what are we doing to help fix the housing crisis today.
What about manufactured housing. We could figure out ways to make affordable housing cheaper.
People neeed housing they OWN. Because of the deference we give proprty owners, renters are never able to feel secure as renters. that they will have stability and privacy and safety.
But housing is importance for peoples sanity and safety. Why cant we devote our energy to building a standard inexpensive affordable small homes. A standard small affordable home.
We are about to have a huge housing disaster as the price of energy rises from exports of natural gas.
Where are we going to do to house all those people. Fast enough so they dont also lose all their stuff.
It will be a huge disaster the way we are going. Where will they live? What is the plan, besides making it so old housing gets torn down eliminating the rent stabilized units that can legally be rent stabilized.
Millions of Americans cannot afford "market rate" housing in the areas they have lived their entire lives. Uprooting people from where they have lived their whole lives will destroy great many peoples lives. They will be unable to see family and remain in touch with friends. They will lose their jobs and many wont find new ones.

Building more houses is not enough
I've written a number of essays about this.
The finance and developers have one solution and one solution alone: build more.
While building more homes would help, it wouldn't fix the problem.
What needs to be done is change the tax laws. People and institutions that buy homes on speculation, or just to rent them, need to be taxed at MUCH higher rates than primary home owners. And taxes should increase exponentially for foreign investors and for institutions buying in large quantities.
If that happened, then millions of homes would get put back onto the market, home prices will fall back to reasonable levels, and homelessness would decline.
You can bet your left buttock
that if you know that then congress knows that too, but instead of doing it they keep cutting taxes and passing money to them with quantitative easing and subsidies and stuff. And stop letting businesses buy back their stocks. Weird how everything just keeps getting worse huh? Oh yeah and they’d stop letting big pharma rip of the government with high drug prices. I’m sure you can add more things to the list.
Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.
