Silicon Valley Should Not Restrict Public Discourse About Covid Measures Which Affect Everyone
Twitter has banned the account of controversial virologist Dr Robert Malone, who reportedly had half a million followers at the time of his removal. Malone is credited even by mainstream critics as having played a significant role in the development of the mRNA technology being used for Covid-19 vaccines today, but has recently come under fire for comments about the safety of those vaccines’ use on children which the Authorized Fact Checkers have labeled “dangerously and flagrantly incorrect.”
Everyone should oppose the removal of Malone and commentators who share his views, regardless of whether they agree with them or vehemently despise them. The reason for this is very simple: only a fool would support government-tied monopolistic billionaire corporations regulating public discourse about Covid responses which affect us all. This is true regardless of what you personally happen to believe about mRNA vaccines.
Arguments that Malone and his ilk are peddling “misinformation” have no bearing on the question of whether they should be removed from the platforms everyone uses to debate ideas and discuss information. It is entirely legitimate to make arguments that their claims are inaccurate, but it is not at all legitimate to claim that platforms which large sectors of humanity have come to rely on for public discourse should interfere with or obstruct those conversations.
Even if we were to accept unconditionally the position that people should be banned from such platforms if they are posting “misinformation”, who exactly do we imagine would be determining whether something is misinformation or not? Will we be consulting some impartial, agendaless, omniscient demigod through some sort of crystal ball or magical rune portal? Or would we in fact be relying on flawed human beings looking at the information through the lens of their own cognitive biases, agendas, perceptual distortions and knowledge limitations?
I ask because historically what these giant Silicon Valley corporations have been doing to determine who gets to have a voice and who doesn’t is working in consultation with think tanks funded by governments and the military-industrial complex like the Atlantic Council and the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, as well as working with the US government directly to an increasingly intimate degree. This fact is devastating to the popular argument that these are merely private corporations enforcing their Terms of Service, since they are becoming inseparably interwoven with government power. In a corporatist system of government, corporate censorship is state censorship.
Public discourse is consolidated on these gigantic platforms to such an extent that getting your ideas heard by a large number of people requires participation in them, and now they are determining how issues of such immense political importance as government pandemic responses may be discussed, and doing so in increasingly intimate collaboration with the most powerful governments on earth.
These restrictions on public discourse about the way human civilization responds to Covid-19 were first normalized in 2020 by the deplatforming of weirdos like David Icke for conspiracy theories linking coronavirus symptoms to 5G, and that normalization has continued to metastasize so far over the last year and a half that it’s now considered perfectly acceptable for these platforms to ban a popular scientific researcher whose work helped develop mRNA vaccines for expressing his scientific opinion about them.
Humanity is a mess. We’re dealing with so many deep, deep problems and facing so many existential hurdles in our immediate future, and it’s clear that the people in charge aren’t going to navigate us through them with any degree of skill. This means we’re going to have to figure things out as a collective, and we’re not going to be able to do that if we’re forbidden from communicating with each other in ways the powerful don’t approve.
Certainly allowing human speech to flourish unrestricted would mean a lot of people saying things that we disagree with, and even saying things that are objectively and demonstrably wrong. But the alternative is allowing speech to be controlled by the same power structure which saw fit to invade Iraq, which is currently committing genocide in Yemen and pushing us toward direct military confrontation with Russia and China. Government-tied oligarchic megacorporations are among the very last institutions who should be in charge of worldwide political discourse.
The future of humanity depends on our ability to bring light to the darkness, to bring awareness to that of which we are not aware. As with individual awakening, a collective awakening will necessarily be sloppy, clumsy, and full of confrontation and awkward conversations. But it’s the only way we can begin working our way toward becoming a species whose actions are based on truth rather than untruth, on consciousness rather than unconsciousness. Until that happens, we will necessarily continue along our self-destructive trajectory.
Experts Warn Merck's FDA-Authorized Covid Pill Could 'Create Breeding Ground for Mutant Viruses'
Merck's anti-viral coronavirus pill has been heralded as a "gamechanger" in the fight against the deadly global pandemic, and the Food and Drug Administration decided last week to authorize the treatment on an emergency-use basis for certain segments of the U.S. population.
But public health experts in recent days have increasingly sounded alarm over the potential drawbacks of molnupiravir, including the frightening possibility that it could—in the words of one researcher—"create a breeding ground for mutant viruses," thereby prolonging the pandemic and adding to its grisly death toll.
"The problem with molnupiravir lies in its mechanism of action," Michael Lin, associate professor of neurobiology and bioengineering at Stanford University, wrote in a recent op-ed for the Washington Post. "Unlike any previous antiviral drug, molnupiravir does only one thing: It introduces mutations into the viral genome."
Lin noted that while "we are already familiar with the fact that viruses naturally mutate to evade immunity... molnupiravir relies on inducing even more mutations so that eventually the virus' proteins are damaged beyond function. That molnupiravir can mutate SARS-CoV-2 to death has been demonstrated in the controlled conditions of a petri dish and lab animal cages, leading Merck to test it in covid-19 patients in clinical trials."
"But people are not petri dishes or lab animals, and while molnupiravir works to some extent, it has not worked very well in Covid-19 patients," Lin observed, pointing to data showing that Merck's pill has proven far less effective in preventing hospitalization than Pfizer's, which the FDA authorized for emergency use last Wednesday.
"The worst-case scenario is worrisome," he continued. "As long as molnupiravir is in use somewhere in the world, it could generate repeated cycles of new variants, with people desperately taking the drug to fight the new variants it spawns, creating a vicious positive feedback loop while causing more suffering and deaths... The FDA and Merck have essentially engaged the public in a gamble without public debate."
Lin's concerns about molnupiravir's capacity to generate new coronavirus variants could hardly be characterized as fringe alarmism, given the chorus of expert voices raising similar objections to the treatment.
Dissenting members of the FDA's Antimicrobial Drugs Advisory Committee—which narrowly voted last month to declare that molnupiravir's potential benefits outweigh its risks—argued during a recent meeting that "the overall benefit-risk ratio" of the drug was "unfavorable," specifically citing the treatment's "potential to drive viral mutations" and its "mutagenicity risks."
European Medicines Agency similarly warned in its detailed assessment of the drug last month that available data "raises the question whether [the] virus that emerges during treatment and/or in subjects who fail treatment with molnupiravir could harbor mutations with significant consequences for the success of other products intended for prevention or treatment of Covid-19."
William Haseltine, a virologist renowned for his work on HIV and the human genome project, implored the FDA in a November 1 blog post to be circumspect in its handling of molnupiravir due to "the drug's potential to supercharge SARS-CoV-2 mutations and unleash a more virulent variant upon the world," along with other potential side effects.
"My biggest concern with this drug is much larger than the health of any one person, it is molnupiravir's ability to introduce mutations to the virus itself that are significant enough to change how the virus functions, but not so powerful as to stop it from replicating and becoming the next dominant variant," Haseltine wrote.
"The drug's manufacturers, Merck and Ridgeback, are entering into licensing deals that would allow the drug to be made and sold widely in more than 105 countries, which means that, if approved by regulators, we will soon have very little control over the drug’s administration and dosages delivered," he added. "We are potentially headed towards a world-class disaster."
Despite such fears from outside experts and members of one of its own advisory panels, the FDA announced on December 23 that molnupiravir can be used "for the treatment of mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease... in adults with positive results of direct SARS-CoV-2 viral testing, and who are at high risk for progression to severe Covid-19, including hospitalization or death, and for whom alternative Covid-19 treatment options authorized by the FDA are not accessible or clinically appropriate."
The Biden administration has already purchased millions of courses of the five-day treatment at a price point far higher than the cost of production. Merck, a New Jersey-based pharmaceutical company, charged the U.S. over $700 per patient for the pills, which—according to one expert analysis—cost just $17.74 per regimen to manufacture.
Over a month before the FDA issued its emergency-use authorization, the U.K.'s medicines regulator approved molnupiravir, declaring that the drug is "safe and effective at reducing the risk of hospitalization and death in people with mild to moderate Covid-19 who are at increased risk of developing severe disease."
It was U.K. Health Secretary Sajid Javid who in November described the drug as a potential "gamechanger."
On Tuesday, India approved Merck's pill for emergency use, and the nation's health minister said the treatment will be manufactured by 13 companies.
France, however, publicly canceled its order for Merck's treatment last week, describing the company's latest trial data on the drug's efficacy as disappointing.
"The latest studies weren't good," said Olivier Veran, France's health minister.
The rush by some nations to greenlight coronavirus treatments comes in the context of a global surge in cases believed to be fueled by the heavily mutated Omicron strain, which was first detected last month in southern Africa.

Fast-Spreading Omicron Variant Drives Up Pediatric Hospitalizations in Parts of US
With the fast-spreading Omicron variant now driving new Covid-19 cases up in the United States, public health officials are warning that just as South Africa did in early December, the country is seeing a surge in pediatric hospitalizations related to the disease.
The New York Department of Health reported Thursday that Covid-19 hospitalizations among children under the age of 18 began increasing four-fold the week of December 5 through the current week.
No child between the ages of five and 11 who was admitted to a hospital with Covid-19 over that period was vaccinated, the department said, and only a third of the children over age 11 had received a vaccine.
With children under age five ineligible for vaccination, officials warned families in New York that the best protection for very young children "is to ensure all those around them are fully protected through vaccination, boosters, proper mask-wearing, crowd avoidance, and testing."
Along with New York, Ohio, Texas, and Pennsylvania have been hit hard by pediatric hospitalizations. Nationwide, about 800 new hospital admissions of children have been reported every day for the past three days.
Nearly 2,000 pediatric patients with confirmed or suspected Covid-19 cases have been hospitalized nationally—a 31% increase over 10 days, according to The Washington Post.

CDC drastically drops estimate of US Omicron cases
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has revised down its estimates for US infection by the Omicron variant, stating it accounts for approximately 59% of all Covid cases in the US, not 73% as it previously said.
Nevertheless, the figures issued Tuesday indicates that Omicron is spreading rapidly in the US, growing from a revised estimate of 23% of cases as of 18 December. The correction shows that until the week before Christmas, the Delta variant remained dominant. ...
The disparity in estimates, while confirming the rapid spread of Omicron, also speaks to relative lack of precision in detecting a new variant that can only be confirmed by genetic analysis.
The news comes as the US surpassed its all-time total for new cases, according to figures from Johns Hopkins, with the daily total soaring above 512,000. However, the numbers come with the caveat that many testing centers were closed over the holiday weekend, and a CDC spokesperson told Politico that the number was likely an “overestimate” due to a delay in state reporting.

Are because of vaccination. They are counted as unvaxed if they have not had the vax for at least 2 weeks. So adverse reactions are counted as unvaxed.
The UK does NOT recommend COVID vax for children. The vaccines are a greater risk than COVID in children.

I struggle to feel confident that I have sorted out what is solid science from what is speculative or conspiratorial thinking. This article does a tremendous job with their sourcing and explaining their current positions. Well worth the time.
Here is Malone's statement on vaccines for kids....

The risk/benefit analysis isn’t even close.
As a parent and grandparent, my recommendation to you is to resist and fight to protect your children."
First of all note that he still claims that he created the mRNA technology.
Second, in a normal world, Malone would be subjected to tons of requests for scientific proof (clinical study with detailed stats and results) that the vaccine does all those things to children that he claims. He provides none. No research, no study that demonstrates these serious effects to children. It is all conjecture on his part. Lesions on the brain? Serious statement. Prove it!
But instead of him having to do that, he is subjected to banning and a diminishing of his platform to speak. This is why I object to that being done to anyone unless they are threatening others.
By doing this, Malone is off the hook to prove his statements and becomes a martyr for his cause.
At what point are we going to learn this lesson about speech and suppression of it?

OK... I read the whole article and followed several of the
links within, including the petition by all the doctors who are against vaccinating children with Covid shots. If you compare the list of conditions that Malone listed (the one that includes brain lesions etc. ) to the list of concerns in this article, there is a lot left out. I want to see Malone's evidence that kids who are vaccinated will get brain lesions and reproductive organ damage.
In the meantime, I had found a well balance article in the Atlantic that covered the pros and cons of covid vaccines for the 5-11 age group... risk of getting covid vs. possible side effects of the vaccines... and sent it to my two daughters. Each has an 8 year old daughter (and one has a 3 year old). They read the article along with other information and chose to have their girls vaccinated. Both are fine.

You should send them the pamphlet Sick Kids in case problems should develop in the coming months. Keep in mind that only 1,517 kids got the inoculation for the test that only ran a few months.

It is India's first indigenously developed recombinant protein sub-unit vaccine, health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said. That is, it's made up of the coronavirus' "spike protein", which the virus uses to latch on and enter human cells. When injected, this is expected to trigger an immune response in the body."

While it is indigenously produced, Corbevax’s beginnings can be traced to the Baylor College of Medicine’s National School of Tropical Medicine. The School had been working on recombinant protein vaccines for coronaviruses SARS and MERS for a decade.
“We knew all the techniques required to produce a recombinant protein (vaccine) for coronaviruses at high levels of efficiency and integrity,” said Dr Peter Hotez, Professor and Dean at the School.
When the genetic sequence for SARS-CoV-2 was made available in February 2020, researchers at the School pulled out the sequence for the gene for the spike protein, and worked on cloning and engineering it. The gene was then put into yeast, so that it could manufacture and release copies of the protein. “It’s actually similar to the production of beer. Instead of releasing alcohol, in this case, the yeast is releasing the recombinant protein,” Dr Hotez said.
After this, the protein was purified to remove any remnants of the yeast “to make it pristine”. Then, the vaccine was formulated using an adjuvant to better stimulate the immune response."

Some of these reports may also be reported to the individual country’s adverse reaction databases, such as the U.S. VAERS database and the UK Yellow Card system. The fatalities are grouped by symptoms, and some fatalities may have resulted from multiple symptoms.
It does seem weird that an eye disorder would cause death and it doesn’t say what the disorder is. If it causes a clotting disorder then it wouldn’t be just be localized in the eye, but be systematic in other organs like the heart or lung or others. I’ve read that people have suddenly lost eyesight and I assumed it was due to blood clots because it’s usually that or retinal detachment that causes sudden vision loss. A high percentage of people who have been jabbed tested with a D-dimer blood test have abnormal numbers meaning that there are micro clots in the blood stream which is usually not good news. Lots of people have had decreased platelet levels which can cause clots everywhere in the body.
That’s all I feel comfortable theorizing on as I’m only knowledgeable about lab tests and ophthalmology and not the other areas. As the report states there can be multiple symptoms which I think I just described for the info listed for other causes. Just my guess anyway.

We're staying mostly at home, wearing masks when we go out, dosing up on vitamins and minerals (C, D3, K2, zinc), even trying some preventative IVM. Sometimes I think we need to change tactics, get the omicron and get on with our lives. But I don't want Delta! It's still prominent in our little, remote, backwater town.

Sure private companies have the right to say what is acceptable on their websites, but when the government is telling them to crack down on free speech it is unconstitutional. Period. And democrats have been hauling in CEOs of social media and telling them to crack down on what THEY say is misinformation. That is the definition of government censorship.

Robert Malone on Spotify. Into the three hour podcast about forty minutes. So far fairly meaty and concise.
Malone tells the story in a way that is easy to follow. I do know the history quite well so that maybe part of why I understand most of it.
If you want the inside view I believe this would be worth it.
ETA: Joe Rogan is surprisingly articulate and well versed in the subject matter and players.

The Delta CEO will quickly learn that
sick flight attendants, operations agents (the folks who take your ticket), baggage handlers, food catering providers, fuelers, and many other people come into contact with pilots. Pilots cannot fly sick...not even a little bit. More sick employees will likely contribute to more sick pilots, and therefore more grounded airplanes.

I wondered how they would get around that problem
Step 1 more people returning to work still infected means that more people will be exposed to the virus and probably get sick and then when they return still infectious they expose more people to the virus. Sure seems to back up why I’m so cynical. I mentioned that either yesterday or the day before..so much information has swum through my head.
Step 2 more people get infected and gives the virus more chances to mutate.
Step 3 stay tuned.
