Welcome to today's open thread. A space for you to post whatever is on your mind.
Haven't much in the way of a theme today, so please fill in the blanks. Thanks!
Former senior advisor the Secretary of Defense Col. Doug Macgregor joins Max Blumenthal and Aaron Mate for a candid, live discussion of the Russia-Ukraine war and his time in the Trump administration when an Afghan withdrawal was sabotaged and conflict with Iran and Syria continued.
A permanent end to the Changing of the Clocks ritual so many of us find annoying and unnecessary is in sight! The Senate passed and the House is expected to vote on and pass a bill that will end Daylight Savings Time. If all goes well, November should be the last time we need to do this.
No help for Alabama and other states which have time zone divisions, but one less confusion should still be a positive change.
My late husband always did the clock changing in our household because he was tall and reaching up for the battery powered kitchen clock was easy for him and over time, changing all the clocks fell into his task side of the family chores. After he died, those 2 days were painful for me and each year I approach the changing with sadness.
is to make DST permanent. Can't quite figure out why they just leave it standard.
Better yet, keep all the clocks on a GMT (or UTC) world time. Just requires a few additions
or subtractions, but made much simpler to get rid of the seasonal clocks.
Proposals to stay on standard time or move to full-time DST appear on the legislative agenda in the United States nearly every clock change. Since 2015, more than 200 daylight saving bills and resolutions have been introduced in almost every state across the US, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

country that really believes that we get "extra" sunlight by invoking Dastardly Stupid Time. At some point, after it has been permanent for a few years, the more astute among will slowly begin to realize that there has been no net gain. At that point I suspect that we will see an ever increasing clamor for twice daily change, setting clocks back to 10 pm at local midnight and then forward to 2 pm at local noon. This will be believed to cause the sun to rise much earlier and set much later, giving much more daylight for shopping and picnics and such as well as giving plants 50% more sunlight, resulting in much better crops.

I suspect that in the fullness of time some Senate Savants(tm) will realize tht despite all the closk fiddling, the longest days are still the days of summer. This will being forth a movement to make June start at midnight April 30 and July end at midnight August 31. They will, nonetheless, insist on receiving full pay for May and August even though those months have been eliminated. By then, we will be commercially and financially isolated from the rest of the world, and deservedly so.

find a way to fuck this up, they most assuredly will. Oh, and they'll undoubtedly end up quietly tacking on a clause that allocates an additional $1.8 trillion to the defense budget to study the effects that the change will have on the readiness of our armed forces to kill us all- that's really important as well.

It is astounding to me this time change bill passing the senate to make DST permanent. Too bad Trumps middle initial wasn't 'S', they'd have never passed it. It reflects America's ignorant arrogance perhaps as well as anything. It also shows the complete disconnect between people and the natural world, that is, reality. They think playing with a clock will make it better. Like taking a pill instead of exercising and eating right. Any superficial feel-good act will do. Let's change the time.
No one living where it is very hot wants the sun up longer. No one that farms or ranches wants it getting light later. Right now in spring? No biologist I ever met, and I spent my life around them, ever thought this was a good idea. No one into nature thinks it is smart, intelligent, or enlightened. It is unnatural. As such it goes against the laws of nature. It goes against the circadian rhythms millions and millions of years in the making. How can people's lives have become so artificial? That was rhetorical.
What matters is what the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Wall St. wants. What matters is the completely man-made artificial world the city people live in. Not the real natural world. American man has to be the most ignorant arrogant life form on the planet. An entire world of mankind, and only in America was this cockameme plan hatched. The people are so removed from reality, it gained traction. To cut 6" off one end of the blanket, put it on the other, and think you have a longer blanket.
Sure high noon has nothing to do with when the sun is highest. And midnight has nothing to do with the middle of the night. If you want to live in your pretend fantasy world where everything is made up fine, don't poison the rest of us with your misguided beliefs about time. Change yer fn clocks to anything you want them to be. Leave us that live in reality, trying to be in harmony with the natural world, out of it. The way you can tell it is a cult religion, marketing, and politics, is that they call it something it is not: 'saving time'. When it does nothing of the sort.
Of course this was done before, it lasted what a year or two before it was rescinded when it became clear more children were being hit by cars having to go to school in the dark.

I think of you when the usual 5 male Cardinals hang out at the feeder, but when the total is 9, I really wish you were here.
Savings of light = $ to merchants. Nature be damned, and little tykes crossing the street in the morning are just someone else's concern.
We now have 9 male cardinals in the late afternoon. They hide in branches, then go to the sun, and they just show off like beauty contestants.

Thanks OTC! Very cool with the Cardinal flock! You probably have as many females or nearly so. My wife just day before yesterday said 16 here, counting females though. What a great bird. There was a guy with place near Utely (Bastrop area) and he some years in winter had flocks of like 50, 70, and 90! I would not want the sunflower seed bill.
Cards are the first and last things at the cracks of light to the seed. I told a friend and said they must be the hardest working birds. He told me of a motion detector study on them in which they found out they sleep much of the day! LOL Of course when nesting, they are working around the clock for a few months.
TYVM! Be well!

He comes across as an entitled brat who expects much from others without ever caring what the toll might be to those others.
In his latest grand gesture he has said that he would agree to keep Ukr out of NATO. I think by this time we have found the value of his word.
Our Joe said yesterday that we might have to rethink our defense of the EU and NATO --- Oops, freudian slip. He said Europe.
I think Russia has shown that all that very expensive armament we sent was as effective as what we sent to Afg. I have no doubt Joe wants us to send more, harder, against an enemy with one tenth the spending and 5 times the passion. It's almost like money and profit doesn't motivate some people.
I also keep hearing that if he makes peace the Azov's have threatened to kill him and his family. That's the problem with having Nazi battalions in your army. They did kill one negotiator who wanted to meet Russia's demands and therefore assassinated for "treason" https://www.rt.com/russia/551363-ukraine-negotiator-death/

Ok. have all a pleasant day. The garden calls for attention and I would love to be stronger, because gardening is a beautiful thing to do.
Considering that we might have to heat our houses with wood, when we neither can afford or get oil or gas or electricity, what would you do with so many wood branches falling all over the garden. Should I cut them and store them inside the house to have something for a woodstove to heat?
of course it is all the Russians fault that we have winter seasons.

In my imagination you were a black woman in her fifties. Oh boy, now I have to be more careful and polite. An old woman, age 73, should never mock a 76 year old man, especially when she is German and he is Scottish (to me scottish and british is almost the same, all the islander over the canal, heh /s.)
Thank you for all the non anynomous beautiful details. i am so shocked, i have to digest it before I try to restart thinking about you a bit. Thank you, that was lovely and very kind of you.

that the only thing I remember from the dailykos times before I was dismissed and thrown in into this corner of the blogistas' world. (thanks to whoever did this, I am very happy here at C99p) I remember as much as nothing at all. I talked a lot of stuff back at the pre-2015 times and apparently annoyed a lot of people, who I don't know, never knew and were pretty irrelevant to me.
One of the few gooder guys I remember was a French banker, 'Jerome a Paris'. Markos seemed to be a little scared of him and I found that was amusing. I remember a couple of badder folks, but I never looked back, I also never search something on the TOP place. If I want to know something about what happened to someone over there, I ask Snoopydawg. Luckily she (snoopy) has her nose everywhere and always knows who and what smells like. Thanks Snoopy-
I will search for your comments now and try to make you welcomed and more at home here chez

The minimum wage in Russia, according to a clause in this new bill Putin signed, defines minimum wage as a wage families can live on. (The US Living Wage---going nowhere fast)
Here is more from today's speech:
President #Putin: I want ordinary citizens of Western states to listen. They are now trying to convince you that all your difficulties are the result of Russia's hostile actions. That you need to pay for the fight against the mythical Russian threat. It's all a lie! pic.twitter.com/DRwHzAZGE1
Now that DuckDuckGo has officially DuckDuckGone in the direction of censorship, what's a free speech-loving, liberty-minded conspiracy realist to do? Never fear, #SolutionsWatch is here. In the first of a series of explorations of Alt Tech, James talks to Colin Pape of Presearch, a decentralized search engine that is seeking to offer an alternative to the Big Tech monopolization of search.
Vice President Harris will be hitting the road more frequently in the coming weeks and months, sources familiar with the plans tell The Hill.
With COVID-19 cases declining across the nation, Harris will be spending more time crisscrossing the country and touting the successes of the administration, the sources say.
Anyone who might think this is in any way a reasonable deterrent has absolutely no idea what it involves. Whoa! It's magic! These drones will appear in the Ukr skies and in minutes, voila! We're winning!
Where will the drones be based? How will they get there? Who will control their targetting?
Every day I become more amazed at the intellectual level of our "leaders". Not surprised, amazed.

I've read that the US' anti-aircraft hardware and software cannot detect, let alone destroy, new weapons the Kremlin has.
Pepe has detailed their names repeatedly. Kalibr and Iskander IIRC.

"Good job Joe. You keep sending Ukraine deadlier weapons and let’s keep this war going for decades and the hell with Ukrainian lives."
The drones are called switchblades which has a lovely ring to them? Hopefully they aren’t sending the ones that dice up people after they explode. Chopping and dicing innocent civilians is just something that the American killing industry would do.

Spring has sprung here in central TX. At least I think it has. I'm counting on no more dips into the freezing temp zone. Could be a mistake but I'm going with it. Today I'm planting Mexican Mint Marigold ( Tagetes Lucida) that I propagated over the winter. It's supposed to be a native in the Southwest. Looks like they grew this specimen in Germany.
Best wishes with your pluming issues...hope the job is a straightforward fix.

with shit everywhere, oh what you gonna do?
glad spring is coming back there
it is helpful to hear about anything positive

This morning my toilet failed to flush properly.
I called Dean, one of the longtime handymen, who works for the tenants as well as the landlord who pays him.
Dean arrived in less than 1/2 hour and scoffed at my plunger. "Throw that out," he said. "Look at this newer model, it's yours."
I thanked him with twice my usual monetary thank you to include the cost of the plunger, and thanked the good fortune that landed me in this secure place to grow old. even older, I should say.

Gorgeous weather! While I was in court, getting my client custody of his two children, my hubby was clipping, trimming, mowing both the yard at home and my office yard. Just so lovely!
And, for mimi: I will be 70 in a few weeks. I am 12 % African, 12% Cherokee, the rest English, so I am some kind of white mutt. I am about as woman as woman gets. Lawyer, but on the side, animal rescuer, occasional rancher, occasional farmer, former dressage competitor up to Prix St. George level, and a champion of poor criminal defendants, and court appointed to represent anybody who is mentally challenged, or any person of color who may have been subjected to racial discrimination.
The successful trial today was my fabulous African American Dad winning custody of his 13 year old daughter and 4 year old son. He was crying as we walked out of the courthouse. My client's Mom is a dear friend, so the pressure was on me. I handled it pretty damn well.

Thank you!
Want to laugh at me?
In my imagination you were a white female lawyer in her fifties. I always wanted to have a lawyer I could trust, close enough to me to talk to me in person, because - well it would be nice to understand all those damn laws on both sides of the Atlantic (forget about the Pacific)
At least since I am back in Germany I have a burning desire in me to throw those legal-know-it-all without a soul and without a social conscience in a pit with hot tar and make a real nice soup with them. (Sorry, but those I got to deal with, are just a nuisance, but I got a better lawyer than the rest and so I win with all my demands - ha, bingo.)
Your age is the one thing I had not imgagined. Congratulations to have such kind hustband and buddy to help with all things that get too much over time when one hits the 70.
Good luck and - oh I have a question - how did your parents and ancestors manage to make you an exactly 12% of everthing in your genes? /just kidding.
Give all the horses in your life a gentle touch on their noses. I love your love for horses and remember your caring words for them.
@mimi
The family story about a Cherokee woman marrying a ancestor, and a half Cherokee ancestor marrying a free black man right after the Civil War was proven true by science.
That whole thing about 70 is a shock to me. I feel no different than when I turned 50. I am as active as I was in my 50s. I believe I just got genetically lucky!
I can't think of a better way to share food, then to share an apple with a horse.
Hope you can enjoy some time outdoors today.

I felt like 50 til the time the first news about the corono virus became known. I don't remember when I went downhill. But have no time and appetite to look it up.
Sharing an apple with a horse, sounds like a love story between Adam and Eve.
Good Night. Our weather here is flimsy, unpredictable and annoying, like the 5G network. I wished I wouldn't need my totally dumb smart phone. Too tired right now to chat a bit more.
Thanks for your kind explanations.

Excellent interview...

The first hour, the 2nd hour is Max and Aaron's analysis
Y'all have a good day. Rained 1.5" here last night, so wet and gray this AM.
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Good News! Good Morning
guys---QMS & Lookout
NYCVG
My understanding on the DST on the house proposal
is to make DST permanent. Can't quite figure out why they just leave it standard.
Better yet, keep all the clocks on a GMT (or UTC) world time. Just requires a few additions
or subtractions, but made much simpler to get rid of the seasonal clocks.
https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/
Seems we can't even get our clocks together.
Sadly, it seems that there is a large faction in this
country that really believes that we get "extra" sunlight by invoking Dastardly Stupid Time.

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
Addendum --
I suspect that in the fullness of time some Senate Savants(tm) will realize tht despite all the closk fiddling, the longest days are still the days of summer. This will being forth a movement to make June start at midnight April 30 and July end at midnight August 31. They will, nonetheless, insist on receiving full pay for May and August even though those months have been eliminated. By then, we will be commercially and financially isolated from the rest of the world, and deservedly so.
be well and have a good one
That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
If they can
find a way to fuck this up, they most assuredly will. Oh, and they'll undoubtedly end up quietly tacking on a clause that allocates an additional $1.8 trillion to the defense budget to study the effects that the change will have on the readiness of our armed forces to kill us all- that's really important as well.
My expectations are below zero at this point.
Twice bitten, permanently shy.
daylight stupid time
It is astounding to me this time change bill passing the senate to make DST permanent.
Please don't get me started people...
love ya all!

I don't think much of Zelensky

Ok. have all a pleasant day. The garden calls for attention and I would love to be stronger, because gardening is a beautiful thing to do.
Considering that we might have to heat our houses with wood, when we neither can afford or get oil or gas or electricity, what would you do with so many wood branches falling all over the garden. Should I cut them and store them inside the house to have something for a woodstove to heat?
of course it is all the Russians fault that we have winter seasons.

yes, cutting down fallen branches
and storing them in a place away from the rain (preferably in the sun) will give you
good burning wood.

growing up in abject poverty in Appalachia during the wind down of the war when the memories of that war and sacrifice were so fresh.
I was apolitical until the early 70s when I realized that my gov't was spending more to lie to me than in making our plight better.
And then watched all that had been invested in our commons being stolen.
BTW, last week I decided to post a few comments. Something I hadn't done since the Hillary/neolib purge of Bernie Bros in 2015.
That is so wonderful to post again here, I admit
that the only thing I remember from the dailykos times before I was dismissed and thrown in into this corner of the blogistas' world.
