I recommend a walk in nature to reclaim a bit of sanity. We're beginning to get a bit of color in the trees, and the cool weather makes it ideal for strolling through the woods.

My mental health is
relatively good, right now. Best it's been in years, in fact.
I know that I'm going to die by violence, and soon. So every day I wake up not dead makes me reasonably happy. I'm just waiting for the white flash, and I hope they'll do it at night so that it'll just be another nightmare. I'm used to those.
And still, they expect people who feel like me to *vote for them*? Amazing, innit?
If I were to plan it from the Russian side for a first strike, I'd mark the start of the whole thing by detonating one of the 10+MT devices that they undoubtedly have floating around in LEO (as a "failed GPS/GNSS satellite") when it was right over the middle of the country (pretty much directly overhead to me, here in Denver). That EMP would take out non-hardened C&C communications worldwide, as well much of the power grid. Detection of that EMP would also be the signal for everything else to begin: their attack subs to splash all the US boomers that they have locations on, and probably all the carrier groups as well. Their boomers could then use their short-traveling SLBMs to target the bomber leg of the triad at Minot, Whiteman, and Barksdale, who would probably not even get off the ground. And then their ICBMs could be saved back 5 minutes or so for relatively leisurely destruction of the industrial and population centers a few minutes later. Our ICBMs would launch at about the same time as theirs, and take out everything they had population and industry-wise.
Some boomers and some bombers would undoubtedly escape to go wreak a few more horrors here and there, but by and large the deal will be completely done in the first 30 minutes with the ICBMs from the hardened silos doing the heavy lifting, in the blind. The bombers that do get off the ground from either side won't need to land.
All it'll take is one of the Bhangmeters on one of the DoD satellites to detect a double-flash, or for us to lose contact all at once with all of them.
If I were asked to plan it from our side, I'd do the same thing: big EMP event = go time; period, end of statement. Who needs CC&C under those circumstances? There will be no limited nuclear engagement. Once the first one goes and CC&C is gone, they will all go- use 'em or lose 'em.

It's a gross injustice. At least in that scenario here in Denver we'd see the flash from the EMP shot at the same time the power goes out and the satellite/internet feeds all goes down. So, if I'm awake, that'd leave time here to make a drink and go watch the fun when the real MIRVing and under-50,000ft airbursts get going. Just look north.
The old Mountain States Bell building in town, down by the DCPA, is the junction for the vast majority of the fiber network points-of-presence in service today, and every big telecom giant has major satellite uplink/downlink stations within 30 or 40 miles of here. That's a feature of being in the middle of the continent.
That block of buildings between 14th, 15th, Champa, and Curtis (including the old AT&T Long Lines building and the old Denver Electric building) is now a major hub for digital interconnectivity and cloud storage, selling bandwidth and rack space to all comers. The big building is now owned by Lumen Technologies, or maybe Brightspeed- who can keep track with all the consolidation. But if you want to shut down telecom, just zap that address. 'Tain't particularly hardened.
That is arguably the number 1 priority 1 target here, but it is followed closely by Lockheed Missiles and Space out southwest of town, Buckley ANG (radar and weaponry training), and several others- plus we get the fun of Colorado Springs only being a few miles away, with NORAD, the Air Force Academy, Schreiver AFB (home of the Space Force!), and so on.

The picture is indeed somewhat out of character for the artist, but I've stumbled across an assortment of stuff that similarly seems unusual when compared to the normal run of his art as popularized.
The article is very good especially drawing the dividing line between situationism and dispositionism. This early quote:
