Biden has almost ended the drone war

Considering how much that we've heard about the single drone strike that killed an Afghanistan family, you could be forgiven for thinking that President Biden was simply continuing, or even increasing, our global drone war.
But the truth is exactly the opposite. In the same way that our withdrawal from Afghanistan is something to be ashamed of, the reality is that our invasion and occupation of Afghanistan was the criminal mistake. For instance, the warmongering media never cared about a botched 2017 airstrike in Mosul that killed 278 civilians. Thus if you believe Fox News, you probably think that Biden is the war criminal, not Trump.
While the news media focuses on that one drone strike under Biden that killed 10 civilians, they simply don't mention the 22,000-to-48,000 innocent civilians that we've killed by drones since 9/11.

Which brings us to that extremely rare piece of good news that isn't get reported.

Immediately after taking office, he set up a new system requiring White House approval for any strikes outside of active war zones (and later published Trump's loose rules that enabled so many civilian massacres). Now that the occupation of Afghanistan is over, that requirement applies almost everywhere, and it appears Biden is extremely reluctant to grant approval. Where Trump oversaw more than 1,600 air and artillery strikes in Iraq and Syria during his first 11 months in office, Airwars reports just four during Biden's term so far. Strikes in Somalia fell from roughly 75 last year to fewer than 10 this year, with no civilian casualties. And in Yemen, the annual total dropped from about 18 to maybe four, with fewer than 10 casualties of any kind. (Precise figures are unclear because some strikes are classified.)

That's a major shift — and this is probably the first you've heard of it.

I really hate Biden, but between this and getting out of Afghanistan, he is obviously the best president that we've had in a generation. Which is really sad.

...but isn't it still Trump who gets credit for revving up the withdrawal engine?

Trump's attitude toward war almost seemed to echo Robert E. Lee's: "It is well that war is so terrible, otherwise we should grow too fond of it." He inherited wars he had no more say in starting than anyone else, and fulfilled his predecessor's admonition against being "sanctimonious" about rights, liberties, Justice, and the international rule of law, as well as the "madman theory" endorsed and practiced by multiple predecessors as far back as Nixon (and somehow, it even seemed to work out on the Korean front!) - but he wasn't interested in the abyssal money-pit of perpetual war.

This may actually be a case where Ayn Rand had a point: The personal greed that defines Trump is a lesser, and blessedly-incompatible, evil compared to the locust-like "team spirit" that defines fascism, whether it's the American Deep State, Nazi Germany, the Aztecs, the Conquistadors, Ancient Sparta, you name it.

Of course, as I've said before, the lion's share of credit for the Afghanistan pullout (or is it just a drawdown?) goes only to the Inexorable Pimp-Hand of Reality...and a conveniently-timed (if LUDICROUS!) Deep-State decision to move Morgoth's feeding-grounds to China.

but if giving Trump credit for the withdrawal gets us to end these Forever Wars, then I'll give him whatever credit he wants. Including stuff he obviously had nothing to do with.
I'll do the same for Biden. And for now, by all indications, Biden is working to shut down this out-of-control war machine. So if you are interested in more peace, then give Biden credit...until he doesn't.

@gjohnsit I could give it to whoever's underneath it...but I'd need to know just what's really going on under there. This is all data, and I will take it...but there's too many stray threads.

As Chomsky's been saying for at least a couple years now, it's always been people "lighting a fire" underneath even the best administrations who really saw to it that good things happened, so maybe its time we scaled back giving credit in general to the Oval Office's quadrennial houseplants? It's not very democratic-spirited anyway.

@gjohnsit
that was operative under Trumps tenure prevented him exiting any conflicts in the ME, North Africa or Afghanistan that he had publicly attempted to accomplish. Israel was the ONE item that he and TPTB were in total agreement with mainly due to his son-in-law.

The only reason Biden was allowed to end the Afghanistan fiasco last summer (actually set up during Trump's time but prevented from being acted upon) was that there was a consensus by the Deep State to do it but they didn't want Trump to get any credit.

Biden is just a place holder. He can no longer function without the use of a teleprompter and his gaffes are increasing. Kamalla Harris is literally nothing but a 'goon'. I would like to know who is actually running the country because I know that neither of those people are capable.

In fact, that's why I believe they were put in these positions to start with. It looks to be a combo between the previous Obama WH people and the Clinton Machine - both of which have had long standing, shall we say even 'intimate', connections with the MICIMATT (Military-Industrial-Congressional-Intelligence-Media-Academia-Think-Tank Complex) that has taken complete control over the Halls of Government.

The thing to determine is where are they headed now. This cabal is wedded to American global hegemony and they are going to resist losing that with every devious trick in the book. That's where you should be looking. Those drones are not going to go to waste. They will need hundreds of times more if they wish to face off with China.

On to Biden since 1973

This is an enormous reason to be grateful and happy. I wish that I could believe that it is true.

Give me time. I'll overcome my suspicion.
