. One-Cylinder
Horsepower: 2/3 HP @ 250 RPM
Top Speed: 10 MPH

If crossing the Atlantic westerly, at sunrise it would indicate weather ahead.
And visa-versa a red sunset means weather behind. A easterly crossing would
be the opposite I suppose.

Your shots of the Benz brought back memories of a trip my dad and I made to the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, Ca. back in 2012.
The motorcycle looks like it would be a hoot to scoot around town on.

similar to the old cars and tractors that had a crank lever
sticking out the front to turn them over

it is cooled by a water reservoir, so whenever you re-fuel
you have to water it too. not unlike the old locomotives with
steam boilers. shovel in more coal and fill the water tank

OK, so we should be happy that less than 10% of inner-city busses
no longer burn diesel. Wow! That's progress. In a way.

What about China with thousands miles of electrified high speed
commuter rail? Is this why they are a national security risk to US?

Truth is, we are being left in the dust when it comes to infrastructure
development. Sagging bridges, traffic jams, loss of sustainable
agriculture, increasing poverty, homelessness, lack of health care.

But you can charge your phone on some random bus. Whoowee!
