Friday Night Photos Fall Colors Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 10/14/2022 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. Post any photos memes or music you like.
Last weekend I was in Utah visiting family (thank you, Janis for hosting while I was away). The trees were in their fall colors, something we don't get here in San Diego. While there I meet up with Snoopy and Sam. We had a nice conversation over lunch at Shooting Star Saloon. Afterwards we took Sam To Pineview Reservoir to play in the water. All in all a fun day and a fun trip.

I love the photos!
I love the pictures of my client, Sam!
Send me a PM if you think Snoopy needs to enhance my client's enjoyment in life, and I will take appropriate measures. Glad you all had fun, and that you were treated to beauty, and could capture it with a camera.

Hi, OTC
I can truthfully say in a court of law that your clients enjoyment in life was not suffering in any way. She was one happy puppy.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
These are wonderful!
I can’t tell where you took the pictures. Were they from above Peterson or further south by SLC?
Thanks for capturing the essence of Sam in the water. As y’all can see she absolutely loves being in it. So glad that we got to meet you!

Hi, snoopy
I'm glad I got to meet you and Sam as well. She's a beautiful dog.
I shot the fall colors along hwy 65 a couple of miles south of East Canyon reservoir.

It’s the mountains in the background that threw me since I didn’t recognize them. Glad you got to see more color than what was in Ogden valley. If you are ever in the area again I’ve heard that one of the best shows for the colors is the alpine loop out of Provo I think about 40 miles south of SLC.

Hi Social
I’m glad you had a nice visit with family and friends in such a beautiful environment. Thanks for sharing it with us. Sam is so animated and the colours so inviting.
I had the pleasure this morning of watching the birth of a Nikau flower cluster. The pocket holding it has already fallen. Spring is progressing with ’the speed of science’ ; )
Be well all and enjoy the weekend.
Hi, Janis
Thanks again for hosting last week.
Your Nikau flower looks like Medusa' snake hair sticking out from underneath the covers while she sleeps.

You're very welcome Social
Any minute now her hair will be full of bees.
neat pic Janis
After hearing me go off, then seeing Dr. John Campbell on it, my wife did a search for this 'speed of science' shat. She says it is a buzz phrase being used all over the place now.
If you want to show to any scientist amateur or pro to instantly know you haven't a foggy clue WTF science is, use that phrase authoritatively as if it has scientific meaning. I can assure all, this idiotic phrase did not come from the science department, but from the sales and marketing department. Which is the department that Pfizer lady liar at the EU was from. Ya gotta be careful what buttons you push Janis... Hopefully your Tui are singing or will be soon!
Be well! Love yer palm!

Hi dystopian
I wish you could be here at this time to watch and listen to the Tuis. They are rejoicing in Spring. They’re more closely present and vocal then at any other time. They are seriously entertaining and funny.
Maybe, if the phrase is passed around enough people will realise they have been buzzed, as in unconsciously intoxicated.
Good evening Janis. Great picture and a really wild
looking flower.

Hi Bollox
Nice photo as always. I like how the tree and the clouds form an arch.
It's always a pleasure to see you and your photography. I trust all is well with you and that you are enjoying a pleasant Autumn before winter falls.
great pic BR!

OK, I'm in California, so anything and everything is a fall
color if you see it during the fall. I took these in (late?) Sept, after having tons of trouble with my camera having a mind of its own. FWIW, if you like pellies, this section of the central coast (Pismo Beach area) seems to attract unusually great numbers of them year round.

Hi el
Those are amazing Pelican photos. If you don't already love them you would after seeing these. I love how they've congregated at the top of the palm, and how communal they are. Thank you.
great pics EL!

Fall in California
My first year there I wrote my brother telling him how silly it is because the trees turn color late, stay on the trees for months and then fall off all at once and just in time for the rainy season and they clog up the drains on the streets. I enjoyed the warm days lasting long in the year for the first year and then my body wanted the cooler temperatures it grew up with.
Lovely photos of the pelicans. My favorite bird after the snowy egret.

Hi, EL
Nice shots of the Pelicans and Gull. In a few months the Pelicans will be in their breeding colors. Very colorful. I cant wait.

Hi pixelators
Hairstreaks to me, are the family Lycaenidae, the gossamer-wings. Which includes Hairstreaks, and Blues. Usually small under an inch, often about .75" long. Most hairstreaks have tails, until they wear or break off. There are around 60+ species of hairstreaks across America.
Dusky-blue Groundstreak often perches on ground, Poison-Oak/Ivy is a larval foodplant.
Another Dusky-blue Groundstreak. The dorsal surface of the wings is neon metallic blue, nothing dusky about it, and it only perches with wings closed. You can only see the stunning color in flight.
Olive-Juniper Hairstreak - taxonomy on this group is a mess, there are a bunch of similar types.
The green wears away over time.
Oak (aka Southern) Hairstreak
Great Purple Hairstreak is a big one, 1.5", and again metallic neon blue above, which you only can ever see when they are in flight. They always and only perch with wings closed, as if to torture us.

Clytie Ministreak is a scarce south Texas specialty type.
Hope all are well!

Thank you dystopian
for the visual treat of Hairstreaks butterflies. I really like the olive-juniper one, and the flowers they are feeding from look equally interesting. Some of the photos, especially the last one look as if they were underwater. It's funny how a butterfly can also resemble a fish.
Hi, dystopian.
Thanks for all the Hairstreaks. Every once in a while I'll see a Gray Hairstreak on the Rosemary plants in my backyard. Of course never when I had my camera with me.

Wow, great pics, guys and gals!
Absolutely love the fall colors!! I sure don't see them here in the "great" sandbar state. Getting my weekly visual fix. Thank you!

We have a beautiful 'indian Summer' colored garden
here as well. which makes me wonder, where the expression Indian Summer comes from.
Grab and hold on to the Indian Summer, because the Indian Winder will be ... tough.
Be well, as well as you can be..
I wanted to post Diana Ross singing 'I will survive', but that video is not available in my area. What else is not available these days in my area? I guess Sanity is missing.

Indian summer is technically referred to as
a temperature above x degrees after a low temp of y degrees in the fall for a specified
number of days. Don't see any relation to Indians. But they name weather things all sorts
of ways now. Like they are characters in some play.
Diana Ross with I will survive ..
I like this one better ..
cheers!
thank you friend,
the second video I can see and listen to and I like it a lot as well..
So, for sure, I will survive now, I just will have to sing the song.
Now I have an earworm in my head, which is much better than the unending stream of Russia/Ukraine BS
streaming and drowning any other less crazy subject.
Well, I don't have to listen to any of it.

Hi mimi
You’re not alone in being cut out of the Diana Ross video that QMS posted, but there are others available on you tube which you can possibly access.
Try this …

I think you’ve chosen a great theme song for yourself in Diana Ross' song, and I can understand how you would relate to the Pete Seeger song you chose, both in meaning and musical quality. I think it is reminiscent of German Volksmusic.
