Welcome to Saturday's Potluck - 7-30-2022

The heat wave is going to continue the next few days. Some of livestock is a little stressed after several days of 100+ weather. A little extra animal husbandry which will continue for a few more days.

Current events have been extremely well covered by our various c99 contributors this week so I am going to shift gears and present a little history.

Astoria was the first permanent Oregon settlement by a New York City company in 1812. It was established a little more than 200 years after Jamestown, Virginia, the east coast's first permanent English settlement by a London Company. A British warship shows ups and claims the settlement for The Crown for a few years.

The next stage was missionaries and settlers, Wikipedia's description.

The Oregon missionaries were pioneers who settled in the Oregon Country of North America starting in the 1830s dedicated to bringing Christianity to local Native Americans.[1] There had been missionary efforts prior to this, such as those sponsored by the Northwest Company with missionaries from the Church of England starting in 1819.[2] The Foreign Mission movement was already 15 years underway by 1820, but it was difficult to find missionaries willing to go to Oregon, as many wanted to go to the east, to India or China.[1] It was not until the 1830s, when a schoolmaster from Connecticut, Hall Jackson Kelley, created his "American Society for the Settlement of the Oregon Country," that more interest and support for Oregon missionaries grew.

Oregon was admitted as a state in 1859.

Good morning. Thanks for the Saturday Potluck. Some interesting perspectives on the settlers.
I hope the indigenous tribes were treated better there than some other territories.

Pretty hot here on the right coast as well. Could use a shot of rain. Can't imagine how you are
able to keep your critters cool.

Good luck!

I don't know much about the left coast and especially Oregon.

Caught the MacGregor clip yesterday. I find him on target. Too bad Trumpolini didn't listen to his advice.
Another interesting conversation with Gonzalo and ex-CIA Johnson and McGovern, as well as professor Postol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtf1yod_p4w
A discussion of nuclear weapons control treaties between the US and Russia, and why now we are closer to a nuclear war than ever before.

We've finally been getting some rain. Harvesting lots of tomatoes, peppers and figs. Time to start thinking about fall plantings...won't be long till we're there. It really is my favorite time to garden...more pleasant weather, fewer insects, less disease and so on.

Take care of yourself and the livestock in the heat. It is ironic our high temp has only been mid 90's, however with our high humidity it feels plenty hot. The high pressure bubble sat over the west this summer. More chaos to come as flooding plagues other parts of the country.

Thanks for the OT!

Come on, Joe! We didn’t even get the full $2,000 check you promised us. But good gravy dude. Nothing like pulling figures out of wherever you keep your thoughts. Might have been better if Joe had said that if you’re only making $30,000 a year that $8k check would be a game changer.

On another note Biden’s approval rating is around 39% and when one prominent blogger pointed this out and said that Biden could help his ratings by giving student loan relief boy did he get dawg piled for not getting his pony yet. And he was told that Biden is a kind man who’s doing the best he can with all the republican obstructionism he’s been facing. But hey weren’t we told that we should elect Biden cuz he knows how to get republicans to work with him? Lol…he can’t even get his own party to work with him.

Hey also do you remember the crap democrats gave Trump for building the wall? Guess what Biden’s doing?

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

Apparently this is MBS of Saudi Arabia neat idea to cram millions of people into a glass city where they will all live happily ever after. I’m guessing that they won’t need their own cars which will meet Klaus Schwab's great plan for us to give up our cars and just share them with people you don’t know. The farms will grow bugs and GMO crops and OH HELL NO!

It’s not that I’m against building wonderful new cities and houses but good lord to cram millions in such a small area seems like a dystopian nightmare to me. And I doubt they are wanting to do that for our own good. If they were we wouldn’t have millions of Americans who are homeless whilst Blackrock and their ilk are buying homes just so they can rent them out at ridiculous rents. Congress would be doing everything in their power to make owning a home affordable not raising interest rates to keep more people from buying them.

mind today is personal. Just back from farmers' market, so now serious menu planning begins. Tons of stuff to do around here, garden, tree, landscaping, etc. plus sorting out hardware issues. Feel more like napping, but I guess that's out.

still no rain, some light mist early this am. Starting to heat up a bit too.

The endless dilemma, schedule everything first or just dive in. Time to start one or the other.

be well and have a good one

but it’s pretty clear he can trounce the vast majority of humanity in this particular skill set. It’s not just about the size of the brain but how well you use what you’ve got!

Take this game and this chimp to any bar in America and you’ll be drinking for free all night.

Biden tests positive again for the Rona. Guess that paxlovid doesn’t work very well. Fauci got a double dose too after taking it.
