I cut the cable cord this morning.

It feels good.

Ok, I still have inter-tube access, and Apple TV, which is great with movies and films. And they have a surprising number of TV shows that I enjoy, and even good news. (CNN, Reuters, NBC ((with MSNBC one-two hours after bored cast) and others)

And because Honey loves local sports, we are pitching in for a digital antenna. Chicago's signals are so strong, that we will get everything else we need. And she gets to see some of the games.

What got me was just how much Att Uverse charged for just watching the T and V. They also switched up the intertubes saying that my equipment was to ancient, I might have problems with their next auto update.

On the phone, the ATT center had me wait for a while, then one person, then a second, then a third, and finally they agreed to shut it off. Today. And sure enough 8 hrs later, it was gone. The cable dude who showed up admitted that he is getting a lot of similar calls, although 40% of them seem to move to DirectTV WHICH IS ALSO OWNED AND OPERATED BY ATT, but a lot cheaper.

NOw for a game of backgammon, a pleasant drink with my honey, and the feeling of Ahhhhhhhhhh.

It reminded me a bit of leaving TOP. Except I had fewer pangs and habits to break.

If you have a lot of channels within sixty miles, there's a great home built antenna that beats the crap out of any digital antennas on the market if you have a spot outside.
Let me know.

And a big congrats on cutting the umbilical. Four years recovering satellite habit.

And bought a fully loaded Amazon Fire tv box.
It's loaded with a program that allows me to watch almost every tv show and movie ever made.
No additional fees, no additional anything.
Amazon and Netflix have waiting periods until a show's season is released. Or a waiting time for the recent episode.
I can watch any show's episode the same night.
Netflix is removing a lot of movies and shows. My box will always have them, plus it has live tv channels.
Any one interested, message me for more info.

now. Computer has everything I need.

My big entertainment budget is Netflix.

I think a cable bill is a lot to pay to watch endless advertisements with a little bit of programing added in.

Congrats PA, in a few days you won't miss it at all.

I'm amazed how fast I got over DK.

Just realized, it's a month today since I wrote a diary there or made a comment. I still go there once each day to rec the Bernie diaries. Was worried about doing that, thot I might get sucked back in. But not even feeling tempted, thank goodness. I quickly rec up all the brave posters of Bernie Diaries and then I'm otta there for another day.

No TV, no cable for eons. Haven't seen a program of the one-eyed brain drain since the boxes were made out of wood.

After offering guests a fine single malt.

Years ago, in my yute, in college, the guy across the hall prided himself on his backgammon skills. Then he and I started playing, I kept winning (and got to buy myself dinners because of it.) in those days, having a junker car made you popular, he had a brand new sports car every year.

That's when we broke free of cable. Now we have a regular roof antenna for local stuff (our Radio Shack guy advised us on setting it up). In case of live events or tornadoes, or Bernie's inauguration ceremony, we are all set. Mostly we stream Netflix via a Roku. Read ebooks, play with the cats, read internet news.

My son is autistic and LOVES movies and hockey. Hockey hockey hockey. I was paying over $120 a month for comcrap cable and then $150 a year for the privvy of being able to watch NHL's Centre Ice. So we really didn't need cable. We had our movies and just wanted to catch a game... as well as the Daily Show.

Now I pay less than $15 a month for Hulu+ and Netflix. Then I have an account for NHL.com.

The thing is... we never really watched a lot of TV. But since we switched... we can now binge watch entire series. I had the flu with my daughter and we binged The Office. Biggrin
