The McNay museum has a Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit now. The building and grounds are beautiful as well. https://www.mcnayart.org/exhibitions/

The San Antonio Museum of Art has an exhibit that sounds great; Wendy Red Star https://www.samuseum.org

The Japanese Tea Garden, located just outside the grounds of the SA Zoo at Brackenridge Park , is very pretty and has lots of native plants. It is winter so I don't know if it's up to snuff just now but I do like the landscaping.

@randtntx Great call on the Japanese Tea Garden. Place is amazingly beautiful. My wife and I went there regularly when we lived in SAT. There is a neat historic narrow-gauge train that is operational in Brackenridge Park as well. Actually Brackenridge Pk. was where I spent hundreds of hours birding along the river there.

Be well amigo!

@dystopian , I haven't been to the Tea Garden in a long time. I agree, it is a very pretty place, but spring might be better. The little train was always a hit especially after school with the kids (but I liked it just as much). I didn't know there was birding along the river in the park... nice.
It is a good time to go to Enchanted Rock for sure. It's a bit of a hike to the top and much better to do in cool weather like we have now, instead of in the summer.
Nice to see you!

Well okay if you’re on a road trip to play hockey in Texas I guess that’s okay..what? You meant hooked? My bad. The willow loop looks like it’d be my choice. Love to see the landscape of any state. One of my favorite trips was going over the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin county and getting lost taking the backroads. I never knew where I’d end up by boy the scenery was incredibly pretty. Have a great weekend and enjoy your travels. Take lots of pictures!

Hi all,

Hi JtC, Sounds like a great hill country tour! Give it a couple months and it will be in bloom instead of winter. I have never been to Enchanted Rock. Would love to be there on the right day when the wind makes it sing. Used to email with the dude that discovered and named the Enchanted Rock Fly, endemic to the rock! Chris Durden, a Texas entomologist. I would strongly recommend not missing that fly. Wink Must be about as range-restricted of a species as there is. Though the hill country though has several each of subterranean salamanders and 'daddy-longlegs' (Harvestmen) that only live in one cave. The flies are probably not flying this time of year?

I hear the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is spectacular. I would imagine it better in spring/summer when blooming as well. It is popular amongst birders, botanists, and entomologists. Wife and I had friends with a ranch on that Willow City road about 8-9 miles north of F'bg. They had the biggest Purple Martin colony in Gillespie Co., over 100 active gourds on a big tower. F'bg is a neat little town.

Isn't the Alamo that place some Stones and Ozzy were both arrested at for pissing on the wall? Not at the same time. Wife and I lived in SAT a couple years in late 80's.

Have a great trip, safe travels!
