Link to JAMA-Efficacy of Ivermectin Treatment on Disease Progression Among Adults With Mild to Moderate COVID-19 and Comorbidities

Question Does adding ivermectin, an inexpensive and widely available antiparasitic drug, to the standard of care reduce the risk of severe disease in patients with COVID-19 and comorbidities?

Findings In this open-label randomized clinical trial of high-risk patients with COVID-19 in Malaysia, a 5-day course of oral ivermectin administered during the first week of illness did not reduce the risk of developing severe disease compared with standard of care alone.

Meaning The study findings do not support the use of ivermectin for patients with COVID-19.

Posting this information again for those who missed it.

Let the mental gymnastics begin to reject these findings published in JAMA.
Because public health officials are part of a great conspiracy to keep people sick.

@jbob

No one is telling you to take it, but you want to keep others from accessing an effective treatment?
From the study

The 28-day in-hospital mortality rate was similar for the ivermectin and control groups (3 [1.2%] vs 10 [4.0%]; RR, 0.31; 95% CI, 0.09 to 1.11; P = .09), as was the length of hospital stay after enrollment (mean [SD], 7.7 [4.4] days vs 7.3 [4.3] days; mean difference, 0.4; 95% CI, −0.4 to 1.3; P = .38).

So 1.2% of the IVM arm died and 4% of the control group died.

Publication Bias: given my personal knowledge of a number of researchers whose profoundly positive ivermectin studies were rejected by JAMA, they, for the second time in a row, reveal a profound publication bias. It is a well-known disinformation tactic for high impact journals like JAMA to somehow only publish studies without “statistically significant benefits” for medicines that Pharma does not want to see in play (generally generic medicines), as they similarly avoid publishing studies of “harms” associated with Pharma favored products (i.e tobacco studies last century and/or vaccine studies this one). What is fascinating is that JAMA’s (“PHAMA’s”) ivermectin papers actually all report important benefits, but most importantly for JAMA, none that reach “statistical significance."

Study Conclusion: JAMA saw fit to ensure inclusion of this phrase at the end of the conclusion, “the findings do not support the use of ivermectin for treatment of mild COVID-19,” despite what could arguably be called a compellingly supportive study based on a number of important, near statistically significant reductions in secondary outcomes like death. An absurdly obvious reason why statistical significance was not reached was that, in this population of patients, like many other upcoming trials (NIH’ ACTIV-6, U Minnesota’s COVID-OUT, Oxford’s Principle trial etc) they allowed patients to enter the trial up to 7 days from first symptoms. It is well known anti-virals efficacy is strongest.. early. In this trial, the average time from first symptoms was 5.1 days with a confidence interval of 1.3, meaning, pretty much nobody got treatment within 3 days of symptoms. Yet, this critical feature of this trial gets ignored in the conclusion (many conclusions will include important limitations of the study’s findings, unsurprisingly, not this one).

@Lookout @Lookout
Questions can be threatening to my incomplete understanding of what is actually going on. All of us have incomplete understandings about everything. We build a latticework structure of things that we ‘know’ and put aside that which does not ‘fit’ and include that which does. Inevitably we adopt some information which is false as we also reject some that is true. We are human, we make mistakes.

When my questioning stops, whether due to satisfaction with my (still incomplete) understanding or from a simple lack of curiosity, I see that my understanding stops growing. I used to think questions were meant to be answered at all cost. I was a question killer, and I was pretty good at it. Then I came to realize that questions were the impetus for taking the next step. That without questions movement was impossible, that instead of continuing to learn I became a prisoner of my beliefs, defending instead of exploring. Over the years, I came to value questions like my next breath.

But that’s just me……YMMV

@jbob The mental gymnastics were done by those who wrote the conclusion to that article. As was discussed heavily yesterday (and even before), the conclusion of that article contradicts its own data set.
3 dead out of 240 IV users.
10 dead out of 250 non IV users.
Simple back of the napkin math tells us IV could have saved around 600,000 lives in America.
And don't forget, the 60-70 studies that support the use of IV show that it performs best as a preventative. And in this study it was used as a treatment for those already testing positive.

posted it yesterday. But why can’t you dialogue with the people who have found fault with the study instead of trying to score points? If you don’t think ivermectin would work for you then just don’t take it. You can take your chances with remdisiver instead if you get sick. Others should be free to decide what’s best for them don’t you think? Unless you have another agenda by posting every bad news about ivermectin you find. Will you respond?

and ultimately, for all of the world.

The Vote in the Canadian Parliament will decide whether to make Trudeau's Emergency order Legal, or to deny and end it. That Vote takes place this morning.

A General Strike has been called, for 5 days starting today.

I'm hoping that Democracy/as opposed to Authoritarian rule, prevails.

@NYCVG Over 900,000 people have died from the disease. But what has been done to mitigate
this disaster? First it was flatten the curve, then wear masks, then came the Warp Vaccine, then Warp Vaccine II, and finally the Booster shot and one would think that would do it but I hear Pfizer is working on an Omicron shot that might need a booster also, yet with each following item deaths have grown higher, so have any of answers worked? I think they have not. I think we are being lied to.

So either I'm a RWMJ, a misogynist,a rascist, a Nazi, a conspiracy theorist or all the above if you ask a neoshitlib

but that's not the goal. The goal is control, and taking more from all of us means that we can't support popular politicians, can't demonstrate against policies we don't like, can't object to changes in the law that benefit the practices of our employers.

are dropping all Covid restrictions. Not relaxing some at a time, but whoosh all at once. Many can be relaxed, but apparently they aren’t concerned with people dying anymore cuz they are telling people that they can go to work even if testing positive and having symptoms. Plus if you want to get tested then you have to pay for it yourself. Sweet way for cases to go down and make things seem like everything is all better. I’m just wondering what the real reason is. You know how cynical I am.

permanent. I don’t remember what part of it, but it’s one of the worst ones. I can’t see how it’s legal to punish people for doing something that wasn’t illegal when they did it, but it’s what they are doing to some businesses that served the truckers. I posted about it yesterday.

beat up a few protesters just because they wanted to.

We see that behavior at almost every protest that was actually being peaceful until they showed up and started being violent. Cops beat the crap out of the civil rights protesters and set dawgs loose on them for no other reason than they could. Saw it again during the Vietnam war protests and even watched as they killed unarmed students. Again during the BLM protests against police brutality with the fully militarized cops and their bear cat vehicles and pointing weapons at unarmed people including children. I haven’t seen any leader calling that out. I guess there is one way to keep us from getting beaten by cops and that is a general strike where no one is in the streets, but at home not buying anything or going to work. Make it a silent protest and take away cop's overtime. Hopefully the one in Canada takes off and then more countries join in.
